John spent 3/4 hours on Indiana Jones yesterday afternoon:eek: . He gets stuck all the time, so after a while I look at the book and sort him out!!:lmao: I can't imagine how anyone finds out what to do without the book. However John has only collected 1 artefact so far(misses picking them up) and seems to have dipped in and out of the first 2 films without finishing the first one!!! He has no idea really what he is doing.:lmao: He really enjoys it though.

Everyone has their own style of gaming.

Sukie will play a game for months and months and keep going back to areas to find stuff. He never uses a guide, he prefers to figure it out.

When I get stuck, I'll look at a walk through.

I like playing on the Wii it's fun, though in many ways I prefer the Playstaton 3 (which is also our Blue-Ray DVD player).

I like adventure games and the horror genre.

However, 2 of my favorite all time games were Kingdom Hears and Kingdom Hearts II. Those games you go to areas that look like various Disney films. You have Donald and Goofy fighting along side with you as part of your team. Then areas you swap in new character. In Kingdom Hearts 1, you went aboard the Jolly Roger and teamed up with Peter Pan and flew. I can't wait for Kingdom Hearts III to come out for the Playstation 3.

I find video games as a great alternative to television, at least they're more engaging and one is stimulated.

I'll go in spurts with a game, depending on how absorbing the story line is.

Some games, especially for the Playstation 3 are more like playing an interactive movie sometimes

I love all those old musicals. I think I was brought up on them, and out town had a local Amateur Operatic Society which did a show each year, and of course this type was very popular. We had all the records too. I think I sang along to them and pretended I was in the shows. Fortunately they didn't 'do' proper opera.

I love old musicals too. I remember watching them on TV.

I remember when I was 13 years old, going to my first Broadway musical. It was Man of La Mancha, and I was captivated. For me, it was like magic.

I got the Broadway cast recording and played the record until it wore out.

I can still sing the entire show of Man of La Mancha.

No Ian yet? He is usually the first of you over there to post. I guess he is having a lie in!

Absolutely true! I slept until 7:40 this morning! For me that's like sleeping until the afternoon. I feel like the day is gone.

I was exhausted from having get up to work WW meetings on both Saturday and Sunday mornings.

Normally, I sleep "late" one day a week, on Saturday, when I get up at about 6:00 or 6:30 AM.

I woke up today at about 4:00/4:30 because of my internal clock, but rolled over and went back to sleep. I guess I needed it.

:eek:SORRY !!

I just got up and realized that a post of last night was in very poor taste. Sorry I was so self focused, I did not realize.....

Now I'm the idiot :scared:

Ian had posted about how sacred Suki was when he was hospitalized and his joke about being allergic to bad taste when he was hospitalized.

Instesd of being kind and supportive I got thinking about that ALLERGIC line and how annoyed I have been lately at idiot drivers, etc so made my post.

Now after a good night's sleep I realize you all may have thought I meant that Ian, Suki, and/or you all were idiots.

You guys keep me sane!

Sorry for being an idiot...

Jan

I at least, interpreted it the way you meant it and related to being allergic to bad taste.

I didn't see anything wrong with your post.

But thanks for the apology anyway

Holly - Having to write the letters down for kids to copy is what every kid needs. I still do that for Shaelyn sometimes when its words she doesn't know. Sometimes, its easier to write it down for her to copy than it is to verbally spell it out. From what you've said its great that Tyler had the patience to do it :goodvibes
Correct about the patience. I think it helped that he had a reason, rather than just writing for the sake of practice. Although this still gave him practice, he didn't realize that! ;)

Ken and Shannon, those kitchen renovation pictures make me tired just looking at them! What a lot of hard work you're undertaking. Can't wait to see pictures of the end result! :goodvibes

Carrot Abuse

Some WW members can sometimes overdo zero point foods and derail their weight loss.

My personal opinion is nobody got fat eating cauliflower, carrots, broccoli, etc. The time to look at it is if is becoming a problem and getting in the way of weight loss.

If eating lots of zero point foods makes a member happy and they are having success with their weight loss, I say, they keep doing what works for them.

I do feel funny talking about abusing carrots. I feel like cracking up everytime I say it.

My members were laughing today, when essentially I broke into a one-man monologue about having an affair with a bunch of carrots, who insists on calling me at works, and so I then slap the bunch of carrots. "I told you never to phone me at the office."

