WDW/DL comparisons

Did anyone mention the NEW and IMPROVED space mountain?

I think the old Disneyland one was better than the one at MK, and this one is beyond comparison. so smooth.

Wow! You guys have me bouncing off the walls I'm so excited now. I really wondered what could be so different and now I can't wait! It sounds really magical. My kids and DH and I are looking forward to a unique trip and it sounds like maybe not quit so demanding For all you scrapbookers, you'll appreciate that I'm looking for different photo ops than we just had in WDW and it sounds like we'll find them Thank you so much. Would love to keep getting ideas! Thanks.

They didn't set out to build a "worse" on at the MK. First, the one in Florida cannot have two drops because of the water table.

they could still at least have had the boats go by a restaurant.....it adds so much to the atmosphere of the ride..
they put it back in the Paris PotC (there is a restaurant that the boats go by).
I can't remember there being one in Tokyo, but i was there 21 years ago, so it's hard to remember.

Has the Tokyo park been there for 21 years??? I thought it was recent than that.

Tokyo Disneyland opened about 22 years ago.
We were there the first year it was open, but I don't know how close to when it opened.
I know exactly when i was there since i was pregnant with my 21 year old daughter at the time (we had to travel around the world when i was 4 months to 8 months pregnant).
My daughter was born in 1984, so i know the park was inaugurated before that.

So it's about 22 years old. I'll check it.

Tokyo DisneySea on the other hand is very recent. Only a few years old.

One difference I noticed was that at DL, Belle wears her beautiful yellow gown, as opposed to WDW, where she's always in her blue and white aproned dress. And all the princess's "handlers" are male courtly-types (I don't know their exact titles).

well clearly i am old.....i went there when i was expecting my now 21 year old daughter....
and yes, it seems like just yesterday......kinda scary how fast time really does fly.....

Am I getting the correct impression that characters are more prevalent and more interactive in DL than WDW?
Any hints?

I read through most of the replies, nodding my head. I just have to repeat my favorite differences:

DEFINITELY Storybook Land Canal Boats- so darling. Casey Jr train circles this attractions.

Alice in Wonderland- a dark ride, like Snow White, but more elaborate.

Totally the Matterhorn and that whole area surrounding it (gives Fantasyland a more Alpine feel)

Indiana Jones

New Orleans Square- the rides like Pirates, the buildings, the shops, the restaurants (I like French Market myself). Lends a terrific atmosphere to the park.

The dinosaur diorama on the train - definitely ride the train between Tomorrowland and Main St for a unique Disneyland experience!

Toontown overall is just much more elaborately themed than WDW- you will enjoy it!

the It's a Small World facade is wonderful- nothing like WDW! Inside the ride is pretty much the same.

There is a back way between Fantasyland and Frontierland that can be nice and relaxing- there are usually some animals back there to look at or pet and just lends a nice atmosphere to the area. There used to be a fantastic BBQ restaurant back there, but I don't think it's there anymore.

I'm sure Mike and Sulley are around because of the new Monsters Inc ride in DCA.

The Bugs Life area is really cute! Little ones like it a lot. My 3 year old loved it when we went last time.

I just love all the detailing in Fantasyland- it's so beautiful to me compared to the MK one. Dumbo specifically is so nice- fountains, pretty lighting....I just love Fantasyland at DL, even though it gets soooo jam packed!

I totally agree with everything that you pointed out! They are all the reasons why I love DL more than any other park that I have been too, and I have been to all of them in the world except the new Hong Kong Disneyland. Everytime I go to a foreign one, it makes me miss DL even more. It has things that are truly unique and special!!

Well Pirates was never intended to be built at all in WDW so they may have had limited space to work with? I don't know.

The only other place at WDW which has something similar to the Blue Bayou is the Mexico pavilion at EPCOT, a very nice view of the beginning of that boat ride. I still love the atmosphere in there.

DL is either 13 or 16 minutes (according to 1997 and 2001 Birnbaum guides)
WDW is listed as 10 minutes.

in the posts about the refurbishment of pirates at DL and WDW, people referred to the DL version as 15 minutes long, and the WDW version as 7 minutes long...

having ridden the WDW version about 300 times, 7 minutes sounds about right...

ok....so in most things we enjoyed the DL version more than the MK version, however that's not true for Splash Mountain. I don't know which one was built first, but my guess is that the one in DL was built first, since it's not as good. The technology seems just a bit older and the ride just a bit rougher.
But it's still a great ride.
And the line was longer than even the worst line ever at the MK. Even the FP line was long.

As I mentioned before, the use of FPs is an absolute must on rides like Indiana Jones and Splash Mountain.

I'm trying to remember Tom Sawyers Island to make the comparison, but i can't remember it. Maybe someone else does.

Oh no, is this true on most rides--maybe because of the difference in size of the two parks????

Splash Mountain is much better at Disneyland. I think it is longer (but not positive). There are a lot more characters and it just seems more fun and colorful at DL.

DL also has the Davy Crocket Explorer Canoes (which I love). The go around the Rivers of America. I think it is one of those rides that people just don't bother with, but I love to get out there and paddle around. It is both relaxing and a workout (for your arms). I try to ride it twice in a row so I can switch sides and workout the other arm.

The Winnie the Pooh ride is different at DL and MK too.

Aladdin show at DCA is a do not miss. Its amazing
Block Party is fun and the best parade ever is the Main street Electrical parade!
Get free tortillas at the tortilla place at DCA!

Splash is much better at WDW, Pirates better at DL. All are wonderful though
