I have absolute horror stories about my childhood, which I do not look on fondly because I was fat, bookish and not interested in sports, nor did I necessarily get a lot of support at home either, though my brother who had very bad grades but was a football player was greatly admired.

Interesting thing is that I was the one who turned out to be successful, as tough as nails with an iron will.

Sorry to hear about your problems as a child. It is amazing how we remember them, but it seems you succeeded anyway, well done!!

Yes, kids are mean. It's so sad.

Yup, there are plenty of 5K runs throughout the summer. His favorite is every fall, called the Dinosaur Dash and money is raised for the Michigan State University Natural History Museum. Up until now he has done the "Museum Mile", but this year we will both try to do the 5K. There are many throughout the summer to raise money for children's hospitals and other kids' organizations which we will probably do as well.

And since the day he started walking/running during both morning and afternoon recess at school, he's not had one single physical outburst causing him to need the time out room at school! Late afternoons are still rough for him, and there ARE still issues that make him unable to be in the "regular" 3rd grade classroom, but nothing extreme and no aggression towards others. I spoke to the school occupational therapist about this a few days ago and we came to the conclusion that perhaps the running is the appropriate intensity of sensory input his body craves to stay more regulated. It's a major breakthrough!

Really fantastic to hear Holly.

I was bone thin growing up... but it's a common trait for the Lauzon women to fill out in our 20's... That and the white hair... :headache:

I was the youngest in my family. And forgotten for the most part... not by the QM... but by my dad... Ian... I had the same thing... My sister was the smart one, my one brother was the athlete and Kenney and I were kind of forgotten... & when my dad left.. I got replaced by my step sister who was "everything".. I later found out... (and heard about it alot...)

that's why I try very hard to make sure ALL my kids know I love them and spend time with them...(they all think I have favorites and it's the other one... and that I talk about the others alot around them... but what they don't know... is that I talk about THEM to the others when I'm with them... :thumbsup2 (equal opportunity driving them all crazy...)

Maybe having something that intense is good for him. Also... it gives him something to concentrate and work towards. Maysie is training for an Iron Man competition... I can't believe how she trains!!!

Do they give out tshirts or pins or something from all these races? Have him collect them on a bulliten board or something...

Ok... so...

In 3rd grade... I had a nun that decided it was nice to beat the crap out of kids... I did everything I could to get out of that school...

In 4th grade... I transferred to public school... the only one in my family to go to public... until my sister went in high school. (but she was super smart so it didn't matter...)

I was the one with "Cooties" in 4th - 6th grade mostly because I had allergies and the nun who beat the crap out of us wouldn't let us sneeze or blow our noses and we didn't have allergy meds back then that didn't put you to sleep for most of the school day. I guess I didn't realize that in public schools, they knew what tissues were..

those same kids that made fun of me, continued into high school. (I went to a VERY small school and everyone knew everybody else from either school, church, little league...)

Yeah... you could say I was bullied...

I made friends with people in other grades/schools.

It still wasn't easy. My dad walked out the night before my freshman final exams... nice timing... I failed everything and they even had to call in the QM to explain (when I told them why) Things kind of got crazy for me after that.. I suffered depressions, etc.

Then the others in my class went out into the real world and SOME of them realized that they weren't any better than the rest of us and changed... there's still some who are jerks...

A LOT of people have come up to me over the years and told me that they realized that I wasn't who they thought I was a long time ago. Generally what I am now is who I was back then, although I thought I was very shy and figured nobody would remember me... Apparently not.. cause I'm now friends with most of them on FB...

I made sure that all of MY kids knew I was bullied and how it felt and when one of them (Emma) thought it was ok (for about a day and a half by the time I got through with her...) to bully someone... we sat and "discussed" it and by the time we were done, she had gone into school the next day and apologized to the girl for what she had said.

I am proud to say that none of my kids turned out to be bullies. :thumbsup2:thumbsup2:thumbsup2:thumbsup2:thumbsup2

and I'd like to think I had something to do with that. :goodvibes

Most have been giving out medals, so he has them hanging in his room. The all give out t-shirts, so I've saved all the ones he's outgrown and will have somebody make them into a quilt when we have enough. :thumbsup2 He likes that idea.

There are still 4 spots left for the list for Palo brunch on the Hawaii cruise. Pm me if you want to join us!

Everybody must have been busy last night!

Well, the weather guys aren't predicting 93F for today, thankfully, but the 88 predicted will be miserable enough, yuck.

Now I'm off to hurry up to clean the guinea pig cage and kitchen before my mom gets here. We didn't set a time, but I predict she'll be here in a little over an hour. YIKES! I know I've been saying for days I've been trying to clean, but I'm the queen of procrastination. I've always been one who works best under pressure! I haven't even wrapped Tyler's birthday presents yet. :guilty:

So.......off I go!!!!

