WDW/DL ticket question

Okay, I don't know how many people would know the answer to this since it probably doesn't come up a whole lot.

I will be in WDW for a few days, then fly from Orlando to SNA and am going to DL for five days. I am buying a 10 day MYW ticket from WDW (expires 14 days from initial use). I will use 5 days at WDW and the other 5 at DL. I know that as long as I use the tickets within the 14 days I can use the same ticket for DL as well as WDW. So... my actual question is...

I can't imagine my 10 day ticket from WDW would allow me to have MM at DL but I thought I'd ask if somehow it was. I think I'm unbelieveably lucky to get to use the WDW tickets at DL so I am already beyond thrilled. I was just wondering....

TIA!

Good question.

I think it would end up *not* granting you MM, as each day you have to go exchange one day on the WDW ticket for a one-day ticket for DL/DCA. So since you'd never have a 3 day ticket in your hand, only one day tickets, that wouldn't yield access to MM.

If you're staying onsite, though, that would give you access to MM....

so you can use your used WDW ticket to upgrade or exchange into a DL ticket? Interesting.

That makes sense. Totally cool with me if we can't since it is such a great deal anyway but I thought I'd ask.

Well, yes. I read it first, I think on Mousesavers. Had never occurred to me before. Then I asked on the Disboards a few questions and this was confirmed. Since our flight was much cheaper from Orlando to SNA than from our hometown area, it is just as cheap to do a few days at WDW first. There are four of us traveling. Some have said it may be because WDW tickets are more expensive as to why they are exchangeable. I don't know but I'm just grateful for it. I haven't ever been to DL.

Not to upgrade.

If you have a non-expired WDW ticket with days remaining, you can take it to DL, hand it to the Cast Member at the turnstile. They will take you ticket, disappear for a few minutes, and return with your WDW ticket with one day removed and a 1 day ticket for DL. If the original was a PH, you will get a PH.

P.S OP, I am in agreement with bumbershoot on the MM since at no time will you have a 3 day DLR ticket.

Yes, that is what I was guessing. Makes good sense. We are booked at Hojo's and are excited about that but if a good deal comes out for DLH that would also be cool.

Thank for the quick help!

This exchange idea was new to me and is quite intriguing. We go to WDW frequently, but are headed to DLR this summer for a few days - this option could make a lot of sense to us! Anyone know of a location where I can get more on this? I have a number of questions - any details out there anywhere?

Anyone know anywhere I can get more info on this - I have a number of questions, but this concept of exchanging non-expiring tickets is a fascinating one for us!

I don't remember a "super thread" to direct you to, but if you search these boards you may find your answers. Or just ask them here. It's been done many times.

If you post your questions here, we will try to help you with the vast array of knowledge from the various members of the board. Don't worry about how many questions - post post post. :goodvibes

Disney Dreams explained it pretty plainly and thoroughly; not a whole lot more to say! :)

The OP is using a ticket that will still be within its 14 day expiration time. Otherwise, you have to have the no expiration option on the original WDW ticket. Give to CM, get one-day ticket to DL with one day knocked off the WDW ticket (which is given back), there ya go.

It doesn't work the other way (DLR ticket to WDW), and APs don't work at the different parks (unless the rumors come true and they create a multi-park AP, but YIKES at the cost of that!).

I've been trying to puzzle out the economics behind this DLR/WDW ticket question for quite a while. We live in Southern California, but plan to travel to Orlando soon. WDW tickets are expensive, especially on a per day basis for trips of 3 days or shorter. We're going for 2 or 3.

For WDW tickets, adding days 5 through 10 is practically free. It would be nice to use them back at home, but not terribly worthwhile if they are limited to the original ticket's 14 day time frame.

Unfortunately, adding the non-expiring option costs almost the same as buying a SoCal AP. To add to the confusion there are GAD vouchers involved.

If you're math averse, look away!

A WDW MYW 10-day non expiring park hopper is $504 plus tax. That's $425 plus tax upgrading with a GAD voucher.

A Disneyland Deluxe AP is $299; the SoCal AP is $219. Add a 3-day WDW (expiring) MYW hopper is another $271 plus tax. $411 total with SoCal AP after GAD discount.

It comes down to a trade-off between 7 or 8 days left for use at Disneyland with the benefit of no blackout dates but the worry that a policy change could make them invalid, vs. an AP that can't be used on Saturdays or most of the summer but will definitely get you through the gate the rest of the time.

How would you spend your money? Am I overlooking anything? Thanks!

Umm well you would be surprised. I went to WDW(one day) and Seaworld in Orlando spent a week there with family went to beach etc on other days. Turned around and hit Knotts Berry Farm with my brother the next week. Not DL but close enough. :lmao:

So anyway guess I can't help on your question but it does seem uncommon to be all over the country so much huh?.

Thought I would chime in on being excited to use my WDW tix at DLR next month! We are WDW frequent visitors and usually get a ticket as part of our stay on-site as part of a package discount or promotion. However, on occassion we make a trip to Orlando and stay offsite and only go to the parks for a couple of days (for spring training trips, dh's conferences, etc.) - for this type of trip - we find it way more financially beneficial to purchase 10 day non-expiring tickets that we use only at times when we go for 1 - 3 days for the whole trip.

So, We currently have a couple/few days left on non-expiring non-hopping tickets AND brand new 10 day non-expiring hopping tickets. We will be going to DLR for 3 days in April...The first two will be using the non-hopping tickets as we plan to stay in one park each day. The last day we will be using the first day of our hopping tickets so we can do the 'best of' both parks for our last day.

Even with the non-expiring option - I figure these tickets to be about $25 - $35 per visit (the new ones have water parks and more option - so 10 more water park visits - which brings the cost down to a bit less than $25 per visit). A HUGE DEAL and I was thrilled to learn that we can use them for this trip!

Anyone? 2 or 3 days parking at WDW, then back home to Southern California and hope to visit several times over the next year. 10 day non-expiring WDW tix, or full price 2 or 3 day WDW tix plus Disneyland Resort AP? Which makes the most sense? Thanks!
