WDW christmas parade overkill

So they didn't say anything wrong, they just didn't say what you wanted them to say in the allotted time frame. They still said nothing incorrect.

OT - I have a friend who loves to play devils advocate no matter how ridiculous his argument is.

In Lawyer speak? Nope. In Yeti speak....yes. They've had 5 years to figure this out. They have not. People are about to catch a "train". They might want to get this figured out, once and for all.

I think the fact that she was in the same outfit hopping from park to park talking about what headliners you can ALSO ride with the new FP+ is a big fat VISUAL misrepresentation, if nothing else.

I'm starting to realize that I MAY have not be super clear: I loved getting to see the parks! It got us pumped for the trip were taking that's right around the corner. However, I didn't like that they had more musical acts than parade and they were advertising so heavily.

Oh, I totally agree.:thumbsup2 Pictures speak louder than words, especially when the pictures talk. ;) I think it would have been much classier had they had Ron Burgundy in the background using "air quotes"...

It made me that more excited especially since I will be there in 3 more days!!!:banana:

Yes, the "Disney commercials" during the coverage of the parade were at an all time obnoxious level this year. But we enjoyed the parade, emcees, and performers.

Somewhere in Burbank a junior executive is reading this all and laughing hysterically.

Then the junior executive doesn't "get it". It's not about fashion advice. It's about misleading people on a pretty important operational issue with FP+.

The singing performances were the part we struggled through during the program.

Haha, totally agree. DW likes Demi Lovato, and she was pretty good I thought.

The rest I would have rather seen commercials.

You just have to accept that fact that if Disney is going to go through all this crap for filming the parade, they're going to milk it for every bit of promotion that they can.

Personally, the only thing that made me think "overkill" was the Teen Beach Movie part. I said to my wife, "They chose to promote this on Christmas? What the heck does the beach have to do with Christmas. There are people skiing and throwing snowballs in the parade, then this group of teenagers with beach balls?" She just said it was like a really bad rip off of Grease.

I didn't catch this years WDW parade on TV but posts here make it sound similar to the Macy's Thanksgiving parade TC coverage. Kept waiting to see floats as in prior years for decades. Nope, mostly just stage acts and marketing ploys. Once in awhile they'd show a float for a few seconds then back to the main stage acts.

That wasn't 15 seconds. Actually is was closer to 3 minutes straight before someone wasn't saying something about FP+. Samantha could have at least changed outfits between parks. It would have made it more believable. Or maybe she can just afford a lot of yellow dresses. :confused3 I don't know.

It was misleading, if nothing else. In that same segment they showed FP+ for FOTLK that is going to be closed for the next half year, the Yeti actually working, park hopping with FP+, being able to do it "from home" (but no mention of having to stay onsite), you can change it on the fly, blah blah blah. No mention of not being able to book the headliners in 50% of their parks or that you are limited to a finite number of rides per day per park (whatever that ends up being). And then there was the "50" mph Mine Train. :lmao:

I was made fully aware that I can bling my band out 7 which ways from Sunday more than once. DOOM brought it up earlier....there should have at least been some small print or an asterisk or something.

I find it funny that Disney couldn't even be straight up about what this thing is going to be while being on one of the biggest stages of the year. I'm sure it's because even they have no idea now. If this was going as smoothly as "half" the people here report then this would be in full effect already. You have "half" the Disney population that haven't even had an opportunity to play their Reindeer games yet (unless you count AK....the least attended park at WDW). I did find out it's coming in 2014...really? Without having tested half of their audience? It sure sounds "magical".

The only thing that could have made it better would have been if NPH was wearing a purple MB. The end all be all....

Wow! You guys all complain about how stupid and uninformed people are for not using fast pass and and wonder why Disney doesn't do more to educate people and then complain when Disney puts out information about the fast passes. :confused3

What was factually inaccurate about what they said about FP+? While my memory is perfect, I don't remember them saying anything that wasn't true. You are correct, however, the perception colors everything.

So they didn't say anything wrong, they just didn't say what you wanted them to say in the allotted time frame. They still said nothing incorrect.

First off let me say I LOVED the parade, NPH's number in the beginning was fantastic, and I did not care about the ads. It does make me want to go back.

But I have to agree with others, the FP+ stuff was completely misleading for what is going on in their parks NOW. They made it seem so seamless, getting to ride all these rides, and it made it seem like your band could make park hopping a breeze, NONE of which is true RIGHT NOW. And I think NPH saying his kids got to ride Peter Pan over and over again felt like a slap to all of us who can no longer do that with the tiering and such.

I want to be able to say to my kid, let's do it again too, and we used to be able to do that with the FP- system.

And yes we did test it, but with no tiering and double dipping. Testing it that way was great. With the current parameters, I dont like it at all.

The misleading things aside... I was just disappointed that there was so little of the actual parade and so many commercials within the program. This was more like something that belonged on Travel Channel vs an "entertainment"'program. When there's two hours available they should be able to do a mini-Macy's Day parade like coverage and show 5 minutes or so solid of floats and things and then do the musical numbers and commercial things. It just felt like even using the word "parade" was misleading.

We were just there in November and go annually and watch all the Disney park related shows we can find. But on Christmas Day with a show advertised as the Disney Christmas Parade - you should actually see more parade than vacation club/adventures/etc advertising.

I must agree with this. While I didn't mind the adds and enjoyed the show, for a two hour parade show there could have been a lot more parade. Maybe they should change the name to Disney's Christmas Day Party & Parade.

It was pretty much what I expected. They are going to give a positive spin to all their products. That's par for the course with any business.

I wasn't too insulted by the anything. As for the Beach movie inclusion, I kind of tuned it out. Disney Channel stars aren't geared for me. Also it looked like they were doing music from the movie. What a pity. They could have done Christmas island or Mele Kalikimaka.

As for what beaches has to do with Xmas, I didn't see snow until I was into my 30's. But I have seen Christmas Boat parades out on the intercoastals here in Florida. And Christmas celebrations out on the Beach. Some of us celebrate Christmas differently due to our climates.

I was happy to see Samantha Brown and Darth Vadar. I mostly channel surfed between that and A Christmas Story.:thumbsup2

I agree with you! I think we all know that it's more one long commercial for Disney than a TV special... at least for the last years...

But it would indeed be great to see more of the parade.

And please, I hope Neil Patrick Harris won't be back next year. Don't get me wrong : his opening number was great but the rest was not a great host job... He doesn't seem very happy to be there.

If they showed more of the parade you might not want to go see it in person ;)
