:goodvibes: Grandma Jan checking in--

I am sitting in a big comfy chair DISing on the RAZ with Sophie on my chest while her Mom sleeps and her Dad and Grandpa watch a show about mining.

This is LIVING :yay:
:)

Sounds like you're having a great time!

Ian, the world is so different now. Kids understand technology from a very young stage, but don't have the freedom to explore the world. It becomes a trap where by the time they are old enough to explore, many don't have the desire to do it.

Best Xmas present.....

DONNY OSMOND OFFICIAL CALENDAR 2009

Alison gave it to me... I shouted OH MY GOD when I opened it and he is my idol man.....

Scottishwee35

I wish I could have been there to see you open it! :lovestruc

Please, please don't tell Amy about this . . .:sad2:

I think getting to shake hands with him after a concert she dragged me to ranks as a lifetime achievement.

John, I really enjoyed meeting him too. He's a delightful man, pretty darn good singer and STILL cute.

Nan's a party where ever she goes!

Ain't that the truth. :dance3:

I told them that the concept behind Newspeak and Big Brother was that we use language to express our thoughts. With Newspeak, the concept was, if you limit vocabulary, you hamper the ability to express complex ideas.

The larger the vocabulary, the better able we are to express complexity and subtle differences.

One if my guys is a musician an I asked him to imagine composing but only being able to use 2 notes, with no variance. You can compose music, but not as complex as you can with a full freight of notes and color.

I think that texting, email and IM are dangerous in their ways. One of my remote testers would send me emails using texting abbreviations.

I asked her if her Intranet provider charged her for emails by the number of characters. It drove me crazy.

My guys have said that all the young people do it, to which I responded, "If all the young people jump off the roof, do you have to as well?"

I mean I was young too, and much wilder than any of my guys are.

It's sort of strange if I compare generations, their world electronically is larger but physically their world is much much much smaller than it was in my day. I mean, their physical worlds seem really miniscule. Almost like they're trapped by their cell phones into tiny little spaces.

Their curiosity about things seems much more limited. Plus there's also an almost willful ignorance.

They also seem to shock incredibly easily, which surprises me the most.

I must be turning into an old git.

Oh, I so agree with you here. The music analogy was a good one.

MICHELLE....guess who who is now cruising with me (and a jillion others) in 2010 on the WESTBOUND :rolleyes1

43 days and my DW and I will be spend a week at "The Land". I can not wait;)

Have a wonderful time. It's been a long time since I spent a whole week there...mostly just long weekends. Ah, I remember the days of getting the Grand Californian for $190 a night and having an AP. I think I did 13 visits in 18 months in 2001-2002!

Here's the link again for the new thread, since we've hit 250 now...or will in a couple more posts.

Hmmmm....will we be able to see the fireworks from that view?

Off to check out the time for tonight's fireworks.....

I wonder why they don't have the freedom to explore?

Isn't it odd that things are so much safer now than they were years ago, and at the same time, much more dangerous?

One of my WW members is a dean in one of the big universities here in town. She is the same age I am, and she and I have talked. She notices a difference in the university students and a diminishing independence, and consequently the hovering around of parents.

I suppose all these things are like a pendulum.

We are back from seeing "Benjamin Button."

We loved it and thought it was a great film.

Thanks Jackie...

I can't believe we're still here... I figured you guys would definately have us closed down by now... :lmao:

It's Brad Pitt... based on an F. Scott Fitzgerald short story - he ages backwards - born old and grows young...

Nan & family are off on their cruise today.:)

& we're all jealous... ;)

Hey John... did she know he was SUPPOSED to be our entertainment on our cruise???

Nan's a party where ever she goes!

Yes it is... .:cloud9: :cloud9: :cloud9:

Well I won't annoy you all and try to get to 10,000 posts by NYE. I still have 400 to go and that is impossible, even for me. I hope things slow down tomorrow so I can catch up. I wonder if anyone posted pictures from Christmas. I will when things slow down. Tonight we are off to have dinner with friends. It should be fun and relaxing. Talk to you guys tomorrow.

I cooked a turkey as well. It was yummy! We were on the Magic for Thanksgiving so I missed my own turkey....
Yum! A turkey dinner sounds so good. We had sandwiches because like me, my mom doesn't cook. :guilty:

So, next year he can write Santa a note suggesting he do that to save time and then you will have to borrow some BIG BOOTS to make snow prints and figure out sleigh runners if the sled parks in the yard instead of the roof where no one can see the snow.

Unless  it is a hover craft of some kind that stays in a holding pattern above the yard while Santa jumps down onto the sidewalk. ::yes:: Yup, Tyler might go for that technology, especially since Santa's son Charlie and Bernard are into "high tech" sleighs now. It could work.... :cool1:

Maybe. I'll probably have to do something major like that next year because he'll be 7 1/2 and will probably know the truth by then because it seems kids figure it out around age 6-ish.

I got the impression Tyler did this a lot--wanting to be with whoever he is not with--but that Dad did not tell you how much he does it there :rolleyes1
.
Could be, I don't know. Usually after being with me one day, he's asking how much longer till he gets to go back to his dad's. I figured it's just because he's always with his dad one day less than me. He's never asked me to go to his dad's early, but sort of hinted at wanting to. I've always just told him, "No, you just came from there 2 days ago. You have certain days to be with your dad and certain days to be with me, so this is our time together, you'll be back at his house in 2 more days." Probably not very nice of me, but I think it's important to stick with the routine so Tyler doesn't get all out of whack. Also, staying on schedule makes planning things much easier. If I'd had something planned for Friday night, perhaps had bought tickets to a concert or something, I would have had to say no to Tyler, which of course would have made him feel bad. Best to just stick to the schedule. :thumbsup2
