Added thoughts on the DVC Member Cruise--
The draw for us was two days at
Castaway Cay. We spent one at Serenity Bay

and the other on the Family Beach. During that time a lot of the special events were held on the ship, special speakers, etc. We did not attend any of them except the first pre-release-showing of Frankenweenie. We went to a DVC event long enough to talk to the new President of DVC and tell her how much we and our family enjoy DVC travel opportunities.
We were surprised at how many DVC Member cruisers use other cruise lines for their longer cruise vacations and come on
DCL only for this annual cruise. They seemed surprised that DCL has the amazing itineraries we have experienced.
There were a lot of gifts--
Blue umbrella with DVC on the handle but not on the fabric (which seemed odd) that stores in a case that would be good for glasses perhaps that did say DVC.
Light up Mouse Ears
Hand held fan that spells out Disney Vacation Club as the blades go around if there is enough battery power to make them go fast enough.
Lidded plastic drinking glass
Small zippered fabric "suitcase" that folds into its own zipped case and we used it for checked luggage to get home
Plastic bracelets with light up DVC logo on the top
Blue sports watches
DVC Member Cruise pin (and another pin was available in the stores. I am running out of lanyard space and wear pins that represent special cruises so decided against it even though it had Captain Mickey because it was larger than my other pins. Then we got a free one that is a better size so I was doubly glad I did not buy one.)
Bolo tie with DVC member slider
Picture frame
One free photo at Shutters (one free photo per cabin and one free frame per person

) Fortunate in a way because we only got one photo where we looked good out of the few we had taken by Shutters. The morning we disembarked we were on deck 12 looking for a photo op and found a CM who took two pictures of us and both were great. That makes us wonder why Shutters could not do as well.)
DVC Monopoly Game
Except for the photo from Shutters, everything was one per person in each cabin so some families got 5 Monopoly games. We figured there is one for us and one for DS#1 and his family. If DS#2 wants one, he can have ours. Other people said that they were going to use their extras as Christmas gifts.
We had one sea day and went to Palo Brunch. The rest of our time was resting, walking, enjoying the view of OCEAN and the nightly shows.
Would I do it again? Probably not.
Why?
It seemed contrived.
There were a lot of activites that conflicted and the special speakers either did not interest us or were people we had heard before.
It was interesting to see Frankenweenie but I would have waited until another cruise to do that. I was not likely to have gone to the theater for it as I do not fancy Tim Burton's dark style. There is too much negativity in my life as it is with my job seeing families where abuse, drugs, violence and abandonment of mother and/or children is the norm to say nothing of the news, so I do not want those topics in my entertainment. My cohesive families are such a blessing.
Would Tom do it again? I have no idea.
If Tom wants to go again, will I? Yes.
What would I rather have done with that week? Gone on the FANTASY to the Western Caribbean and gone tubing in a Cenote in Costa Maya.
