So on the main board they say your not supposed to wear shorts to dinner. I have but I guess I was a rule breaker. I told this to my parents and they got upset. They have to dress up everyday and this is their chance to relax. I know on formal nights and the like you wear pants (they don't want to dress way up), but what about other nights? I'm talking about nice shorts not jeans.

Paul wore then on our cruise and it was not mentioned.

Have a great time in Glasgow, Deborah, and I hope it stops raining! :goodvibes

OK, so it's not below freezing, just right at freezing. First time having to warm up the car this season. Brrrrrr!

Catch ya'll later! :goodvibes

Good morning all carbon based life forms (and Nan).

I have been under the weather lately. A cold started coming on a couple of days ago and now I have a cough and a sore throat.

Work was stressful and completely draining yesterday. I arrived home exhausted and collapsed.

Work was a horror yesterday, it was like walking into a tornado. To top it off, my bosses boss wanted a banner put on the Intranet site announcing that today, Friday, was to be a baseball jersey and jeans day. I told him that I would do it during my lunch. He said he wanted it up in the morning.

I am a one man graphics shop and web master, in addition to my real job which is managing software testing and system changes.

So, with 500 unread emails, and a crisis regarding software testing, I was sitting at my desk making pretty pictures. Needless to say, that only added to the stress.

By the afternoon, I felt like I had razor blades in my throat, a tension/stress headache and was popping ibuprofen.

I also had to catch a later train. I walked in and all I wanted to do was have dinner and go to sleep.

I did not watch the debates last night because one of the vice presidential candidates drives me crazy. One of the vice presidential candidates has said that not only do they not believe in an domestic partner benefits for couples like us, but believes that any gained should be taken away.

So, rather than put my foot through the screen, I watched Upstairs Downstairs in the basement.

Sorry you are feeling poorly Ian. Take it easy when you can.

Ah ha, you ratted yourself out. I got the email too.

Ian sorry you are not feeling well. I hope you can take it easy this weekend and rest up.

Remember when you are hating that job, you have a job. :thumbsup2

Paul is at an interview, just got home. He was called by a recruiter for a temp position for a maternity leave for an attorney at a software company in Palo Alto. It is a part time, 20 hours per week temp job 3 or 4 months. It pays enough to cover our mortgage so that makes it worthwhile....Hopefully this will come thru as his practice is very slow right now.:sad2:

Sorry things are bad at the moment. Hope things get better for you and everyone very soon.

Today was marginally better at work, though it started off awful.

I was at the bus stop and realized I didn't have my wallet. I ran home (literally) and couldn't find my wallet.

I then panicked and thought it must have fallen out of my pocket at the bus stop. So I ran back (literally). No wallet.

Again I run (literally) back home. I am now sweaty, out of breath and panicked. I was about to start calling credit card companies, when I thought I should check my backpack.

I found the wallet with my iPod. I apparently, absentmindedly, grabbed them both together and stuffed them in my bag.

By now I had missed 2 buses. I got to work a bit later than I like, at 7:55 AM.

My throats still felt/feels like I swallowed razor blades.

I was rushed off my feet.

We have a major project that has gone off the rails, especially in the requirements and testing area. Business people have kept pushing off testing and signing off. It is critical that someone with business knowledge does this. Every time we try to make progress, the goal posts move.

I implemented twice daily "huddle" meetings, at 9:30 and 2:30. These are 15 minute meetings and business people have to attend (there are only about 5 key people in the meeting).

Everyone must report on:

- Completed
- Planned accomplishments
- Obstacles blocking accomplishments

Today was the first day of huddles. We actually made progress between the first and second huddle.

I think they're afraid of me. I am also completely relentless and won't let someone not be specific about an exact date and time for a deliverable. I accept no "ishes".

So, I was doing that, and also trying to marshall another major release into production tonight.

I also had to bring my boss up to date on the major project gone sour. She's fine and was OK with everything I'm doing. It really isn't my responsibility as I am not the project manager, but I think she wanted me to get more involved because she knows from experience that I can be a relentless bulldog.

