This will probably be one of your favorite pictures of all times......it's priceless!
Oh boy, Tyler's making a door sign for pirate night with both our names on it! He just asked me how to spell "Holly" and when I asked him why he showed me what he was making. I hate to tell him that sign will be lost LONG before we're able to cruise again.
Darrell and I are hoping for the first Baltic cruise (if all the rumors are true).
COOL! Have you been over to the Tortola thread? We have more cruisemates, including another UK couple.![]()
Love the photos and sure wish I had been there with you.
.....back to catch up.....
.
I figured that out after your pictures this morning. I'm soooo jealous.
Yeah, it is supposed to have the opposite effect on ADHD kids. Strange how it does that. Oh well, I just do what the doctor tells me.
OK, I just got my pajamas on, now I'm really headed to bed. It's 12:30!
You're silly too![]()
Well, the one partner that started this whole ordeal by asking me to stay last week, he's happy because I'll be working for him (he's the Energizer Bunny lawyer) and his 3 associates. One partner, the 80 year old, doesn't know anything yet because he'll try to get me to do his work. The 3rd partner is afraid I'll do this again in a couple months.![]()
The office manager is TICKED OFF!She likes us secretaries to think that she's in charge of everything and that she rules the roost. Well, unfortunately, she's basically in charge of maintaining proper equipment for us and making sure the work flow is going smoothly (which she doesn't do). She has absolutely no power regarding hiring or firing, it's all up to the partners because they're the bosses.
She's SO MAD that I didn't talk to her first, but the decision is not hers, so she has no part in it. I work for the lawyers, not her. Well, she didn't say a word to me all afternoon, then at 4:35 she called me and asked if I have a few minutes to come talk to her about things. I honestly told her, "Sorry, I can't, I have a bunch of things that have to get mailed today and the mailcarrier comes at 4:45 to pick up". She yelled, "WE NEED TO TALK ABOUT THIS!" I told her not at the end of the day when things have to get out the door. I didn't leave work until 5:20 because one lawyer brought me stuff at 4:50 that needed to go out today (but by email). As I walked out of the office, I said to her, "SEE?! I wasn't joking, I had lots to get done, so much that I wasn't able to leave on time." She didn't even say a word or even look up at me.Now she knows that I know she has no power after all.
This is actually quite fun!
Hi everybody. I have been in hiding. We leave for our Disney cruise 7 weeks!! I am so excited!!
How is everybody?
Hey, Lisa, I haven't seen you on here in a while.
I know, I have been lurking too much. I am keeping up with everything, just sometimes I don't have much to say. If you can believe that.....![]()

Vanessa is off to Italy for fall break. Just a short plane ride for them....nice to live in Europe!!
We really miss Vanessa....it has been hard to adjust getting use to her being gone.
Frank is so TOTALLY all better!! He is travelling and having the time of his life. I guess near death experiences change your perspective a little.
My mom is the same....GRUMPY. I am taking her to South Carolina next weekend so she can spend 3 months with my brother. The next weekend I am going back to SC for my nieces wedding!! (Mount Pleasant). Soon there after, we go on the Magic!!
Mom has lived with us now for 18 months....and a break will be very nice.
I had a totally crazy night and I don't think it would appropriate to talk about on here. Now I have you all wondering![]()
No one told Deb and Jon that you were coordinating![]()

