I found this funny.

On the game site I usually go to (boardgamegeek.com) there is a forum called "chit chat". In that forum someone posted this pic as a joke about why Ladies should not date a geek.

Then in true geakiness, that thread brokedown into a discussion on number theory with posts such as:

When imaginary numbers involved, greater than/less than have no meaning. So "i < 3u" cannot be true or false, no matter what "u" is equal to.

and

What if u=i? Then you could cancel out the u's and make it 1 < 3, which is always true.

So if the statement depends on what u is equal to, does that make her love conditional??

and the best one:

I assume you mean u=i/3, because if u=i then you have i < 3i, which you cannot say if it is true or false.

If u = i/3, then you have "i < i", which I think you still can't say whether it is true or false. This may be a special case, where you can say they are equal and thus neither is less than the other, but I'm not sure - even in that case it may be meaningless to say whether or not one is smaller than the other.

The idea is that in general saying "x < y" indicates an ordering of the values; any set of numbers can be put in a line from the smallest to the largest. In imaginary numbers, that cannot be done, there is no way to take arbitrary sets of imaginary numbers and line them up from smallest to largest. Sure, you can make up your own ordering, but any ordering you invent is meaningless because simple facts like how multiplication changes the comparison break down and won't work any more.

And of course you have to have the proof:

Usually x < x for any x is false... when x is real. It's just strange to think what that meaning even is when you go into complex numbers. And then what do you do about this?

Proof by contradiction.
Assume i=i
i < i is equivalent to i - i < 0.
i - i = 0
Therefore 0 < 0.
Contradiction.
Therefore i !< i (read: i "is not less than" i)

Ok that made me laugh today. Go back to your usual stuff...

Morning Everyone :thumbsup2

Good afternoon! :goodvibes

I am at the lake... and I have a cold...

How can you be miserable at the lake?????

you aren't, you love the lake, you are happy (say it 15 times and you might believe it;))

Hello Everyone

I am back as had been away to Aberdeen and stayed overnight with my friend and discuss about New York... she made lovely meals... and champagne and wines phew

Now I am off to work soon...

Welcome back!

I know quite a few people in Chicago who live near the lake and are miserable all the time.

As Marilyn said :rotfl2::rotfl2:

Easy. No amenities. I'd rather be at home sometimes than stuck out at the lake. Take this weekend for instance. Long weekend and we are going to the lake to go camping. Other than getting to put my kayak in the water, I really have no real desire to go camping at the lake.

Which is why we only go once a year, and it doesn't really matter which lake we go to, since he won't like any of them, and will be suffering withdrawal from no laptop permanently fixed to his lap. :rolleyes1
Its a delicate balance where he figures he has to go, and has to let me know he doesn't like it, but agrees to mostly hide his miserableness and be a good son-in-law. Plus his kids LOVE it!

I found this funny.

okay, that amused me, and I'm a geek, because I thought there discussion was very factual and of course i < i is false; it is true that i<i because i=i

Glad you had a good time Deborah! :goodvibes

I should have cleaned out the guinea pig cage earlier, but they've been playing almost the whole time I've been home after work and I just don't have the heart to pick them up and take them away from their fun! :rotfl2: They're just so darned cute! I love to pick up Oreo and cuddle....he runs right up under my chin, but again, I don't want to interrupt their play! :lmao: They're stinky though, so tomorrow they'll have to get cleaned out, no matter what. :thumbsup2

So......I still don't know the answer to my question: Is Farmtown different than Farmville?

Our yucky neighbors brought home a bunch of flattened boxes today! I can only hope it means they really are moving out! It wasn't enough boxes to move much, but maybe it's just a start. FINGERS CROSSED!!!!!!

::yes:: they are different. Is there another question you wish to ask?

Thank you Nan! :goodvibes Is there a reason I'd want to have a farm on each one? Maybe when farther in Farmville I might get bored and want to start the other one?

Somebody please remind me about free chocolate Friday! :) Going to bed now. I still have my 2 free chocolate coupons I've already received, so I don't really NEED more, but want, want, want, more! ;)

Hi All!!!!

