WDW Commando Club

Wow, apparently I am a commando! I always just considered myself a detailed planner LOL. As soon as we start planning a trip, I pull out my travel binder and go to town planning haha. When DH tries to say something about it, I just tell him that all my planning has always given us great trips. Cause he doesn't think of ANYthing that needs to be considered.

:welcome: You are member #133. I see your trip is coming quick, what do you have planned:confused3

Checked out of WL yesterday. :sad2: Managed to get the whole family to be commandos for a large part of the trip! Although I ended up getting pretty sick on day #3, which put a real damper on our Epcot/Studios day... Now we're outside of Jacksonville for the rest of the week and it is cold!!!

When I get home this weekend, I'll start my trip report and dining report. We had some great meals! :thumbsup2

Glad you got everyone to work together, can't wait to hear about your trip:goodvibes

Well it's official, ticker is up for August trip:cool1::banana::woohoo::yay::dancer:party:

:yay: Love having a trip in the works. DH and I are going in May for our 15th anniversary and then I just booked a trip this week to do the half marathon next January. :cheer2: It will be 4th half marathon but my first Disney race. And yeah, I'm doing lots of research besides training.

I'm sure you will have alot of good stuff planned for your anniversary:cool1:. I know jmm 476 was just at WDW during the half marathon.

Well it looks like the August trip I'm going to have like 4hrs down time everyday:scared1: I've been there in August and know the afternoon is not a good time to tour the parks:eek:

Since I know we can cover everthing in 3 1/2 - 4days, and there is nothing really going on (no holiday or special events) I'm going to hit the morning EMH and stay in that park till noon, go back to resort till 4, hope to get ADR's for 5pm, and tour whatever park has the EMH's that night:cool1:

This is not my normal kind of planning, but I don't want to bore my family, I know for a fact I can get everything done, with plenty of time leftover:goodvibes Most likely will even have a day or two to do Seaworld & water parks:confused3

Last August when we were there (last 2 weeks), it was SO HOT, that we became strictly night commandos. We slept in, yes, slept in! Then we hit the pool until about 3 pm when the daily thunderstorm rolled in, then changed our clothes and hit the parks. Always hit the parks with the Evening EMH's, often staying out until 2 or 3 am. It was terrific and we will do this again when we go in August. Honestly, after the fireworks, most people leave and it is easy on/easy off for all of the rides/shows. And the heat was manageable, although one night at MK it was still 90 degrees at 10 pm.

That's pretty much going to be the plan:thumbsup2 Except I have to add the mornings, If anyone is following my TR I have found that I've stumbled upon many good things in the a.m.:cool1:

Barb, when will you be there in August:confused3, so far 3 Commandos will be there at the same time, we got to set up a meet:confused3:goodvibes

I got most of my ADR's ready to go, just have to wait like another month before I can put them in. Well this is at least what I'm hoping for:confused3

-Whispering Canyon Cafe (Dinner around 5)
-1900 Park Fare (Breakfast around 8)
- Tappen Edo (Dinner around 5)
- Le Celliar ( Lunch around 1:30)
- Ohana ( Dinner around 5)

I have 1 more I have to think about where we should go (still have some time)

Oh and our 1 non Disney - T-Rex Cafe (son would really be mad if we didn't go there, it's his favorite:love:)

I was just checking out the plans they have for Fantasyland, and I must say I can't wait till it's done:goodvibes

Along with the other projects they are working on (New Resort, Downtown Disney) The next few years look quite promising to keep us on our Commando toes, to see and visit all the new attractions:goodvibes

We did commando - 4 parks in one day!! Would not recommend it for the first time visitor. We take regular vacations as we are DVC members so we just had to try it one time. Start with early entry park other than MK and finish at MK with the fireworks.

travel light!!

:welcome: You are member #134. I totally agree 4 Parks in one day, is not for the 1st timer, you have to know the lay out of the land down before trying to do it:eek: But doing all 4 in one day does give you a great feeling:goodvibes

Well, I'm hopping on this wagon pretty late (44 pages late!). My family would be described as a "Commando Family." We don't have 1 commando that drags everyone else along... all 4 of us (Me 32, DH 32, DD 7, DD 5) get up early and go, go, go! The only one who slows us down is DD 5 who chooses the most inopportune moments to have to go to the bathroom. We all get annoyed with her, and I'm usually the designated "bathroom runner" to get her there and back in record time.

Here are my tips (I haven't read all 44 pages, so I apologize if these are duplicates).

1. Disney in January is the best way to commando! You don't get slowed down by heat or sun! You can accomplish way more when you're cold, because you walk faster to stay warm! Also, we always go in January (leaving in 2 days, actually!!), and we can walk on most all the rides with no lines, no waiting! This means we can frequently ride something 3 or 4 times in a row without waiting more than a few minutes. :woohoo:

2. I don't carry binders, papers, or laminated cards (I like to travel light, except for my camera backpack). I create a note in my iPhone for each day of our vacation. I write a list of everything we want to do and in what order for that day. I include any dining reservations or show times. If something changes, I can quickly edit my note. I've got my Disney apps handy as well for wait times and such. When that day is over, I bump the next day's note up to the top of my note list.

Ok... I paused my commando packing and last minute planning in order to write this. Gotta get back to the suitcases!

Nice to meet you all!!!! :wave2:
