WDW Changes Over The Years

I haven't been to WDW in about ten years and one thing I've noticed while planning my next trip is the changes that have taken place. Some of them make me a little sad. What attractions are closed that you wish were back? For me, it is definitely Mr. Toad's Wild Ride. What other changes have occurred that you can recall?

Carousel of Progress only being open seasonally.
Alien Encounter's demise.
World of Motion's demise.
Horizon's demise.
Journey Into Imagination's changes.
Universe of Energy's changes.

That's all I can think of for now.
:(

I have to admit, I thought poor old Mr. Toad was pretty boring. Sorry! :earseek:

I really can't think of anything that is gone that I really miss too much. Maybe Horizons, but it wasn't one of my real favorites of anything.

I do sort of miss the original Tiki Room, though. I loved it, and I'm not crazy about the updated version.

Mr. Toad's wasn't my favourite or anything but it was one of those rides that was familiar and I immediately would think of it when someone mentioned WDW.

And remind me again on what Horizons was?

Ali

I remember Horizons now! That was where you got to choose your own ending! That was great. I can't believe that got rid of that.

I also remember an attraction at MGM that highlighted all the old tv shows like I Love Lucy. Audience members were chosen from the pre-show lineup to participate in the re-creation of episodes.
Does MGM still have something like that? I really enjoyed it and was wondering why and when it was taken away? Does anyone remember what it was called?

I also remember when Mickey's Toontown Fair was Mickey's Birthday land. I haven't been there since it was changed. Are there any similarities? I really enjoyed Birthday Land.

I never saw the original Tiki birds and I wish I had. My DH is really sad about Alien Encounter. It was his favorite. I never saw it either-too scary. Didn't I mention what I big baby I was in another thread? :D

Yup, Test Track is in the building that was previously the World of Motion. I loved that ride! It was similar to SE, as I recall, with animatronics and moving cars.

I was one of the strange people who loved Mr. Toad. I was so sad when I found out he was gone. I can remember as a young child being run over by the train at the end. It was one of my first memories from DisneyLand and later at Disney World.

I also loved the Submarine! When I was a child, and only once, there were real live people dressed as mermaids swimming around the sub. It was so neat!

Also as a child I got to see Walt Disney. He was greeting people in DisneyLand and I remember thinking it would be neat to be his child! That same trip we got to see the Osmonds singing "Side by Side". It was before they were well known.

That Alien Encounter can go away and never come back! LOL! I went in it last year for the first time and my imagination took over and I was screaming and was the first person out of the theater!
DH was waiting outside the exit with out little one and he laughed at the tears streaming down my face!

I miss Horizons and also the ride that was replaced by Buzz Lightyear (I can't remember the name of it!). That was the first ride I ever rode at WDW, so it's always held a special place in my heart. :)

I actually miss the original 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea!!!

I miss 20,000 Leagues, too. I always tried to figure out if we were really all the way underwater.
DH says ride that Buzz replaced was sponsered by TWA, if that helps. Can't remember name.

One thing that is new in the last 10 years that you will definitely enjoy is the FASTPASS system. Use it as much as you can.

I really miss discover island and river country....I also liked the toy story parade at mgm...

OMG......I completely forgot about that!!! I think it was called Super Star Television. DH was once picked to be in a scene from Cheers...and got hit by a pie!
