WDW/DCL vacation - August vs. October?

This will be our 3rd WDW/DCL vacation.

In 2000, we spent 10 glorious days at all the WDW parks. We went in early Nov., and although crowds were fairly big, they were managable. We had a wonderful time. Kids were out of school for 9 days.

In Oct. 2001, we spent 4 days at WDW and then took the 7 day Magic cruise.
Again, it was a wonderful, unforgettable time. Crowds at WDW were smaller and the weather was as good or a bit better than the previous year. Kids were out of school for 9 days again.

Our plan this year is to go to WDW for 4 days, then take the Western Magic cruise. My only dillemma is that both kids are starting at new schools this year, so I am more hesitant to take them out of school for 2 full weeks!

So my questions are:

Is WDW WAY more crowded in August than in October? Our day at Epcot is very important to us all and I don't want it ruined by a mob! Not to mention just the general crowds all over WDW...

What are the seas like, Aug. compared to Oct.? Since only so many people can fit on the ship, and in fact we had a full ship last time, I don't see passenger capacity as a problem. But is it "more so" hurricane season??

Any other factors you think I should consider??

ANY feedback is great! THANKS !!!

In the last year we've been to the parks in July and February. We absolutely melted in July! It was awful. We'll never go in the summertime again! August would be just as bad. We loved February... it was actually cold enough to make sweatshirts appropriate, but we'd rather have to wear sweatshirts than go through the miserable heat and humidity of summertime again. I suspect October would be a perfect medium between these two extremes. Plus, that is a low time of year for crowds.

We don't mind the heat, but the crowds we can't stand... For that reason, Oct. is certainly better. I hate waiting in line so long at Typhoon Lagoon such that you are completely dried off after every ride! :)

What about the seas in Aug.? Any different really, from Oct.?

HI Beano

The very first time I went to WDW was in August. UCK.....I would never do it again.

The crowds were rediculous. People were miserable, irritable, and stinky. The good rides had waitlines of 90 minutes or more. I can remember being in line for Space Mountain and thinking to myself, "NEVER AGAIN".

The heat was horrible as well, but I can tolerate heat pretty well. My poor father looked like he was gonna have a heat stroke. We ended up staying at the pools for most of the trip.

well I can't help you with the question about the seas. But going to the parks in the summer isn't so bad as people make it out to be. Our first two trips were June, a mini trip in December and this year in July. Why? Because I'm a teacher, and we can't take a vacation during the school year unless we want it unpaid. If you choose summer just make sure you have tons of sunscreen and a couple of those mister fans, and take afternoon breaks to hit the pool.
