So spending Wed, Thurs and Fri with Karen and Bob and the "show" that went on at the funeral home.....just about made me wish I didn't call her and that she didn't come down. OMG! At the first viewing she walked to the door of the room we were in and didn't even look at Ray yet and fell down to her knees and put her head on the floor sobbing like a child. OMG are you kidding me. You didn't see him when he was alive, so why this big drama now? Our funeral director said to me, it's always the ones that have the most regret and the most guilt that cry the hardest. I thought it was all a me, me, me act myself.
When we were cleaning out Ray's room at Mrs. Bush...Karen said she bought him everything in the room and took it to keep...including many things that I bought him. DUH! I let her have them and I didn't correct her. After she hoarded out all his belongings she did not help to empty the last of the contents that she wasn't taking. The kid went over and did it all by himself. One pile to the Salvation Army and one pile to the garbage. John and I were exhausted from one week of running to the hospital for Ray and staying overnight when necessary. Karen and Bob were only there one night when it was time to clean out Ray's room and she and Bob were also too tired. Her adult kids did nothing but stay in the hotel room all day and when I suggested that they pitch in and help the kid, they ignored me. So the kid did it alone.
Karen claimed that she went down to Mrs. Bush's to visit Ray all the time and take him out to dinner. But when John was following her into Mrs. Bush's she stopped and waited for him because she didn't know where Ray's room was.
I promised Ray chocolate ice cream before Karen got there. After they took him off the ventilator I got him some chocolate ice cream. Karen and her son Bobby shared feeding it to him. He smiled and did two thumbs up because he was so happy. Well the whole time after he passed, Karen kept bragging about how she will always remember getting dad his chocolate ice cream and giving it to him. WHAT? That's not what happened. I didn't correct her, I just let her have her way. I basically yes'd her to death and ignored her.
I couldn't wait until after the funeral yesterday when they went home. What a pair!!