I've never heard of carrot abuse in my life... in fact, if it wasn't for this thread I'd have never heard of zero point food either.

We just picked up this board game and enjoy it quite a bit after only 3 plays:

You can always play a game of good family murder when the power goes out!

:rotfl:

HILARIOUS!!

We saw Tropic Thunder today. We both enjoyed it - though agree that Pineapple Express was funnier.

If I haven't already mentioned stay away from the movie Mirrors - we saw that last weekend and found it too long and bad ending. Wait for DVD.

Tomorrow we might see Death Race or Hamlet 2. Anyone see either of these?

All I've seen is Kung Fu Panda and Kit Kitteridge. Oh yea, I finally got to see Indiana Jones.

I'm allergic to idiots, I just decided.....

Jan :sad2:

:rotfl: :lmao: :rotfl2:

Didn't get to work on this today, had a family crisis arrise. Things aren't resolved completely but at least they are better. For those who pray, please keep my nephew, Justin, in your prayers. He is going thru some rough times right now and we all were very worried for him today.

Call me if you need help in my area.

Ok... now this was the MOST SURREAL thing tonight...

I'm here in the part of Houston where most of the Astronauts live...

Remember the Astronaut who took off to Florida and wanted to kidnap the girlfriend of the other Astronaut she was in love with???? Lisa Nowack???

She was sitting right behind me in church tonight... Her son was also confirmed...

WOW, I've met thousands of celebrities in my years of show biz and my work now. There's only one that made me excited (Sidney Poitier), but astronauts I'm really interested in. I'm a nut about space stuff. Here I am getting Buzz Aldren's autograph at his lecture. I was such a geek.

Well today was a major overhaul in the kitchen day. Took out a bunch of the cabinets and tackled the z-brick. Heck we even took down some wood panelling that was on one wall and took the popcorn off of another wall.

But you should see the stuff we found!

Here is a piece of wallpaper that was found behind one cabinet. Can you imagine an entire kitchen covered with this stuff?

And here is where our island used to be. Check out that gorgeous brown lino that is at the bottom. I found this in our foyer and on our staircase too. The whole house must have been coevered in it!!

And here I am removing the wood panelling. Lots of holes but I'm glad it is gone.

And here is Shannon removing some more of that accursed Z-brick. We still have more to take off!
154602.jpg

Lots done today but we still have LOTS to do.

This looks just so much like our house. Ours is a 1959 ranch and the ugliest house on the block by far. Neighbors thanked us when we painted it. But the inside had dark brown paneling everywhere with 3 layers of wallpaper on absolutely everything including all the ceilings. Each wife (3) had re-wallpapered over the last wife's wallpaper. We are still a long way off from being done here. We still have one pink and gray bathroom and a totally nonfunctioning kitchen. We do all the work ourselves too. One project each year. The exterior and all the landscaping is almost complete.

After years of going to bed after the theater shows at 2-4am, I now get up at 5:30 - 6:30. When I sleep into 7am I feel like I've missed all the quiet time and am terribly behind schedule all day.

I can't believe we're travelling again.

Even though it's only a 6-day trip I've started getting everything together.

Our biggest issue are the dogs, Tallulah and Truman.

Some of you might recall that we came home from the repo cruise to an unfortunate situation.

Boarding 2 dogs is very expensive, about $90 a day. What we did for the cruise was get a friend of Sukie in to dog-sit.

He really needed the money and we saved a lot of money. I paid him very well, and he really didn't need to do very much, just feed them, and let them out. It was very easy cash in-pocket.

Plus he got to stay our our place, which for him would be a bit of luxury, what with the 2 flat screen TVs, HD satellite, Blue-Ray, etc. We also did all the grocery shopping so he would be well supplied.

When we came back, we got an earful from our neighbors/tenants upstairs, who themselves have 2 dogs.

They told us that the dogs were locked in their crate most of the day, and they would hear him yelling at them.

Sukie was extremely upset, and has stopped talking to him altogether.

It's a same, because he really does need the money and it was so easy.

So, we've had to find a new boarding place. The place we had been using was good, but too far away, plus they weren't the most cooperative people around, insisting that everything be done at their convenience.

We tried a new boarding place when we did our overnight in Canada. It was recommended by our vet. They're not too far away from our house (about 3/4 of a mile), plus they offer pick-up and drop-off which is great considering these things frequently need to happen when I'm at work and Sukie doesn't drive.

