well i guess it was all your parents could manage, but you would only see the odd place and scary spiders. Did you get out and play in the wild place? Kind of like a huckleburry finn? Fancy not being able to swim in a lake for that reason?:sad2:

We live in a bungalow now, but not a holiday camp!!!! Though sometimes with the noise of our famous neighbour's children you could be excused for thinking that!:lmao:

famous ?

Oh he laughed! He actually goes on vacation at least once a month. He has a condo up north in Michigan that he and his wife are often going to, and they also are in CA often, doing wine research. ;) He's president of the Michigan Vintners Club, so he needs to keep up on his wine knowledge to be able to create a whole bunch of wine tasting events and other wine events. He also writes a weekly wine article (that I usually have to type...LOL!) for a local newspaper. AND he is head of a local Cystic Fibrosis organization and holds frequent fundraising events.

He is indeed the Energizer Bunny, and his wife is just as busy. Tyler's psychiatrist is good friends with my boss, and I told the psych one time that my boss has some SERIOUS ADD! LOL! He sometimes even dictates while working out on his elliptical machine, so when I'm typing, I hear heavy breathing and can clearly tell when he's doing that! :rotfl2:

WOW :rotfl::banana:

Before I run up to the store, I have to share something TOO ADORABLE NOT TO SHARE! :lovestruc When Tyler's dad picked him up last Sunday, stepmom and little Victoria came inside too. They handed me an envelope which said "Tyler's Mommy" and inside was the cutest birthday party invitation I've ever seen! Front and back are below (I covered up the address and phone number):

She's just so adorable (even with her stick-out ears)!!!!

OMG SHE IS SOOOOOOOOOO ADORABLE......I can't believe she's one already. She looks like she's Tyler's sister too. Wow! I didn't expect that. Very cool!!

Btw, how is the guinea piggy with the bad eye? Did he go to the vet? What happened?

I only see a little of Tyler in her, I think around the eyes and eyebrows, I think she looks just like her mom. But she's so cute, and such a happy baby, I just adore her and look forward to seeing her whenever I can. I only get to see her every other week usually, which is a bummer, so getting to be at her party will be a treat! :goodvibes

The guinea pig with the eye problem, Oreo, did indeed go to the doctor. Fortunately, they won't have to remove the eye, but it's a strange thing that happened. The vet put some dye in it that makes infection and/or ulceration show up through a scope, and it turns out there's no infection or anything, he didn't scratch it again like I was thinking, so I don't have to give him oral antibiotics again, but it turns out his eyelid on that eye is PARALYZED. There's a spot you can touch above the eye that makes them blink, and he showed me how he can't blink with that eye. :guilty:

He told me that in guinea pigs, the nerve endings for the eyelid extend all the way back to the neck and if a guinea pig is dropped or falls from high enough, this can happen if they land just right on the head/neck. So he asked me if he'd had a big fall recently. Sure enough, after Tyler's birthday party the end of May, one of his cousins was holding him. I only let kids hold them if they're sitting on the floor, and she was, but when she stood up to put him back in the cage, he leaped out of her arms before I had a chance to tell her he does that, and he landed on his head. Tyler screamed, I freaked out, I was sure he'd die because I've heard that can happen. I thought he was fine, but it turns out that one eyelid was paralyzed, so he can't blink, and the problem was basically dry corneal tissue. The vet gave me moistening drops to put in 3 times a day until he regains his "blink" reflex, if ever. He said it can take up to a year to recover his ability to blink and very often, it never returns. :sad2: Can you imagine not being able to blink?! :scared: I guess he has to sleep with one eye open. So when I put the drops in, I have to move his eyelid with my finger up and down a few times to get the drops spread around like blinking would do. Poor piggie.

HUSH everybody, she's back!!! :scared1:

:lmao:

It's almost bedtime for me, Michelle. I was ready to go to bed at 8, but then my cherry craving hit, so I had to head to go Krogering. ;) Now I'm craving a salami sandwich, but I think I'll save that to pack for work tomorrow. :thumbsup2 Oh.....and somehow it seems a container of pineapple sherbet fell into my cart! Now I just HAVE to give that a try!

What does everyone else call them?

Well I hope you get one quick.

Why what do you call it? I call them hose pipes and always have.

Then again I also grew up with free standing closets being called a wardrobe, two houses that shared a common wall being called a semi-detached, and apartments being to let and not for rent.

No wonder I felt so at home when I lived in the UK for 4 years.

We call them hoses... but then again.. I grew up in Jersey...

Also little 1 story houses where called bungalows.

In fact a big Jewish summer get-away was to go to "Bungalow Colonies" that were in the Bear Mountains in upstate New York.

Marilyn, you will appreciate this ... a Bungalow Colony was very very similar to a British holiday camp.

My parents were too poor and we could not afford to go to the mountains. We used to go to New Jersey to a house that my grandfather had been given in lieu of payment during the depression.

It was in the middle of no where. I remember dirt roads, and the toilet was outside the house (I hated the spiders).

There was a lake nearby that had some sort of community hall. You needed to belong to the community hall to be able to swim in the lake. Unfortunately they did not admit Jews as members, so we couldn't use the lake.

It always struck me as a rather odd place for the family holidays.

Ohhh crap... you just described the camp at the other end of my lake... it's a christian camp... but it's very :snooty::snooty::snooty: nobody gets in unless you are a member and they look down at you if you don't believe just like them... I don't like the place... it's supposed to be a camp - and doesn't pay taxes because of it... but if you looked at it... it's a hotel...

Ohhh and just in case you ever visit me up at the lake... we'll have indoor plumbing...

My great grandmother had the bungalow at Waterwitch built in 1918. It's still there. The houses were so close... If you sneezed in one house... they blessed you from another... :rotfl:

Marilyn - if it makes you any more comfortable, I am completely bilingual and will be most happy to speak to you and John in UK English, though I have never really been able to master the accent. Even after 4 years of living there.

I have a feeling I'm going to need a little hand held translation book...

i wanna come too!
OK, that was supposed to be all in caps, so read it all in caps. ;) I think my laptop has a very polite personality. If I type something all in caps that's longer than a certain length, it automatically switches it to all lowercase. I think it needs to be slapped. Nan? Where are you? ;)

Wow, I'm super babbly today, did I scare everybody off?! ;) Sorry!!! :goodvibes
