We have been to WDW Florida many many times and were not going to bother with Universal and DL as we thought they would be the same but have been assured that they are very different.I would love to hear all your opinions on the differences and the highs and lows :thumbsup2

DL has a lot more rides than the MK and even the rides with the same name are a little different. Going to DL and the MK is not the same. It is similar but imparts a different feel. Of course WDW has 3 other parks and DL just has DCA which is an okay park with some good stuff in it.
As far as Universal goes. Universal Florida was designed and built as a theme park with a studios attached. Universal Hollywood was a huge studio that added a theme park. If you like old movies and want to see some history go to Uni Hollywood. Even though alot of the older stuff has beed removed it is still a great studio to visit.

Here are a couple of threads (with lots of links) where dozens of knowledgable Diser's have offered opinions:

Virtually everyone who posts here on the DLR Dis will tell you that DLR is very different from WDW & is most definitely worth a visit.

I personally believe it's a better Disney Destination than WDW for a variety of reasons...many of these reasons are discussed in the above links.

Have a great time reading about & considering a visit to Walt's Park. :thumbsup2

They are different, in a similar way. Just because you have seen WDW, does not mean you have seen / experienced Disneyland.

You have to compare DL to MK, not WDW. Disneyland has a charm to it that the Magic Kingdom does not. Some say it's because it had Walt's finishing touch, others say it's because it's the original. I don't know the reason, but I know it's true. There's just something special about it.

- WDW is 4 parks, 2 waterparks, and DtD.
- DLR is Disneyland, DCA, and DtD.

- WDW is 4 main parks.
- Most people would agree Disneyland is the main park and then there is also DCA.

The castle's are different, there are rides DL has that don't exist at MK (ex: Matterhorn), there are rides that are similar, but different (ex: Pirates), and there are rides that are exactly the same. We have New Orleans Square, but we don't have Liberty Square. Like I said, the same, but different.

There is sooo much more, but in short:
If your family truly is made up of Disney fans, and you have never been to Disneyland, you must visit... at least once.

If you have specific questions, post and we will do our best to help.

just my personal opinion ;)

i have been to WDW more total days (almost twice as many) than I have been to DL, but I actually go to Disneyland more...

Disneyland is my favorite park (i like DCA the second least) but that is because every inch feels like a piece of history...I never feel more complete than walking through the park with the people I love (my happy place)

WDW is more *fun* there is more to do, it is more immersive, and well, its a world into itself :)

I will always choose DLR hands down over WDW though

We prefer DL over WDW hands down. We will probably never go back to WDW. DD was 5 when we did WDW and told us she only wanted to do DL in the future.
As PP said, she feels "immersed" at WDW. I actually feel more "immersed at DL. We can stay so close that we do not have to take a bus, monorail or boat to get from the hotel to any park. The common rides between WDW and DL are so much better than the original. I think some of this in part is due to the weather. You enter IASW outside and see the beautiful facade. New Orleans Square is so much cooler to look through than Liberty square. And the fact you walk through the front door of Haunted Mansion instead of the garage or whatever that is at WDW is just the beginning.
Plus I have never stayed at a hotel at DL (good neighbor or Disney) that had the furniture chained down like it was at the AllStar Movies!

Don't compare the two, yes they are different but both awesome!
I do prefer Disneyland but that's because I am a west cost girl.