Their pricing is pretty comparable to other boarding places.

H O W E V E R .... I do think they are a tad "over the top." I'm actually a bit embarrassed by the place and find it verging on silly.

They consider themselves a "doggy spa." Let's put it this way, Sukie and I don't even get that kind of treatment when we go on vacation.

I was looking up their phone number yesterday and I came across these 2 news pieces from local Chicago televison.

You'll see what I mean:

This pathetic because I'm quoting myself but I have to ask a question. How much fun would an Alaskan cruise be for the kids? I can just imagine "Look kids, there is another animal" and "Isn't this beautiful, I know you can't swim like the other cruise but this is much more educational". :lmao: :lmao:

I have read various reports on kids enjoying the cruise. I think a lot depends on what they like to do and see.

You obviously did need it, and as you are going to be busy in the next few days it will help!

I thought you were on my side :confused3 I saw pictures from Jon's mom's cruise to Alaska and it looked boring to me. I can't imagine the kids having fun with the scenery. I know they would have fun in the clubs but we went to the pool almost everyday so I'm not sure what we would do during that time. Plus a lot of the time we couldn't even tell what the picture was of. She of course would tell us but it must have been pretty far away. I think I'll wait to make any decisions but if it is Alaska, I know we would love to do the PC repo again.

That is so expensive. I guess you know they'll be alright but it seems like a lot to pay. I'm glad you didn't have to pay that for the long trip.

Hey, my first choice would be for a PC repo, but seems most popular rumour at the moment is for a Transatlantic and Med cruises and I'm not sure John would do that.

I give you guys a lot of credit for taking on these tasks yourself.

Our house was built in 1913.

Sukie and I once removed wallpaper in a little entry foyer. It was like and archeological dig. We went past literally decades of wallpaper. When we hit the 1920's we hit some fabulous art deco paper that we really liked.

We never made it earlier than the '20's because the wall fell down.

No kidding, the entire wall fell. The plaster just crumbled and came away from the lathe.

We were standing there looking at rubble and nothing there but the lathe.

The wallpaper had been holding up the wall.

We then had to get someone in to drywall.

That was just one of our many of our stories about our attempts at home renovation and how the house rebelled.

.

We repainted over sea green walls. We still have real wood paneling in our bedroom which I hate but according to Jon's dad it would be a nightmare to remove because it isn't paneling, it is real wood. I don't think there is drywall up under it. We want to add on another bedroom and make that one an office so it wouldn't be that bad to keep it up, right? We have refurbished the hardwood in the bedrooms but decided to wait on the rest of the house, which is just a big living room and hall way. I can't remember why we decided to wait now since the carpet is Berber and white :scared1: Well at least it's suppose to be. We did spend a lot of money outside and in the kitchen, which still isn't done. Oh and speaking of outside, our gardener hasn't shown up in three weeks and we don't even own a lawn mower.

Why? I'm just doing research ;) What is the repo for the transatlantic and med? I know Monica posted the ports for the Med but what about getting over there? I thought about that this weekend.

The thoughts this week at our dismeet were that they will not leave the Caribbean before the new ships are coming over the next year, so they will do alternating 10 & 11 night southern caribbean cruises.

I've heard so many stories, I can't even keep them straight :lmao: And I would love to know about the presidential discussions you all were having this weekend.

That is what we did last year, 14 nights on the TA and then 11 nights in the med. It was 25 nights on the Magic.

Castaway Cay
Tenerife, Canary Islands
Cadiz, Spain
Gibraltar, UK
Barcelona, Spain
Palermo, Sicily
Naples, Italy (Huge selection of places to go we went to Amalfi Coast, Sorrento)
Rome, Italy
La Spezia, Italy (this was a huge selection of places to go,we went to Pisa)
Olbia, Sardinia (a waste of time, but I did pasta cooking class with Joey Fatone and his family)
Marseilles, France (a big stop, we went to Aix on Provence)
Villefranche, France (another big stop with many selections. We went to Nice, Monte Carlo)
Then most of us flew to Paris.

I think he is like a few others here who would prefer to do a Transatlantic on a cruise liner specially built for the job.

So how many of the ports were for the first cruise? That all sounds great to me. How was the weather and when was it?