Oh, and I've also been busy planning our 4th of July weekend trip. Tyler's been wanting to go to the Great Lakes Shipwreck Museum since he was 5 years old because of the story of the "Edmund Fitzgerald" (yes, he was even a history buff at that early age). And I've been wanting him to see our own locks here in MI since the Panama Canal cruise, just to compare (ours are much smaller and shorter length). And I've always wanted to go to Tahquamenon Falls, so a friend from the Upper Peninsula of MI told me Paradise, MI (where she's from) is most central to all those places and we'll likely see moose and bear up there, so that's where we'll be staying. Here's a page showing quite a few of the things we'll see: http://www.paradisemi.org/ParadiseAttractions.php The plan is Shipwreck Museum, Tahquamenon Falls, Oswald's Bear Ranch, Soo Locks, and on the way home a stop at the store of the author of the Michigan Chiller and American Chiller books. These are all things I've promised, and now we finally get to do it! :cool1::woohoo::yay: Well, that is, as long as summer camp doesn't interfere, and I don't know when that is yet. And if that interferes, I'll just take a a couple days off work later to make a 4 day weekend so we can do this. Can't wait!!!! :goodvibes

Phew! Taking a break already! It's only 69 degrees inside my house, but I'm sweating like crazy, working my you know what off. ;) Guinea pig cage is clean, one load of laundry is done (still need to hang it outside though), floors swept and vacuumed, living room and kitchen picked up a small bit (not much, but enough so mom won't be totally shocked when she gets here), going to try to get dishes done before she gets here, then wrap Tyler's presents (because he'll be coming home sometime this afternoon). THEN the hard work starts when she gets here because we'll be doing yard work. Yuck. I'm hoping she brings her sister who loves yard work. :thumbsup2

I hope everybody's having a great day! :goodvibes

Well you have done good despite everything Michelle. Well done to you, and well done for imparting your feelings to YOUR kids!!

Holly... Slow down... you're making ME sweat!!! :lmao::lmao::lmao:

& Marilyn...

HELLO ALL

I am about 20 pages behind but want to welcome the Alaskan Cruisers back and thank everyone who posted photos and info about their experiences !! :woohoo:

:lovestruc Tom and I are reading the excursion list and discussing options for our cruise to Alaska in August. :cool1::banana:

We had a lovely trip on the DREAM two weeks ago. We flew down on Saturday to overlap one afternoon with our granddaughter, her parents, other grandparents, aunt, uncle and cousins for a day at WDW. Then four nights on the DREAM and two more at Bay Lake Towers.

We must be getting old--we took a nap on our sea day and at BLT one afternoon. However, we are blaming the fact that it was in the 90s every day and we are not accustomed to that heat yet. :rolleyes1

Today it is in the heat index is in the 90s and we did much better. We rode our bikes over 14 miles--but, unlike Funchal, Indianapolis is flat. :thumbsup2

my best to everyone,
Jan :earsgirl:

Can I have an invite??? And did you photoshop me into any of the pictures so it looks like I really did go on vacation with you???;)

I did send you one...maybe not to the right email?? what email do I use? (sorry, but I don't have Photoshop)

KEN !! Calling KEN !!

 Can you photoshop Michelle into any of the photos so she feels included? ::yes::

I think I'm going to die. After 2 hours of cleaning the house, 4 hours of yard work in 90 degrees with that slave driver. I need to now, but can barely move or breathe. Been drinking tons of water, of course. She just left, so i'm going to nap until Tyler gets home. To tired to even shower, so I'm collapsed on the living room rug, LOL!

Jan, glad you had a wonderful vacation! Did you like the Dream?

I still have to bake cupcakes for Tyler to take to school tomorrow. And another load of laundry.

Spent the day on housework...doing dishes, doing :laundy:, picking up the living room and cooking chicken in the crockpot. Now taking a break & watching a movie until going to a friend's house for cookout. Not looking forward to heading back to work tomorrow.

Way to go to those who made this weekend a productive one (or atleast an enjoyable one) :rotfl:

Happy Birthday Tyler!

Ok... cleaning check in...

cleaned under the sink in my bathroom... that's one dumpster full... :rotfl2::rotfl2:

FINALLY sitting down! Well, sort of......at least in between cupcake batches. One trip to the store already to buy more cupcake mix because as usual, I burnt the first batch. So I set the oven 25 degrees lower than the instructions say and will check it 5 minutes earlier than what the instructions say. What a pain.

Waiting for one more load of laundry to finish washing so I can hang it to dry. THEN I can go to bed, getting up early enough tomorrow morning to frost the cupcakes before we leave. Didn't end up napping because Tyler called me saying he was ready to be picked up, which was totally fine with me. Came home, opened his presents from me: Pirates of the Caribbean Legos game for Wii, Goosebumps Horrorland game for Wii, Paintbrush remote for Epic Mickey Wii game, and a pair of new camouflage shorts, t-shirt and camo sandals. Super happy with the Pirates game, it goes through all 4 movies! :thumbsup2 It's pretty cool so far, with lots of funny parts. :goodvibes
