We had Tyler's new IEP meeting today after school. People from his new school came too of course, so the current school can share lots of info and strategies, etc. Tyler got to meet his new principal, school social worker, and special ed teacher. The school occupational therapist is the same, she visits all schools in the district. His new regular 1st grade classroom teacher couldn't be at the meeting because of a family emergency.

We arranged for Tyler to go see his new classrooms tomorrow. Neither his dad or I can miss work tomorrow, so the current school special ed teacher and social worker offered to take him over there for his tour. :thumbsup2 The current school has been helping him make a book called "Goodbye Colt Elementary" and it has pictures of the school and principal and all teachers he deals with, all the kids in his classes signed it, and the principal and teachers all wrote really nice messages to him. They're doing a great job of trying to make the transition easier on him.

The social worker explained to him that tomorrow might end up being his last day because of the strong possibility of a snow day on Friday, so he will know to say his goodbyes to everybody tomorrow just in case.

His favorite teacher, the special ed teacher, is planning on making a trip to visit Tyler at the new school at least once a week, just to pop in and say hi, and the school social worker and also the principal have said they will come have lunch with Tyler occasionally too. I thought that was very nice and it helps Tyler not be so worried about never seeing them again. They also said it might be possible to bring a friend over to have lunch with Tyler if they get permission from the parents. :goodvibes

Well, goodnight everybody. Have to get up for work in 5 1/2 hours.

Marilyn, I'm glad you and John made it home safely too and that you had such a wonderful time! :goodvibes

. Sat after I get off Matt is taking me somewhere (its a surprise) all I know is I have to pack an overnight bag.

OH, the best kind of surprise

They actually think I'm rather staid, boy if they only knew.

IF ONLY!

I was excited yesterday to come home to 3 christmas cards in the mail! And I finally got into the post office today and mailed mine, so there's a slim possibility the US ones will arrive by "Federal Holiday" but Marilyn's and Deborah's will definitely be late.

I had to re-mail yours! Forgot the extra postage for Canada :sad2: Just went back out in the mail today.

Holly, sounds like the folks at BOTH schools are really working hard to make Tyler comfortable with the change. That's great to hear!

.

I'm here, I was just watching Survivor from last night. :goodvibes

I didn't get home until 9pm tonight because I was doing more Christmas shopping. I thought I was done, but remembered I'd forgotten Tyler's camouflage bathrobe. I ended up adding to his pile a camo bathrobe, 4 pairs of camo underwear, a camo shirt and pants outfit, a camo umbrella, and a camo Timex kids watch. :rotfl2: He did say the other day the only things he really wants from Santa are camo things, so he's got it! :lmao:

Holly... there's gonna be so much Camo there that you're not going to be able to SEE Tyler!!! :rotfl:

Glad to hear they are making the transition a good one... :thumbsup2

Jackie - congrats on winning a day off work!:cool1: That's an excellent prize for an employer to do.

Holly - sounds amazing all that the school is doing to help Tyler transition. Looking forward to seeing the pics of his smiling face heading of to the new school in January :thumbsup2

I'm here and not caught up. We're home from the party. It was great. We got a magnum bottle of Belvedere and 20 lotto tickets. I think we made out, personally.

Who exactly is this "Jackie" person?

I hope you find out before she arrives for Thanksgiving!!!:lmao:

So I have to send you a Federal Holiday card??? I wonder if they make those...

I was wondering that!!! :lmao: I did carefully find a 'Seasons Greetings' one however!

By the way ... I'm sitting in the basement contemplating divorce.

I came home from work today, and Sukie was wearing ... leg warmers.

I shut the front door quickly and hoped the neighbors didn't see him.

I thought he might have been abducted by aliens and the leg warmers were clamped on him as a homing device, but he assured me that he got them in a store.

Rather, I should say he walked into a store and paid for them.

I don't know what to think.

When people get old, do they suddenly start craving leg warmers?

Who around here is old and feeble enough to ask?

:rotfl2:

We wrinklies start craving all sorts of things, so beware!!!

Hey Ian...

If you come home and Sukie is playing the soundtrack to Flashdance... have him looked at... OK?? Please...

:rotfl2: :rotfl2:

Ahhhh Ian....

Mom wanted to know if Sukie was wearing anything else... :rolleyes1

:rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

Sorry! Nobody had a camera! Can you imagine? DISboarders without a camera at a meal? Weird

Hey! Marilyn, everybody wants to know why we didn't take pictures at BJ's!