We are back from the lake a bit early... strange and crazy day...

& some of you saw on Facebook...

At least the Queen Mum wasn't taken away in shackles...

Now as soon as my farmer finishes planting crops, I have to figure out what your talking about :confused3

I've heard that Ftown has been giving people virus problems, I've steered clear...get it steered cow HAHAHAHAH

Michelle, quit implying just spill

We went up to the lake yesterday to see our friends who were staying at our old place where we used to rent... the place is not "in business" anymore they just rent to whomever they want...

Well, the new owner has, lets just say... a reputation for causing problems... One of my friends had told his wife that we would be there this week to visit and that we would be spending the day there... She said fine... Her husband has in the past gotten into screaming fits and even a fist fight or so with people and he is famous for calling in the sheriffs office when ever he feels he wants to...

I went swimming... not knowing, because no one was told, that he doesn't have insurance to allow "strange people" to swim off his beach. If he had told me, I'd have said "fine" and I would have gone next door to where I also have friends... But he didn't. (personally I don't think he has enough coverage for the people staying there now either...)

He called the sheriffs office... now you have to realize that this coward didn't even have the gumption to get off his butt and walk the MAYBE 150 feet to come and just let us know what was what. I would have been fine with that... but no... he called the sheriff (who wasn't happy to be there himself....)

The sheriff had to come all the way down to the beach... (I'm out on the swim raft) (He called because he couldn't identify the "strange woman" on his swim raft) (he DOES know me... & he knows my car (which was parked right next to where he was working...I used to stay there when he rented out the place (that was before the fist fights...) (which I was not involved in...)

The officer talked to my friend, who we were guests of... and told her that we couldn't stay. So... we packed everything up.

MOM, on the other hand is humiliated and quite hurt because all of the other friends (who we have known for over 30 years...) could not get their butts out of their beach chairs to come and even say goodbye to her. Their "reservation" for the cabins seems to be much more important to them than my mother. They essentially ignored us while we were leaving.

She even went to talk to Len (the bad guy) and as soon as he saw her coming - he turned and went inside... he was afraid of her.

I am of course pissed... (sorry, I just am... ) and spent the entire ride, jokingly trying to come up with ways of making them appreciate us (payback) since the cabin I want to buy backs up to their property....

I have decided to paint the cabin flamingo pink...

Blast LYNYRD SKYNYRD's Freebird constantly from the hours of 10 am to 10PM daily until they get sick of it, then I will switch over to Disco because we are destined to order a disco ball and strobe lights to hang in the bushes around the cabin...

I haven't decided yet if my "NO TRESSPASSING" sign is going to be Neon or just VERY BIG...

we thought I might buy the property across the road and erect a very large image of me on a billboard posing in front of the Hamilton County Sheriffs car... in a bikini :eek::eek: :lmao::lmao::lmao:

And then I just decided that I should invite Sukie and let him have a fashion show each day on the beach (Ian... I'll pay to ship in whatever he needs...does he own a speedo?) That should scare some of them...

I know there were other suggestions... but in real life, I plan on composing a nice letter to the Hamilton County Sheriff (Doug Parker) (who is related to 1/2of the people who I know up there...) and aplogize to them for having to drag them away from the important work that they do each day, just so they can come and tell a 77 year old woman that her daughter is "strange" & is swimming illegally.:rolleyes1 (ok... I'll use different words...)

I feel bad that he felt he had to call the sheriff's office because Hamilton County is the largest county in NY and it is also the smallest population so they don't have too many officers to patrol over several hundred square miles... So... I'm going to apologize and then I am going to send a copy of it to Len's WIFE - who really owns the property. I'm not the only one he has done this to... I personally have 3 friends he has done this to.

So... that was our day... & I don't think I will be going back up to the lake to stay for this summer at least... (I might take a day trip to go to the craft fair... )

too much drama for me, not worth a letter or talking or seeing these kind of people imho :rolleyes1

that friend of yours knows her husband is an A S S why bother ??? She picked him and is married to him

No... wrong person... not friends husband... nutcases' wife...

& nan... does this mean you won't come and stand up for me?????