It really IS such a small world you know......I had just posted on the other thread to Emily/rotary2808 that it was a shame that she was only going to be at WDW for the weekend. I said that if they were going to be there longer, we would plan a little mini meet.
The next thing you know, Monica pointed out that a group of people just passed us with Transatlantic tee shirts on......my husband says, I'm going to go talk to them.......then he asks them, Do you Dis......I'm 1Grumpy John. Emily says......I know you, we're going to be cruising together to Tortola......then I went over and John introduced me as EllaEnchanted and Emily said, I know you posted about us meeting up and we thought we wouldn't be able to so we didn't plan on it......but yet here we are saying hello anyway......SUCH A SMALL WORLD!!!
They had Moet & Chandon.....my personal favorite......and we got to keep two plastic champagne glasses......that we can use when we travel. Gotta recycle.
ADHD drugs fall into a class of medications known as stimulants. ADHD stimulants boost levels of two neurotransmitters, or chemical messengers in the brain, known as dopamine and norepinephrine. Dopamine is thought to play a role in memory formation and the onset of addictive behaviors, while norepinephrine has been linked with arousal and attentiveness.
In non add brains it works like speed. In ADD brains it has the opposite affect of evening out the brain.
Here is some of our favorite research:
----In 1990, published PET data that supported the notion of brain underactivity in the prefrontal cortex, especially in response to an intellectual challenge. Data from my own work with SPECT brain imaging drew the same conclusions. At rest most ADD people have normal activity in their brain. When they perform a concentration task, however, they experience decreased activity in the prefrontal cortex, rather than the expected increased activity that is seen in a normal control group.
Tied to the decreased prefrontal cortex findings are the studies that indicate that ADD is has a large genetic contribution, involving dopamine availability in the brain. A significant amount of dopamine is produced in the basal ganglia (large, structures deep within the brain). Stimulant medications work by enhancing dopamine availability in this part of the brain. Studies have demonstrated that the basal ganglia is smaller in people with ADD. The basal ganglia have a significant number of nerve tracks that go through the limbic system to the prefrontal cortex. It appears that when there is not enough dopamine available in the basal ganglia then there is not enough 'fuel' to drive the frontal lobes when they need to activate with concentration.
-----Dr. Daniel Amen
Although the causes of ADD/ADHD are not fully understood, most specialists believe that chemical imbalances in the brain play a major role. Medications work by correcting this imbalance. Author and ADD specialist Dr. Gabor Maté offers the following explanation of how medication works for people with ADD/ADHD:
Even though people with ADD/ADHD are often hyperactive, their brain waves are slower at times when they would be expected to be faster (such as when reading or attempting demanding tasks).
Like a policeman directing traffic at a busy intersection, the brain's prefrontal cortex sorts out and organizes sensations coming from the body and the environment, inhibiting those that are not useful in a given situation. When the prefrontal cortex does its job, there is order
In people with ADD/ADHD, the prefrontal cortex is like a policeman asleep on the job. Sensory information floods in without being filtered or prioritized. The result is an unfocused, scattered mind. Traffic is gridlocked.
ADD/ADHD medications wake the policeman up, allowing the prefrontal cortex to do its job and direct traffic more efficiently.

Medications that treat ADHD are not tranquilizers or sedatives. They do not slow down the nervous system. They actually improve functioning in various areas of the brain involved with attention, concentration and self-control. Over 200 well controlled studies have shown that these medications are the safest and most effective psychiatric medications. Failure to treat ADHD with medications may result in increased risk of substance abuse and decreased white matter volumes in the brain. ---Child Development Institute
So on our way to church, we drove past a street that had a police car blocking the road and down a bit we could see a TON of people. Tyler asked me what was going on there and I didn't know. Then about 2 blocks farther down, we saw a GIANT field completely filled with cars and a bus pulled out with tons of people in hard hats. DUH! I still didn't get it. Until during the sermon at church when the pastor mentioned prayers for the Extreme Makeover Home Edition team working here this week for the new home for the __________ family (I can't remember their name). I'd completely forgotten! So that's what we drove by.
So after church, we drove by again and looked more carefully down the street. YUP! Those are definitely construction workers with hardhats. It's a short street, so they can't completely hide the site. Walking up and down the intersecting street were tons of people with hardhats and the blue shirts that have the show logo on the back, they must have been walking to their cars instead of waiting for the shuttles (not a far walk). I was surprised to only see one police car at each end of the street. I wonder if I parked nearby if they'd let us walk down to see if we can help with anything. Probably not. But it was still exciting to think that one of our favorite shows is RIGHT HERE and we got to see the site and tons of workers.![]()
I wonder if those contruction workers need to buy some boy scout popcorn?![]()
