wdw 2014 prices

I've just looked at prices for BC/YC for 2014 and they seem to be £800 or so more expensive than they were this year! Same dates, number of people etc. Does anyone know if they are likely to come down closer to the time going from previous years or are they likely to remain at these prices? Do they normally go up almost a £1000 per year? Seems crazy to jump so much?

We booked a little while ago for October 2014, OKW with free dining, came in at a little less than we paid in Feb 2012, just got to sort flights now.

Our prices jumped £1000 for 2 of us for next year. Same resort. But the difference has been identified: In past years they used to stack a resort discount on top of the FD offer. next year's prices only have a few resorts that offer discounts and ours is not one of them. I got 20% off last year. In fact, I posted a little while ago when this topic was up on here, that OKW was only £120 more than POFQ for our dates!

Thanks for the replies guys . I thought I might be doing something wrong but that was just wishful thinking . Normally stay BC/YC but need 2 rooms next year and it's crazy how each room costs £1000 more than this year! Like the look of SSR and it's much more affordable but have never stayed there and so bit worried we will miss our usual spot (especially walking into epcot at night). Don't seem to be able to get price for beach club villas atm Have any of you booked online through the US site lately? Everytime I try to go there it kicks me back to UK site for prices!

Disney have not hidden the fact they wanted to increase prices and remove free dining, well free dining is still part of their offering but they have included it in the rates they charge.

Our rates for 21 nights in Aug in a studio at OKW with free DDP have risen from £1,680 in 2009 to last year we paid £2,478, this year they wanted around £2,940 and neaxt year risen to £3,360, exactly doubled from 2009 to 2014. Offsite for us again now, it was good while it lasted but those rates are too much for me. Its also not just the rates, its the massive increase in food prices, which means higher tips on DDP, we can almost get a meal offsite for what we pay in tips, appetisers, etc. a pint of beer with a meal onsite costs around $6(plus 18% tip), compared to around $2 offsite.

Do you have any recommendations for off-site for non-drivers? We are travelling with another couple so it would be 5 adults (1 of which is actually 16yrs) and 1 child. I think I'd prefer 2 rooms so everyone has their own space but it's not essential so a 2 bedroom villa could be done if price is right. Liked having free dining this year(though it's far from free when you add in tips lol) so again not essential . We have stayed at LBV before and loved it but have got used to epcot area these last few years when we have got such good deals. Much prefer to walk or have boat to places over bus ride! I'm thinking it just might be impossible next year

In fact I think it's poor value - it particularly annoys me that the starter isn't included as we're not big pudding people, so, as you suggest, by the time we've paid for a starter, a glass of wine each and a tip, we could easily have eaten at a decent restaurant off-site for cost of the extras alone.

They removed the appetizer and gratuity, then they removed the second juice with breakfast, dropped a snack on the QSDP and prices have hiked considerably, all in the space of a few years. In 2009 it was £4.99 for DD for the QSDP and I think £14.99 for me. It's now double that and since a 10 year old is considered an adult by Disney for dining plans ........

Any of you seen this? It's quite interesting

Don't really know much about non driving trips, we wouldn't goto Florida without a car, you would be better getting help off offers who don't have a car.
This next trip we are doing split stay, 8 nights at Swan & Dolphin then 9 nights at Extended stay Deluxe LBV, ESD costing about £32/nt, hope its OK, gets good reviews.

It such a shame that they are really beginning to out price themselves as I really do love staying on resort. It's when the 'die hard' onsite lovers like us start looking at alternatives that the red lights should start flashing. I'm in the same position as you.

Having always stated adamantly that I'd stay onsite or not go, I am also probably at my limit.

Thing is, price increases, even steep ones are part of today's world. But these hikes coupled with getting less and less than you did for lower prices just a year or two back have made me take a long hard look at what it's really worth to us, in terms of the sacrifices we make in our day to day lives for our annual Disney fix.

They have made some considerable cuts to the onsite benefits of late and there are more in the pipeline. So I found it interesting yesterday that WDW's Facebook page had a question for guests asking what their favorite onsite perks are

This is why DVC really works for us. We can get a 2 bedroom are not tied into Disney hotel rates and are not interested in DDP. We can use the villa for breakfast and snacky light meals and go out for dinner either on or offsite.

As for offsite I really wouldn't do it without a car. You need a car for access to restaurants or supplys for the room as everything is fairly spread out and the buses provided are very full and not very frequent.

We're also on-site diehards and I will never go offsite. What will happen is that instead of going every year as we used to go we're now going every other year and then it will stretch to every 3 year

On the "up" side as the boys get older and fingers crossed DS1 goes off to uni then maybe DH and I can squeeze in some trips on our own which will obviously be cheaper as it'll be just the 2 of us

I guess Disney pretty careful looks at on-site room occupancy rates and the amount of traffic through its restaurants, both DDP and people paying as they go..

My impression is that US residents can bear higher prices as they tend to go for shorter periods. Plus they get all sorts of special offers if things are looking quiet as Disney uses them to fill gaps with 3-5 day breaks at fairly short notice.

Having said that we met a couple on such a deal last year and they were very unhappy that they couldn't get into any of the park restaurants as they'd been booked solid for months.

Our initial purchase price would have been covered a few trips ago. Now I just view it as my 2.5 weeks accommodation costs us under £800 a year.

There are so many things to take into account with DVC. I could never see the appeal myself but it can be a cost effective way to stay onsite with long term planning.
If I have my figures correct the annual dues to stay at OKW for 3 weeks this August would be £1,103 or £52/nt but then you have to take into account the upfront cost of 312 points for 3 weeks, I am sure others will correct if I am wrong but I see re-sale being about £15,000.

Considering rack rate is over £200/nt it is far cheaper to buy DVC on the face of it but you have to take into account free dining offers or other discounts.

There are for and against both options. incl DVC members get other discounts but you have the upfront lump sum.
Personally we won't stay anywhere we have to make our own bed, tiny little thing but that's one thing we go on holiday for, no housework and every meal made for us.

Over the years we have looked at buying property, buying DVC, stayed in villas/condos, stayed onsite and offsite. I have come to the conclusion our best holidays have been at OKW or offsite around LBV in a hotel. OKW is great when eating onsite with free DDP but when dining offsite we prefer to stay offsite. We are just as happy in a £30/nt offsite room as we are at OKW. So DVC is not for us but I can see the appeal.

You could make the cost of anything look reasonable by comparing it to a deluxe! I was up for staying at the Poly this year but even my wife (whose parents are well-off and never normally concerns herself with trivial things like price) thought the cost was bonkers.

Personally i think the prices at the Poly are crazy. Not something i would ever pay but then i never paid rack rate for a room anyway. We usually got AP discounts.

We have stayed at both PO resorts several times and really enjoy them. But DVC resorts work better for us - we have 2 small children so a balcony and kitchenette makes our trip easier and more enjoyable.

The original free dining was a good deal, but offers as good as that rarely stay around as good for long. We took advantage of it when it included tips and appetizers and sold our points for that year.

DVC is a long term thing. Like i said it doesnt suit everyone - and im very glad it doesnt otherwise prices would go up
