WCC - fun or annoying?

So one of the restaurants we are looking at is WCC. We like the fact that the food is probably served quickly, right (if we order the skillet which is what our plans are)? So no wait for the little one.

But, honestly, I don't know if it looks like fun or over the top and a little bit annoying.

With that being said, is the food super yummy? Is the food good enough to warrant a trip over from MK?

Besides the antics from the waiters, are the kids activities worthwhile and entertaining?

My kids are 9, 7 and 2.

Whispering Canyon Cafe for breakfast is our family's last day tradition. We love it. We do not find it annoying and have noticed that the staff seems to take their cues from the guests. (if you don't actively play along they will quickly tone it down) My hubby is not one to ask for attention in these situations and he likes WCC, thinks it is just enough fun without making anyone uncomfortable or embarrassed. We usually do the skillet and everyone loves it. The kids activities are fun and your kids are a good age for them. We have done lunch twice and enjoyed it but prefer breakfast. (probably done breakfast 7 or 8 times) It is not quiet, but not so loud that it will bother the average family with kids : )

We LOVE Whispering Canyon for breakfast. We get the skillet generally, and its so yummy, a great way to wake up in the morning! Of course, we've been so many times we know the type of people they pay extra attention to, and what not to ask for, but the humor is great and the kids and the horses are so cute!
Now, for dinner? DD isn't the biggest fan. We haven't had the skillet for dinner, but in 2004 we went there for dinner and we were in the side room with one other family with a son about DD's age. We know our waiter was completely joking, but DD didn't look at it that way (she was 10 at the time). He had them act as if they were on a date, and though it was adorable, DD was still a little sensitive to being called out to that extreme. Just a warning if you have any kids like that, some servers can be more into their character than others. This was the only problem we've ever had with the jokes they play in the 11 years we've been going to Disney.
But overall we love the atmosphere and I'm sure you'll love it too!

Haven't done it for breakfast but have done it a few times for Dinner. The food is good, not great, but it is a fun place and my children have always enjoyed it. The bottomless milkshakes are super yummy!

It is a fun place, don't think it is too crazy. There is a back area, kind of seperated from most of the antics, we got put there once and I thought it was not nearly as fun and kind of missed the whole fun of the atmoshpere, but if you are not sure if you will like the antics, it might be a good place to try it out.

WCC is one of our favorites. We love the food, I disagree with PP, we think it is great. DH gets the skillet and loves it, I get the NY Strip and drool just thinking about it.
So the food is definitely the reason we go to this restaurant.

Now the antics....DH loves it, I don't. But it doesn't keep me away from the restaurant. So to me it isn't that annoying. We don't have kids yet, but I can safely say from eating there a few times, the kids I do see LOVE it! Most of the antics like the ketchup run and stick pony rides are for them and they have so much fun doing them. I don't mind the chaos it brings to see the joy on their little faces.
It isn't over the top, just enough to make the place unique.

However, we commented to Miss Margherita or what ever her name was that we missed some of the antics that they used to do such as waving real (cloth) napkins, the horse clomping, and throwing the straws at us. She told us that management said that it had to be toned down because people complained. Also, we were told that the CM's were giving away too many of the cloth napkins, so they stopped using them as well. With that said, we had our best steak there this last trip. For our longer trips, we go here twice, and it's a must do once on our shorter trips. They also used to have numerous (6+) different kinds of milkshakes and now only have 3 (that was in January), but choc, vanilla, and strawberry are the best 3 flavors anyway!

We went for dinner and we did not get any antics at all. The kids liked the food (especially the milkshakes) and there was a dance around the room for the kids, but no yells for ketchup etc. I hated my meal and the servers were very rushed and disinterested.

[scratching head] Don't know why the food would be served any quicker at WCC than any other restaurant. It still has to be cooked and brought to the table if its in a skillet or on a plate.

As far as "fun or annoying" goes? For us its usually over on the annoying side. The antics may be amusing for a few gags, but by the end of the meal we've had enough. Perhaps the worst thing is that if there weren't any gags, the actual food quality here wouldn't rate very highly.

We have been many times. We liked the food until one Thanksgiving when the holiday meal was just not good. Jokes were ok but right after 911 a waiter snuck up on me and just in back of my shoulder he shrieked. It really scared me and was NOT funny.

We had dinner here last year. We picked this restaurant because we thought it would be fun, but there was no antics other than having a few straws and napkins threw at our table. The food was ok, the milk shakes were the best but my kids were disappointed that it wasn't more fun.

It may depend on the age of your kids, your mood on a particular night and the CMs. When our kids were younger, we went a couple of times and they enjoyed it. Now they are in their late teens + and we vowed never to go again. Last time we were there there was incessant horse clomping (glad that is gone!), the ketchup thing got a little crazy, it was noisy, and the food was so-so. Of course, it was the end of the day and we were tired, so that may have contributed to our less than happy experience.

In my opinion, it is not worth the trip from MK unless you have never seen the WL. If you have not been to WL, and since your kids are little, it may be worth the visit. I think that all the Disney restaurants are worth a try and as you can see from the variety of posts, everybody has their own opinion!!

It is still one of our favorites for both the food and the entertainment, and we don't even have kids.

They had the horse races through the restaurant, but not the clomping with the serving tray( if you know what I mean with that) With that said, our kids are 13 and 11, and still like it. Like I said before, it's a must do on every trip.

We've never had a nutty server which was boring sometimes and welcome at other times.

Our kids don't participate in the activities but my niece and nephew did and really enjoyed them (they're 7 and 4).

The kids' ribs were delicious, fall off the bone. I didn't order them but ate from my son's plate.

If you've never seen the lobby of the WL, I would go, just to see that. It's amazing.

we've had great servers there and ok servers. The food is just ok in my opinion, nothing to write home about, so when we've had a bad server with no entertainment you really notice that the food is not great. My kids still ask to go back every time, but on our last trip we did cut this out.

All that said, I did notice that on our past trip (last week) the food everywhere was much better than it had been when we were last there in 09. So maybe you'll get a good meal there after all.

DS (17) and I are firmly in the "find it annoying" group.

Which is odd since we're generally silly/goofy people. I guess we take our eating very seriously. We found it irritating enough that we cancelled our reservations later in the week at 50's Prime Time b/c we decided we just weren't "antics with dinner" people.

I'd say if you've never been, though, it's worth going once to see what you think, the Wilderness Lodge is a beautiful place to have a meal.

We really enjoy it. We do ask for the back room because we don't have kids with us. I rememb er eating there the first yr. it opened and loved it. I am surprised thanksgiving dinner wasn't up to par. We have xmas dinner there many times and it has always been good.

The one and only time we went (and we won't go back), we were stuck in the back room after a 30 minute wait for our table. We asked for a table in the main room (and there were plenty of them) and they said they could not seat us there. Strike one against the place. During the almost two hours we were there (and we didn't even get dessert as it would have probably been another hour), there were noshennanigans going on in the back room or the main room (I think we heard one birthday song...but no "ketchup", no pony rides, etc.). I have heard it depends on the staff working. We thought the food was awful and won't be going back.
