Deb - I'm sure Ian will be back on and say this better than I will, but here's my spin on it:
You are always burning calories just by being alive! and you are successfully burning more up than you are eating since you are successfully losing weight! :thumbsup2

Good way to look at it Shannon. Since I'm not exercising I didn't consider that I was burning calories. But I have to be burning more than I'm taking in just in order to lose. I get it. Thanks.:cutie:

Today is my WW weigh in day and I'm really excited. I not only lost the 3lbs that I gained last week, but I pushed past the holding pattern and lost 2 more for a total a 5lbs. lost this week. YEAHHHHH!!!! I know I was being very strict and very careful. Guess it paid off. I'm now at a total of 20lbs lost since start up 2 months ago. That's a good average even with my strays from time to time. I'm very happy.

Hey you know what I noticed....when you lose weight you lose points....when you gain weight you don't gain back points. hmmmm. It doesn't really matter....just an observation. I lost 2 points per 20 pounds. Sounds right. Onward.:cool1:

DEB! Way to go!!!

Bad news. I've had my suspicions for 2 months, but I'm now convinced I'm allergic to the guinea pigs. :sad2: Well, not 100% sure, I did lots of research last night and found it could be the type of hay we use or the type of bedding etc., so I need to do some experimenting and see if I can figure it out.

I was trying to decide if it was them or if it was my childhood allergies returning. From about 5 years old until about 10, I had such severe allergies, that my eyes would turn red, water would stream down my face, and my eyes would swell closed. I missed lots of school because of it. And I think that permanently damaged my tear ducts because ever since then, I don't have tears when I cry. I had lots of tests done back then and I was allergic to a wide variety of growing things and stuff flying around in the air.

So when this started up recently, I wasn't sure. The day we got to FL, my eyes cleared up, and then when I woke up at home the morning after we got home, they were red and swollen again. Same with when we went to TN. And I spent more time than usual with the piggies last night, and today when I woke up, my bottom eyelids were so swollen, my eyes were 1/2 closed. There is NO white part of my eye, it's completely red. Our office manager told me I looked like something from a horror movie, and I truly did. It didn't start to clear up until towards the end of the day, and it never fully cleared up. I've been home just over an hour and my eyes are itchy again. :sad2:

So I'm going to try a few different things to see if I can get it under control before considering getting rid of them. The research I did said most people do well with a HEPA filter placed near the cage, so I'll give that a try. :headache:

OK......off for supper!

So sorry to hear this Holly. John is allergic to cats. So he takes the antihistamine meds and stays away from direct contact with the cat. If he touches Ella he washes his hands immediately afterwards before touching anything else. He's able to live with it because it's under control. But I think your allergies are worse than his so that might not work for you. Good Luck. I know how much you love those little piggies. I hope it works out that you can find a way to be able to live with them.

I think I'll be able to. I found lots of info online last night about ways to make it work. A co-worker told me a different kind of bedding to use in case that's what's bothering me because it helped somebody in her family, so I'll give that a try first and if no changes, will try the next thing and so on. :thumbsup2

Thanks to everybody for all your good wishes on my weight loss. It feels really good this week especially after I gained last week. I know I will stray again, but not too much and for not too long. Then I know I can make it up. If I had 5-10 points left at the end of the day and I wanted something late night like I usually do....I would either say, no just wait until morning coz then you get a whole set of new points to use....or I would just eat something that was 0-1 point....never more than 1....even if I had more points available. It worked.

I'm sure it probably comes off easier because I'm just starting and have a long way to go. If I was at a plateau or near my goal weight, I'm sure it would have been harder.

.....fingers are crossed and the pixie dust is blowing your way!:cutie:

Great news on the weight loss!!! :yay:

It's Wil's play? Sorry, I thought it was Molly's.

I'm sure you have told us, but my mind is forgetful....more so each passing year....haha.

Both of them are in it..summer time and I force him, she of course goes willingly ;)

Holly - do you use cedar shavings? those are a common allergy and both Ken & I can't have them, so our degus have pine shavings. Good luck figuring out what works

Of course you're burning calories. You burn calories even when you're asleep.

I would focus on food choices for now. Getting active can come later when you're ready and able.

I started Jan 2,2009 and have lost 118 pounds. These last 2 are killers, but then I will have reached my goal.

:worship: that takes dedication! I am impressed. I started the same day, but have not been as disciplined as you. :worship:

Those last few pounds can be maddening, but keep it up! You're doing great!

Sukie's out for most of the weekend, so we did our grocery shopping tonight.

I managed to run him over with the shopping cart in the produce store. Well, not run him over, knock him over.

He was kneeling in front of the cart tying his shoe, I came back to the cart and was looking up over and way down the aisle for him. I didn't see him.

You know, first I hit him with the Smart Car, and now a shopping car. You would think that I would learn that to be effective I should be up-sizing, not down sizing.

No, I don't. Cedar can be toxic to guinea pigs. It's called CareFresh and is sort of like clumps of recycled paper that absorb the smell and mess. A co-worker told me to try corn cob bedding. I've never heard of that, but will look for it tomorrow and give it a try.

You sure seem to like running him over! Poor Sukie! :rotfl2:
