Oh, dear. I have been REALLY bad today! Started out well, cooked chicken on the grill, but Patrick wanted hot dogs.....so......I cooked and ATE hot dogs with baked beans for lunch.......I am SO BAD! All that salt! I guess I'll just have to drink a gallon of water to flush it out.......oh, dear.

try not to worry as you can start next day....

Hi everyone,
I've had a couple of busy days here in Chicago. Yesterday I did a city tour on a double-decker bus, which was really fun plus it was a nice day to be out in the open. After that I had some lunch and then walked around the parks downtown. I was pretty tired when I got home and went to bed early.

Today a friend of mine and his girlfriend came into the city and we went on an architecture river tour, then went to the art museum. Even though we only had a couple of hours at the museum we saw quite a bit.

I think tomorrow I'm going to hang around here, maybe go walk around the neighborhood a little. I'm pretty tired tonight, been going a lot. Tomorrow night I might be going out to dinner with the daughter of a Prescott friend.

Here's a couple of pictures of my charges, Truman (L) and Tallulah(R)...cute doesn't BEGIN to describe them!

Later, y'all!

Hope you asked Ian and Suskie for permission for photos of two dogs... Just teasting you.... as they are lovely dogs....

Remember Susan Boyle?? Britians Got Talent? Have you seen this one?

Last year at this time I was in the final stages of clearing my desk at work so I could go home, throw the last of my stuff in a bag and head out to the airport to begin an amazing trip.

I was surprised to see this thread on the first page but it looks like some of you have kept it alive for the last year :worship:

What a great trip we had! I never did catch up with all of you but did see some pretty often - Holly and Tyler, Kelly, Ian and Sukie, Marilyn and John (usually at sunrise too - you are from UK right? that would explain it all-lol). Anyway - I hope all are doing well and hope our paths cross again. Nothing planned right now but one never knows.

I really can't believe it has only been a year - the memories are too fresh. I hope they stay that way.

While checking my Twitter posts.....I found this great article on LOST. Don't read it untill you see the show from last night. It's very insightful so enjoy:

The countdown to the Incident (and the Lost season finale) has begun, and it's not yet clear whether the Losties will prevent the Incident, cause it or merely suffer through it as victims. But which players are in a position to do what? And what's the deal with fancy newfangled Locke? We've got your look back at what happened in "Follow the Leader," along with a mess of all-new insight into the finale from the real Lost leader, Mr. Damon Lindelof himself...

WHAT WE LEARNED

Who's the Boss? What strange new Locke is this? Locke really has changed. Does he truly have a purpose (as he claims) or is he just a reanimated dead guy like Christian Shepherd, whose zombie ways are unknowable to us at this moment? Whatever the cause, the consequence is that Locke is no longer the waffling follower we once knew. This new Locke has clearcut goals, acts with the utmost confidence and plays with Ben and Richard Alpert like they were Lego people. What is his goal? Per Locke himself, his mission is twofold: (1) "If there's a way to save our people, I'll find it," and, (2) he's going to kill Jacob. Why? Among other motives, apparently this new Locke comes equipped with a surplus of reason. He's become a rational skeptic and he questions the unknowable god that is Jacob. Who would have imagined that flaky ol' Locke could change so much? For that matter, at some point in the last five seasons, Kate turned into a voice of reason: "Since when did shooting kids and blowing up hydrogen bombs become OK?" Jack, on the other hand, is a newborn devotee of destiny and predetermination. Quite the reversal!

THREE'S A CROWD: Kate, Sawyer and Juliet are officially the most awkward threesome this show has ever created. Even when Kate's not even in the room, Juliet and Sawyer are both deeply uncomfortable with "Freckles." Radzinsky asking Sawyer about his "girlfriend" while pointing out Kate on the monitor in the security hatch was as distressing to Suliet as was Kate's actual presence on the submarine in that last scene. Sawyer and Juliet are nothing if not desperate to escape Kate, and yet fate seems unwilling to allow them a clean getaway. And so the love polygon rages on...

SAYID! Do not shoot at Sayid's friend Kate! Sayid's latest demonstration of deadly marksmanship is another highlight of the always compelling platonic friendship between Kate and Sayid. Yay Kayid.

LOVE MEANS YELLING? We should all mentally bookmark the look on Miles' face when he saw his father sending him and his mother away from the Island forever. According to Miles, he's realized that "[Yelling at her] is the only way he can get her to leave." That epiphany will come up again in the future, mark my words.

RETRO: Loved the shoutouts to season one in this episode, include these highlights:

Locke hunted wild boar, just like old times!
Authority figures beat down Sawyer, just like old times!
Someone melancholy and lost sat on the beach, looking dejectedly out at the ocean, just like old times! (Ben took this one for the team.)
THE OLD ONE: We learned three key facts about Richard Alpert in this episode: He likes building model ships inside bottles; he's an "advisor," and he's had that job for a very long time; and the idea of Locke being the boss worries him greatly.

WHAT'S TO COME

Lost boss Damon Lindelof attended the excellent Juan-Manuel Rocha-hosted Comics on Comics event at Meltdown on Sunset tonight. He offered the assembled crowd several very interesting insights about the future of Lost.

