Bad day at work today, 28 people laid off at our office including my old boss. Many of these people I've worked with for over 5 years.

Oh Ian, that is awful news for these people, and upsetting for you.

I've known my former boss for 10 years and have worked for her for 8.5 of them.

It's sad but she was somewhat relieveved.

One of the people who reports to me was laid off. I knew nothing about it until 5 minutes before it happened. I chose to be in the room when they were told because I thought it was the right thing to do. It was extremely upsetting.

Did you suspect this might happen eventually? Such bad times around right now.:sad2: It was good you supported them with being in the room at the time, but traumatic for you.

OMG you guys have been chatty!!!

I just arrived home tonight from PEI. I had a great trip :goodvibes Weather was great, although it did rain a bit. We seemed to have the timing worked out though. It would rain while my mom and I were driving around the island, then stop when we went to lunch and shopping at all of the little craft shops! We also had a couple of days that were warm and sunny and no rain. It had been 8 years since my last visit, but it felt like I had been there only yesterday :goodvibes It did my heart good to go...and I know I made my parents happy too :)

So glad you had a nice time, and that you made your parents happy at the same time.

Thanks for the support for my mom - send the prayers on Monday 7/19 at noon for steady hands for her surgeon :thumbsup2

good news bad news at work for me - no merger bad news - I was the only one on our exec team that was complimented by the other company - good news (but bad news for the rest of my team and the reason for no merger) plugging away at work :guilty:

Next Monday - noted.

All the best in the work situation Nan. Well done for being complimented.:thumbsup2

Okay, I've decided to be brave and join Ken's soccer team :scared1: I ended up playing on Monday as they didn't have enough girls show up and would have had to forfeit. I didn't have shin guards or cleats, and I am far from good, but it was kind of fun, so I think I'll go for and see what happens.

Hi everybody else!

Crumbs Shannon, you are so brave. Keep going!!!!

That's horrible - you did the decent thing, tho'... Hope the work situation picks up...

Well I can always take a table for 12 now and adjust it later. I'll book for 2:30pm if they let me....I'll take the latest time possible. I hope they're open despite the holiday. I had no idea that date was a holiday. Kaz knows. Thanks for that. We can try and see what happens.
I make it my business to know ALL UK public holiday dates, Deb! It's how I get maximum impact out of Richard's vacation time... ;)

I just called Castaway Restaurant....they are open on Easter Sunday in 2011....they are open every day of the year. We can book a table for 12+ at 3:00pm. It's not a problem. They said to contact them 3 months in advance. I'll do it just before Christmas to be certain. YEAH!!!
Fab news!!!!!!! :cool1: I shall put it on the itinerary... :goodvibes

No, no inkling that this was afoot.

Not a very nice culture. The most shocking piece was a department that was told 4 months ago they would be laid off, were a few weeks later told that it was decided that they should be retained.

Most people thought it was weird and had never heard of that happening before, as usually when a department is axed, it's definite.

Well, yesterday for the SECOND time, they were told that they are being laid off..

That's horrible to put people through that.
It seems like an indication of poor organization higher up.

It does doesn't it. Ian I hope you find yourself something else as soon as possible, but not the easiest of tasks at the moment I guess.

Doesn't seem to give anyone any confidence in the company... probably kills morale too...

Stay strong friend... it will get better...
