WDW food odyssey Apr 4-12 (with pix!)

That is pure poetry and shows a serious foodie doing the reviewing. Loving it and subscribing. Your boys are the cutest!

If you're interested in recreating Disney dishes at home come and visit our Disney recipe exchange. I got the recipe for the Honey Crunch Cake when I was there in Jan.

I'm not sure if I'm a "foodie", but I do love food and I do love to write! :) Heck, why not? Yes, I'm a foodie :) I just wish I had jotted my thoughts down during the meal...rather than trying to remember a week after the fact. :)

Thanks again everyone for your kind comments!

Joe

Friday was a day we had set aside for Typhoon Lagoon because the temperature was going to be high 80s...but since Ethan liked the WL pool so much and we would have to buy tickets to TL (>$100 even with discounts) we decided to use this as a day to relax.

We went to DTD around mid-morning for some last minute shopping. For lunch we decided to do Wolfgang Puck again. Unfortunately I didn't take any pics, but I had the rainbow roll (OK) and Sarah the spinach salad (spinach, radicchio, blue cheese, apples and caramelized pecans). The salad was fantastic, a multitude of disparate flavours that summed to more than its individual parts. There was the bitter radicchio, the strong blue cheese, the fruity apple, and the sweet pecans. Sarah rated it the best salad she had all week.

Ethan had the cheese pizza again. A word is in order - this is a great pizza. Crispy crust, fresh sauce, great cheese - why can't all cheese pizzas be like this?

Dinner was at Artist Point. We had a good dinner here back in 2005, when I had the smoky portobello soup (excellent!), cedar plank salmon (good) and a trio of coffee desserts (mmm!).

This time we shared the venison spring rolls (no pic, but looked like thin spring rolls) for starters. Sarah liked it, but I thought the filling was a little mushy and unappealing.

For the main course, I had the Pan-seared Scallops with fire-roasted Corn, Fava Beans, Caramelized Onions, Bacon, and Corn Nectar:

(Sorry about the flash!)

The scallops were fresh and well-seared, though the bacon and corn nectar tended to overpower the other ingredients.

Sarah had the Potato Chive Pot Stickers with edamame, spinach and soy vinaigrette:

The pot stickers were crunchy and Sarah, who LOVES potatoes, raved about them. But for $20, they should have been much better than the pot stickers or gyoza you can get at a Chinese or Japanese restaurant.

For dessert, we shared the Hazelnut Chocolate Torte with Blood Orange sauce, and Honey Lavendar Ice Cream. I forgot to take a picture until it was already half demolished, so apologies again. Sarah liked this better than the honey crunch cake from California Grill, but I thought it was too powdery in texture and lacked the sweet zing from the best desserts.

All in all, a mixed bag this time from Artist Point. Maybe I'm not a big fan of game, but I wouldn't order the venison spring rolls again.

Final day had arrived. We had a late return flight (8:15pm to Newark) so we toured MK again in the morning (had to get my Splash Mountain fix :)) and then had lunch at Crystal Palace. This, in my mind, is one of the best buffets on property, right up there with Boma. The vegetable fritatta, stir fried curry noodles, and ancho chile rubbed Atlantic salmon were great, and the chicken nuggets (on the kids' buffet) so good a fellow diner regretted only grabbing 3 (after eating them in line!). The pecan tart was very good, and the coconut flan a heavenly, buttery melt-in-your-mouth sensation that's worth the price of the buffet itself.

We didn't take any pictures of the food, but I leave you with 2 pictures of our boys, who look happy with the characters (from Pooh):

LOL--why do I get the feeling that he's about to do something he's not supposed to? (something in that look . . . . )

Great report--and GREAT pics of the kids (and Pooh!)

I agree with PP......that look.....:lmao:

Thanks for taking the time to share your reviews with us!:goodvibes

Great review. I'm half chinese myself and I think you are brave for trying the chinese restaurant there. I don't think I would've dared - I'm too picky. Your boys are super cute.

We have never been to Artist Point, and are staying at the WL in June. Is this place pretty kid friendly? Our kids will be 1 and 4. We plan to have an early dinner. I was just curious. Great Review by the way!!!

Thanks for everyone's comments!

We're planning another WDW trip at the end of the year and here are some of the restaurants/events we're thinking of:

California Grill (of course!)
Wolfgang Puck Cafe (yes!)
Yak & Yeti (1st time)
Chef Mickey's (1st time)
Boma
Hoop De Doo Revue (1st time)
Nine Dragons (if the revamp looks promising and is done by then)
Le Cellier (1st time for dinner, been many times for lunch)
The Wave (if reviews are positive)
Narcoossee's (1st time)
Flying Fish or bluezoo (1st time)

Like all Disney eateries (except V&A) Artist Point is very accommodating to kids. There were several families there with younger kids, so you won't be alone.

Hope this helps!
