WDW CM - restaurant servers question

I have been reading various threads about tipping. I have waited tables and when I did, we were paid $2.14/hr plus tips. We were taxed on an 8%min, meaning the gov't assumed we'd make at least 8% in tips, no matter what we reported, even if it was less, i.e. stiffed on a table will bring your % of tips down. You know some people don't report everything they make in cash. ;) So my question for you is this: Is it that way in WDW, or do you make more per hour w/all tips pooled and divided between all servers? Overtipping is always accepted, but undertipping is not nice. I've read on one thread that 10-15% for buffet servers was standard, but if they are only making the lower hourly wage + tips, I want to be sure and take care of them too. Please tell me how it works in Mouseland, I don't want to be the person to ruin someone's night w/a rotten tip.:confused3

Thanks!

Thanks Dan. I know there are CM's who read the boards, I've seen posts from FGIT from BBB. I would really love to hear from someone who actually works there and can set me straight.:goodvibes

When I was waiting tables, nothing would ruin my night faster than getting a rotten tip from a table that I'd worked my tail off for.

That said, if you're a restaurant server/worker, you know I'm coming, and soon, and you don't want to be the one who gets a bad tip b/c someone isnt' completely informed on the way things are run there. Help me out, help us all out. No one wants to be the hot topic of conversation at the bar after work when you're swapping stories about the tables you've had that day. I know it happens, I've been there griping to my friends about that 4 top who stiffed me after the great services I gave them.

Come on, guys, I know you're here, just find me!! And give me the real 411!;)

I'm moving this one over to the Restaurants Board where I've seen very similar posts addressed very well before!

Thanks,

Knox

this is a topic that comes up often over on the restaurants board... The CMs that work as servers, get paid the 2.14(it think it is actually 3.something, someone will no doubt know) plus tips, etc.

Well, I know in NH, we get paid 2.38 an hour. And I don't know what the pay rate is in FL or at Disney, but we tip everyone like this...

If it was good service, we tip 20% flat rate, excellent service gets 25%. I NEVER tip less than 15% even when getting poor service because you don't know what that person has been through that day and I tend to take into account how busy they are and the temperments of their other tables...

I am a waitress myself and know that when you're having a bad day and you've got customers from HELL, a great tip from a nice table can really make your day!

the minimum wage for tipped positions in FL is $3.77. WDW servers are paid just a bit (literally) more than that, i think $3.80-something (i'd have to look it up).

ETA: okay, looked it up. I believe the exact pay rate to $3.80 on the button with guaranteed annual increases of $.15/hr (or more if the minimum wage is higher). the rate is higher if you were hired prior to 1988.

Thanks for the info. I'd hate to be the one to ruin someone's day!:goodvibes

Looks like we'll be tipping more than our usual 20% based on this information.
