Has anyone toured Europe for an extensive time before their WBTA? We are planning for the 2017 WBTA as we were already headed to Europe for that year, but now we are facing an interesting situation. We are planning to spend 3-4 weeks in Europe before the cruise and having a Eurail pass. We will most likely be flying into London and taking the Chunnel into Paris where we will begin with our Eurail. We are a family of 5 (Kids will be 12,11 & 10) and plan on doing multiple countries, we have done this before but not capping it off with a cruise OR for this long a period as a family and prior to getting married, I have backpacked Europe extensively. Our question is....we will be travelling LIGHT...VERY LIGHT....pretty much backpacking and will not have room for frivolous items that we would ADORE having on a TA cruise....
What about formal nights? Should we shop in Barcelona (our last stop before boarding) or just not dress up (I understand it's optional, but I think it would be fun AND I really do enjoy it)...would we look incredibly odd boarding a ship with just backpacks? And mainly, what other things will we be missing out on with just the basic necessities in our backpacks?
Shipping a box to port is no big deal when we are stateside of course, but now I am in a whole other ballpark and hoping others have been in our same boat!!
Thank in advance!
