Yeah... we're trying to figure out what foods to keep in. We're all electric... so I guess I should figure something out. I'm sure we'll be fine. We hardly ever lose electric - our utilities are underground. But this will just be the time...

Well since we're not in the eye we should just have strong winds and heavy rain. The satellite will go down and the electric will go out. So lots of PB&J sandwiches....hahaha. Actually, we have a kerosene heater and when the electric goes out in a winter storm, I had given my mom one because we have two of them. She told me that she cooked eggs and soup on top of the heater since it was hot enough. Only my mother would use it to cook.....hahaha.

kind of sad this afternoon....found out that my favorite server Grissell will not be returning to DCL. :sad1:

She was my assistant server on the WBPC, I saw her on the Tortola cruise, she was my server on the EBTA and on the Maiden Voyage of the Dream. She recently moved to Palo, but I knew I'd still see her.

She posted on FB today that she was not going back. She'll be here in the States for about 1 month, & is supposed to let me know when she & her brother are heading to 1 of the parks so that we can catch up.

sniff sniff

Just watching the weather channel...

Made banana bread...

http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/banana-banana-bread/detail.aspx

they said we should start prepping for at least a cat 1 hurricane. Tried to tell my brothers to pay attention to it.. but they never listen to me.

Have to take all the stuff off my deck... (save the little habanero plant...)

One of my friends from Norfolk VA is overseas for work.. so he's wondering what will be left of his house when he gets back.

Oh that's very sad! I was hoping to have her as our Palo server. :guilty: Pam was looking forward to seeing her too.

Casey and Brittany are evacuating....they're going west with her family to W. Virginia or Tennesee. Scary!

Just laying low today...

getting ready for the storm.. lots of batteries and cans of soup, etc... they don't think it will be too bad up here.. but we have lots of OLD trees that will probably come down.

10 inches of rain possible... yay...

Well... we went out shopping tonight for the storm.

Nothing major... got some sterno.... soups... zip lock bags so we can make ice packs for the freezer... and of course... Brownie mix!!!:banana::banana:

Tomorrow I have to clear things off the deck and clean out the freezer so I can fit water bottles and the ice packs in.

We should just get the flooding - they say between 6 & 10 inches of rain.

Wondering about power outages.

People along the river are prepping for the floods. I'm betting that Jacks will be under water on Sunday... But will reopen as soon as the water receeds... (it's a concrete building and they just move all the stuff to a higher place...)

We're all prepped and ready for Irene too. We cooked three big meals tonight so that all we have to do is heat them up on the BBQ grill. We can make eggs and soup on the grill or in the house on the kerosene heaters if it's really nasty outside. We did our plastic zip lock bags full of water in the freezer today. We have flashlights, candles and gas for the generator. All the cars have full tanks of gas and we took cash out of the ATM today. I think we're ready.

Now with all that being said, Sat we're driving to Long Island to pack up Uncle Teddy's Uhaul truck. He's towing it down to Florida. We are leaving here at 5am and hope to be there by 7am. We're packing out the truck and then we're both heading out of town ASAP. We have to get off of Long Island before the 5pm mandatory evacuations.....first time ever in NYC. Then we will go home and ride out the storm on Sunday and Uncle Teddy and his son Michael will start the drive to Bradenton Florida. They just want to get on the highway outside of New York and then they will pull over and get into a hotel to ride out the storm passing them.

The Weather Channel says even though it's only a Cat 2, the bands stretch out for 600 miles from end to end. Since it's a slow moving storm, we will get saturated with rain and 70 mph winds in PA. This is not going to be pretty. Many downed trees and no electric for a while.

Casey and Brittany are riding it out as well. Brittany's family decided not to evacuate and now with all the bumper to bumper traffic, it's too late to leave. So they will both be riding it out at Brittany's parents house. The storm will hit them on Saturday while it won't hit us until Sunday. They can tell us how bad it's going to be.

I think even if it goes down to a tropical storm... the city is still gonna get hit really bad. The storm surge will be alot.

Suddenly they are saying Albany is going to get the most rain for the NE... won't have to water the garden... if I have a garden to water after this...

Hi all! Grandkids are back in school. It's been a busy summer watching them. Now I will be busy catching up on everything I put off if I can get off my lazy butt. Actually, I am sure that I will put things off until after our 9/11 b2b DD's wedding cruise.

Hope everyone is doing well. I have not kept up with the thread.

Michelle and Deb and anyone else in Irene's path...BE SAFE!pixiedust: We had the worst storm that I have ever seen a few nights ago. Scary! I can't even begin to imagine what going through a tropical storm or hurricane would be like. Take care!

Donna

Hi Donna!!!

Thanks for checking in!!!

We're just about ready.. I have to move the stuff off my deck and throw some more zip locks filled with water into the freezer.

My family in N jersey is hunkering down... my family along the shore have all had to evacuate.

They're talking flooding by us... and lots of wind and tree damage by us. I'm sure that a lot more would have had to be done if we still lived in Jersey.

I'm not doing anything today. Jan, you will be happy to know that today I am recharging my battery. No running errands, no shopping, no purging, no packing. I'm just chilling. I'll be taking a nap soon.

21 days later I read this and want you to know I am proud of you!

I too can help with Champagne Girls costs.

We are home from Alaska. Glad we had warmer weather than the first cruise folks but sorry I missed the pin with the ship on it.

Our younger son starts his new job in Bowling Green, KY on Thursday. We are busy helping him get ready and will take some of his things down next Saturday.

Tom's Dad is here for a weekend visit.

 to all !!

And on top of it... ......

We had another earthquake here in NY... a 2.9 near Altamont (not far from here...) Did I feel that one???? NAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH :rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2:

...........I slept through church this morning for the first time in months. I just couldn't move. And my eyes were swollen with a headache. Not migraine, it was taken care of with Excedrin and going back to sleep, fortunately. I've only been getting migraines about once a month now, or when major storm fronts are on their way through. And that's after weaning myself off my preventative meds. I discovered on accident that caffeine is the culprit. When I gave up pop for Lent, my migraines completely STOPPED. If only a doctor would have suggested that to me years ago, I
would have been saved years of misery and drugs. They always asked how much pop I drink, and I've always told them, but nobody suggested cutting back. Anyway, after Lent, since I noticed the disappearance of migraines, I never went back to the amount of pop I used to drink, but do allow myself one a day as a treat. If I forget and have more than 2, I get a
migraine. So simple. :rolleyes
..............
:thumbsup2

Great news!!
Is it the Caffeine or carbonation?
Can you have the pop with no caffeine like caffeine-free coke or 7-up?
Jan

I wore white ones at my WEDDING. :rotfl2: I've never been one for heels and figured I'd be on my feet so long that I'd want comfy shoes, and since the dress went to the floor, nobody would see my feet. I glued lace on them just in case they peeked out though. ;) I should take a pic and share. I have them in the attic in a box with my bouquet and a couple other wedding things. Should just throw it all out but just can't for some reason.

You "should" do what you want.
You are an adult.
And if what you want is to keep them in a box in the attic then go right ahead and keep them there.

It's the caffeine. I've experimented. I can have caffeine free pop with no problems. :thumbsup2

Just got a text from Michelle - they're ok - w/o power & with lots of wind & rain, but safe.

Hope everyone else is doing ok.
