I hope you mean Michelle's mother as mine has been dead for 5 years!!!

I do remember butter being sold by weight and being patted into a nice shape with wooden paddles, then wrapped neatly in greaseproof paper. Sugar and flour was always weighted out and again tipped into thick brown bags and neatly folded over. I don't think we had cottage cheese till I was grown up. We did however have dripping sandwiches. Sukie might remember.

Mom Says HI!!! and she's sitting downstairs watching Jeopardy... But she's going to Walmart later so if anyone sees her there...it's really her... :rotfl:

I think we were still in the silent movie era when I was born!!:lmao:

Nah.... I'm sure I read that Talkies were just coming out about then... (and Marilyn had a crush on Al Jolson....)

Man Marilyn, I thought i was older than you and Ian but I am not so sure. Of course I was born in a mid-west city and grew up al over so don't really remember a lot of what the cities/towns were like. Just remember that my grandmother's summer cottage had an outhouse and we were given baths in the sink with water that heated on the stove. The sink had a hand pump. Those are fond memories. :lovestruc

Carol

Well, you know... both Marily AND Ian think that they lived during the Edwardian Era... :goodvibes

Great news. Will be interested to hear how things went.

OK...Here are the details: His official diagnoses (yes, plural) are mild ADHD - nonspecific (he said that basically means it's only a small part of things and that there are multiple other issues), ODD (oppositional defiance disorder) - moderate, learning disabled (which we already knew-for math, reading, writing), Emotional Impairment - mild, Sensory Integration Dysfunction (which we already knew and is why we go to occupational therapy), and Adjustment Disorder w/Anxiety.

He said if Tyler were an adult, he'd give him Celexa (an anti-depressant) but that there are too many studies about anti-depressants in kids and increased suicidal thoughts. Now it's recommended that drs. don't give them to kids under 18. So he gave us Risperdal. It's an anti-psychotic drug, and he said of course Tyler isn't psychotic, but that in low doses it's been found to reduce anxiety and aggression.

He said the diagnoses will likely change as Tyler grows and his brain matures, and he had to decide what were the most serious issues at this time. He said the aggression and the inability to focus were the 2 biggest issues in his opinion. He wants to only treat one area at a time to see what's left after eliminating some of the issues. It's his thought that it's possible that Tyler's inability to focus could be related to extreme anxiety and that if we eliminate that anxiety, he might be able to focus better, but there's no way of knowing until we start working on each thing. He'll re-evaluate in the fall (with many med-checks in between now and then) to see if he needs to add a med to help him focus.

I think that's about all! :) I'm giving him his first pill tonight at bedtime. YIPPEE! Oh....one more thing....he said unlike anti-depressants or other meds that can take weeks to take effect, he said with this drug, we'll see results in a few days to a week! I'm about to cry with relief. Yes, I know it might not work for him, but it's such a huge step in the right direction.

Holly

I am glad to hearing from you and glad that you are :cool1: :cool1:

Glad that you have found what wrong with Tyler.

I was thinking that when I saw him, he seem normal child and you never know what people's think.

Same with my son, when he was little, he was so thin and unable to finish homework. My family and I thought he was so LAZY until Ian's dad went to lecture for the meeting and he realised that something problem with Keith.

He came home and gave me paperwork, when I read, I got very upset and we found that Keith's have dyparaxia and dylexia (sorry wrong spell). He is not normal child. Hospital want him to have mri scan brain but I don't want to because I don't know to know. Now he is label for Dyparaxia.

Good for you to got the times now for Tyler before too late.

I hope the tablets will work out for him, might take a while.

I am not very good to write a nice english. I always short english. I hope you understand my english.

NOW YOU KNOW NOBODY IS PERFECT!! As Tyler look so lovely when you took the photos of him.

Scottishwee35:hug:

I'm a mustard gal! Just use mayo to mix with a little tuna or chicken to make t or c salad. I've got Best Foods (Hellmans) Lite on hand, so that will do the trick.

Got my list made and will be heading out in a bit. I decided to stop at the dollar store and buy a new dinner plate, salad plate, bowel and silverware to take to work for serving my lunch. Maybe I'll even get a cute placemat too! Might as well make brown bagging it a nicer experience, eh? :thumbsup2

.

Going to use the totebag from the cruise to carry your lunch?

I have a favorite football team now--the Florida Gators--because their staff invented Gatorade and I love how I feel now that I am drinking it!!

Thanks V !!

Congrats V on the new degree!!

Jan :earsgirl:

Holly, that all sounds so complicated, but I think with you having been there through everything you sound to have a good grasp. I hope these meds make a noticable difference for Tyler quickly as they say.

Deborah, you get everything accross really well in your posts so your English is doing ok!!!

The only thing I ask is did Keith have the MRI scan to get the diagnosis?

I'm so happy for you and Tyler. I think I mentioned anti-psychotics. I've heard about the anti-depressants giving kids thoughts of suicide but I still have a friend that has her kid on them so I'll have to research that. I wonder if his decision was based on Tyler's family history. I think I'll go back to school and be a neurologist. It shouldn't take that long, right!

Your English is fine and it is so refreshing talking to someone like you that is so positive. I need to take a lesson from you. I just hope you can always understand what I am saying. Does he have Dyspraxia? I really don't know what it is but I searched it. Is he on medication for this or do they do therapy? This is an interest of mine.

Deborah, you get everything accross really well in your posts so your English is doing ok!!!

The only thing I ask is did Keith have the MRI scan to get the diagnosis?

Hi Marilyn

I don't want Keith to have MRI scan as top specialist doctor told me that tiny bit is missing from his brian but doctor said she see keith's progress doing well and she think Keith will be clever. He is well behave boy but very bad/quick temper now I dont know if it is his aged?

Scottishwee35

Thanks Holly - I do miss her and others. So sad, but understandable, that so many don't post.

Would be nice to know how people are doing - after all we prayed for folk, chatted for months, got to know them as much as you can, and then this is it!!!:sad2:

Ah well, we have to get used to the passing of time I suppose.

I miss you guys too!

Michelle - sorry about the stones! yikes!
Nan - did I miss an opening night?

I am home sick today, was up half the night trying to breathe! The girls are doing well. Hard to believe Samantha is starting K in less than a month!

Ken - loved the pics of the fair!

Hello everyone. I'm back. We had too much fun and I can't tell you about it :rolleyes1

We just went to the water two days and had 114 degree weather. Sunday we had bad weather so we took the kids to the kids club and gambled a little bit. We found a machine that actually let us play for a long time. We didn't win much but we did get to sit there for a few hours so that was fun.

I'm not going to catch up on the 20+ pages I missed. I just went back one page.

I understand, I just didn't know if you ended up having one or not. I agree with your concerns about a child having a scan if it isn't necessary.

You wouldn't know Keith has a problem.

How old his he again? Ethan has always been really mellow and laid back but lately Brooke can really set him off. He doesn't hit her but he looks like he is going to and he chases her and calls her names. This has only been for a few months now and he is eight. Brooke does do bad things sometimes but it never seemed to bother him before.
