WDW Commando Club

My sons and I will be there August 23rd - August 28th.

The 2 weeks I'm looking at in August are

Aug 7-13 in a blackout no free dining
Aug 21-27 offers free dining

I have to get a couple of prices to compare, but from what I priced so far I would save almost $700 if I went 21-27, I have 3 weeks before vacations are due at work:confused3

Would you believe my parents (who don't believe in having schedules on vacation) called me last night to ask if we had dinner reservations for every night at Disney (we leave a week from tomorrow)?! I reminded them that I was told to only book one dinner (on DHs birthday) and they wanted to "wing it" the rest of the time.

Lucky for me, the crowds must be pretty small during our stay, because I was able to book 2 more dinners around our crazy park hopping schedule (that no one else in the family knows about :lmao:).

I scored a 9:20 reservation at Artist Point and a 4:00 reservation at Rose and Crown. I had my pick of times and restaurants, but chose the off times to maximize time in the parks. Also Mom and DH are extremely picky eaters... sure hope they find something on the menu at these places! :scared1:

Nice Score, I've never been to either, I remember checking out the menu for Artist Point, I think they had Buffalo Steak that I would have tried, but I got cheap since it was Sig Dining (I'm really tight with the Sit Down Dinners:lmao:) You got to let me know how it was:confused3

I'd go for Aug 21-27. $700 buys a lot of souvenirs :lmao:

One of these days I will have to try the Autotrain. it seems like a fun way to travel.

It gets a mixed reaction, you will either Love it or Hate it:confused3 The way I look at it you arrive in the early morning and you are relaxed and ready to go when you get to WDW, We have done the drive down a couple of times, my back was killing me and all I wanted to do was go to sleep (most of the 1st day wasted:scared1:) Even if you fly down your beat when you get there:confused3

Although the Autotrain dosn't really save anytime or money, it gives me my sanity and rest:goodvibes When I arrive at WDW I don't want to miss a beat:cool1: And being well rested really helps you get through a long day of touring the parks:goodvibes

HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE:cool1: Hope this is the year ALL your dreams come true:goodvibes

One of these days I will have to try the Autotrain. it seems like a fun way to travel.

We did the Auto-Train for the first time in October one-way down to Florida. We had a blast! Very relaxing and we had our mini-van and were on I-4 by 9 am. If we did a round trip, it would cost the same as airfare now for our family of 4. We only got coach seats as a room would have been too expensive for us. We will do this again.

I know your trip is almost here:cool1: If you have any ?'s send me a PM, i'd be glad to help you out if I can:goodvibes

Yeah - how do I get my non-commando family to be commando's with me for 4 days?! :lmao:

We should be all good though, I made a resolution this year to just go with the flow. We'll see how long that lasts.

We leave Friday afternoon - I can't wait!!!

It is so funny that I found this thread! I'm a commando and didn't even know it! Our first family trip to Disney was in October 2009, me, hubby, and 5 yr old. I had a note card (run through the printer mind you) with each day labeled, park labeled. Transporation method we were taking, and times...all rides to be ridden (and in order to be ridden) along with ride durations! And all eating ressies and conf #'s! Those note cards were 5x7 and packed front and back with info and schedules! I LOVE IT! We made a trip last March - no commando on it, we took our 2 1/2 yr old for the first time. It's hard to commando with that age, but we are going back this March with both boys and they're just gonna suck it up because mommy has things to do! I love this thread! And - I'm glad to know that I'm not C-R-A-Z-Y!

I'm joining this group. My 2 previous trips with full on commando style and even though it's been 10 years I know this trip will be too. I have been reading all the disney boards since we booked our trip, I already have touringplans.com and the app on my cell.

I have 3 smaller kids though so we plan to commando from RD to lunch then go back to resort then come back for more full on fun. Odds are we won't have hoppers ( base tickets right now) so for me that means even more planning to be sure we do everything!!

I stopped in to AAA today to get some prices for our August trip, I have a choice of 2 different weeks (I got to see what week is OKed at work:confused3) but there is a $400 difference in them:scared1:

I'm too late for the free DP since you had to be booked by Dec 20:confused3, but now WDW is offering Kids stay & play free deal:banana: I would have to stay in a preferred room, but would save $400, so I'll know for sure before the end of Jan what week I can get off, and book one of the weeks in August:cool1: I got to get it booked quick 180 days out is in Feb:rolleyes1