Can't understand why I didn't take any - I had my camera with me. I think we were all talking too much!!

Also went shopping.... all the Christmas hats and ornaments are 50% off! WOW!!!! I got the cutest Minnie Mouse Christmas headband. I look really dorky in it....I'll be wearing it every day until Jan 1 !!!!!

I bought one of those! :cool1:

You are going to be a very popular mom. Unless it is Santa who is bringing them that is.;)

We had a great time Holly. Next trip we should get to see you!!!!!!!!!!!:yay:

Holly, it looks like the schools are really working towards a smooth move for Tyler. How is he feeling?

Ian and Sukie ----- there are so many Smart cars on the roads these days here in Sarasota..... I swear, I feel like each one should say IAN or SUKIE across the hood, they so remind me of you both!

I am sure I asked you before - but do you both get to the taste of Chicago, I had a friend in college from there who so raved about it.

In all of our years in Chicago, we have been to Taste of Chicago ... once.:rotfl2:

We tend to avoid crowds and it can get very crowed.

I take it back, I've been twice ... because I used to work a block away and I went over to the "Taste" for lunch once.

Not so. We haven't seen 30F here in days and it was only in the teens yesterday the whole time it was snowing. And we're supposed to get a foot of snow tomorrow night and it's not supposed to get above 23F. I have no idea how it all works.....Crazy stuff! :confused3

But it does have to warm up to snow. I mean it never snows when it's like 10F.

Good Morning All (and I suppose Nan)!

I overslept, so just a brief weather report this morning (Holly, take notes)

We will have freezing rain this morning, turning to sleet by about noon, then snow by about 3PM.

It is supposed to snow from 3PM today to noon tomorrow, Friday.

By Sunday, they expect there will be 1 foot of snow on the ground.

Congratulations Grammy Jan....how wonderful to have a sweet little baby girl in the family to fuss over.....welcome Sophis Tosha.

You said she was born in Bethlehem, PA...that's where I used to live before we moved 30 minutes north and bought our house. We're still closeby. Is that where you are going for Christmas? How long will you be in town?
.
We are driving over on Christmas Day and staying about a week. Not sure of plans each day as they have projects on their house we can help with and I hope Sarah let's me do laundry and dishes, but since I hate having other people do that for me, I will understand if she does not.

:) Jan

We never have snow days, just occasionally schools closed because it gets too cold, but that's rare.

When Vanessa moved in with us form Norway, she thought we were CRAZY (so will you). :scared1: :scared1: :scared1: In Washington DC, if snow is just forecast, they close schools. When flakes start falling out of the sky....people abandon their cars and start walking. It is just crazy here.

They say the problem is so many people move in and out of Washington because of the political climate that many have never lived where it snowed or driven in it. (During Bush, Clinton, Bush many were from Texas and Arkansas). Most of the folks coming now are from Chicago, at least they will know how to drive in the snow....and sell Senate Seats!!!:lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

We are on the freezing line as well...so often it is just pure ice that comes out of the sky and that is a mess.

Chicago never shuts down, ever. The only bit of craziness is the first snow of the season, because everyone forgot how to drive in the snow, then after that, everything is usually fine.

Tyler knows mom would NEVER buy that much camo. Santa is the guilty one here. ;)

We had a great time Holly. Next trip we should get to see you!!!!!!!!!!!:yay:
I know, and I'm excited! I haven't booked anything yet, but the dates are the same because he won't have day care available that week anyway, so I'm definitely sticking with that week. :thumbsup2

Holly, it looks like the schools are really working towards a smooth move for Tyler. How is he feeling?
Well, after he cried when I told him, he's seemed ok with it. In fact, yesterday, just out of the blue, the school social worker says he told her, "You know, I think the new school is going to be nice." So he's accepted it. The only person he won't say anything to it about is his favorite teacher, the special ed teacher named Mr. Hager. So Mr. Hager has decided that from now on he'll rearrange his schedule so he can go visit Tyler every Friday, and will try to have lunch with him occasionally. :thumbsup2 And he's the one who's taking Tyler today for a tour of his new school, so Tyler thought that was a fun idea. :goodvibes

About the same here, but ours is supposed to start about 7pm Thursday, ending with a foot of snow ON TOP of what we already got the other day, by Friday night. :scared1: Tyler's school already told him that today will likely be his last day because of the possible snow day, which will happen if we do indeed get that much snow overnight.