The talk turned to one of my staff people, who really isn't performing and who I think is coasting. It is getting serious. I hate being put in a position where I have to make tough decisions, but I'm at a point where I have no confidence as to his initiative and drive.

Throughout all of this today, I also had to deal with my bosses boss, the CIO, to whom I also report to for certain projects. Then there's my third boss, who I'm having very little interaction with these days.

I guess I'm just popular.

I did have to correct someone in a meeting today. They said that if their given task was Catholic they would say it's in limbo.

I pointed out that they probably meant purgatory, because there is movement onward from purgatory, and not limbo, which was an eternal state and reserved for unbaptized babies, because in theory they still carry original sin, though limbo was eliminated by the pope in 2005.

The room just looked at me, and someone said, "Aren't you Jewish."

I said, "Ah yes, but you never know when I may have to pass."

(And here you probably all thought I just knew a lot about Edwardian England)

Well at least you were feeling a bit better!!! What a day! You do make me laugh though!!!:lmao:

By the way. That's all you're getting from me tonight.

You sure!:rolleyes1

Hi Kathe & Holly!!!

Mom put the oven on for dinner so downstairs is toastyish... upstairs I want to curl up under the cover and go to sleep...

They say you feel nice and warm right before hypothermia sets in, right? :lmao:

I'm headed to bed... mom wants to take a ride tomorrow and leaf peep...

Night!!! :cloud9:

Have a good leaf peeping day Michelle.

Hope you have a nice day in Glasgow.

Had a steep hot walk down to the local fishing village this morning and sat people watching in the square with a glass of freshly squeezed orange juice. Too hot for the walk back so took a taxi. Lunch soon and then a swim. Ahhhhhhhhhhhh.......:cloud9:

Deborah, have a fun wekend without the kids.

Holly, have fun selling popcorn with Tyler. I hope you sell a lot.

Marilyn, enjoy the warm weather while you still can. I'm sure it will not be as nice when you get home.

Wow, it's cold here today. We left 90 degree weather in Florida and came back to 30 degree weather at home. What happened to Fall??? It's definitely Winter already in PA.

Sounds wonderful Marilyn :goodvibes I'm envious!

My daughter is coming over shortly and we are going for a walk in the freezing cold, we only have 3 weeks to try to "shape up" for our trip  Then I'm off to work until midnight then back to work at 8:00 tomorrow morning. Not much of a weekend :sad2:

It's like that here too Deb :cold: I hope it's still 90 in Florida in a few weeks :thumbsup2

:rotfl2: Ian, I'm not laughing about your work stress, but at your sense of humor. I finally figured out that the more stressful your days are, the funnier you get! I suppose it could be sort of a coping mechanism, which is very helpful for such a stressful job like yours. And we all love the laughs you give us!

I sure hope your throat feels better soon.

You've found out my secret. Yes, the more stressed I am, the funnier I become.

I have to go to work today and am not looking foward to it. I have to see my boss and I am soooo upset with her. SHe will act like nothing is wrong but I am mad. So I will hopefully talk to HR and get things straightened out. I can't wait to tell her I have to leave early tomorrow. It was supposed to be my weekend off and I am in charge of taking the church youth group to the mountains tomorrow.

A day trip to the mountains sounds wonderful.

Up here in Chicago, we don't have the most interesting terrain around. A slight incline is considered a summit.

Yesterday I received a very fancy mailing from DVC (as I'm sure the other DVC members here have as well) about the new offering for the Bay Lake Towers at the Contemporary.

I am not going to be adding to our DVC points. We have enough (perhaps more than we need). The only advantage to having points at a resort is that you can make your booking for your home resort 11 months out. Otherwise it's 8 months out.

I would have to think that in this economic time, it was probably a bad time to launch a new DVC resort, though the builidng was of course started way before this crisis.

There's a guy a work who is a maniac for WDW and DVC. He owns over 600 points at OKW, BCV and SSR. All he's talked about for the past year is how he will buy points at the Contemporary.

I bumped into him yesterday and asked him about it, and he told me changed his mind and will not be buying points there.

I thought it was an interesting signal.