VOTE NO ON MIDI-CHLORIANS: Damon gave us a sense of what kind of Lost questions will be answered, and which other mysteries won't explicitly be explained by the end of the series: "There are certain questions about the show that I'm very befuddled by like, 'What is the Island?' or 'What do the numbers mean?' We're going to be explaining a little more about the numbers, maybe significantly more about the numbers, but what do you mean by 'What do the numbers mean?' What is a potential answer to that question? I feel like you have to be very careful about entering into midi-chlorian territory...I grew up on Star Wars, I've seen the Star Wars movies hundreds of times, I can recite them chapter and verse, and never once did anyone ever say to me or did it occur to me to say, 'What is the Force, exactly? Can you explain that for me, better than Alec Guinness does?' I understand, 'When are we going to find out about Libby?' That's a very finite question. 'Who is Jacob?' OK, yes, we've been talking to this guy named Jacob, so those questions then should have answers, but 'What is the Island?' That starts to get into 'What is the Force?' It is a place. I can't explain to you why it moves through space-time, it just does. You have to accept the fact that it does." Can you live with that?

SURVEY SAYS, ZZZT! WRONG ANSWER: Regarding the approaching final season and possible fan reaction to the accompanying reveals, Damon says, "There isn't a perfect way to end the show, but the end inevitably approaches and so the show has to start answering more and more questions. To me the greatest thing about Lost, just in terms of writing it, was that [over the years] the show could ask a question, and everyone [watching] could say 'Here's what I think the answer to that is.' And next year we're basically going to spend the entire season telling you you're wrong. 'Here's the actual answer to that question.' And you're going to say, 'S--t, my answer was actually much better.' " Have you been satisfied or displeased with the answers we've gotten so far?

HOW IT ENDS: Just as an insight into Damon's mind (and thus a pointer to possible plans for the Lost series ender), you might be interested to know that the M*A*S*H finale is Damon's all-time favorite series conclusion.

MORE SERIES FINALE CLUES: Damon says that when the show ends, "All of the character resolutions will be very defined. There is going to be no cut to black. The show for me and Carlton [Cuse] and J.J. [Abrams] and all the people writing it—it's not about the Island. The Island is where it takes place. It's about this group of people who crashed on the Island on Sept. 22, 2004, and how they influenced the history of the Island in some ways and had a very significant and pivotal role to play there. You're going to see that role play out, and their fates will all be resolved by the end of the series—that's the story that we're telling. In terms of every little bit of minutiae about the Island itself...there will be questions [left unanswered] after the show [ends]."

LIBBY SAYS HI: Libby's story will not be wrapped up on the show. Says Damon, "I have learned that if you kill someone off the show, they are less likely to cooperate with you." Basically, Cynthia Watros is busy until further notice and they can't explain Libby without her, at least not in any way that shows her story rather than annoyingly tells her story. What's the takeaway for us fans? Next time you've got Damon cornered, don't waste your breath asking about Libby. Instead, bust his chops about another very important blonde: Claire! Where is that little minx, anyway?

THE SUM IS 108: This one goes out to all the Lostpedians out there. Damon said, "Here's the story with numbers. The Hanso Foundation that started the Dharma Initiative hired this guy Valenzetti to basically work on this equation to determine what was the probability of the world ending in the wake of the Cuban Missile Crisis. Valenzetti basically deduced that it was 100 percent within the next 27 years, so the Hanso Foundation started the Dharma Initiative in an effort to try to change the variables in the equation so that mankind wouldn't wipe it itself out." This information, in more convoluted form, was leaked out via the online games rather than explained on the show itself, says Damon, because, "That would be the worst thing ever. We have to make the show for the hardcore fans who care about the numbers, but we also have to make it for my mom, who just wants Sawyer to take his shirt off."

SO THERE: While discussing Wolverine and the role of canon in comic adaptations, Damon said, "At the end of the day, you can do anything you want [as a storyteller] so long as it's cool." Certainly applies to Lost too, don't you think?

Just a quickie this morning. We went off to Universal Islands of Adventure this morning, but are now back after getting soaked. It was fun but became really unpleasant and Sukie has a bit of a cold, so the soaking clothing and then in and out of air conditioning was not helping. Unfortunately, everything we were wearing was cotton and not quick drying stuff.

So here's a run down of my tips/experiences so far:

Dining

- We are really liking NOT being on the dining plan this time. I've been keeping track of spending and that includes all the diet Cokes we buy, that would of course be over our 1 snack each a day limit. I would say that we're coming out about even. Perhaps spending a little bit more, but:

- That does include more snacks, which I have counted into my totals. These are snacks that would have ended up being out of pocket anyway.

- We also like feeling a bit less restricted and not having to use our reservations. With the dining plan there was the mentality that we "paid" for the sit down dinner and had to have the big dinner, whether we wanted to or not.

Footwear

My new best friends are some shoes I got right before the trip. I seem to have trouble finding comfortable footwear. I went shopping for new sneakers, but ended up with some unlikely footwear made by Columbia that are incredible. I think they were made for hiking, but they are as light if not lighter than sneakers, and really airy allowing for a breeze to come through.

They are Columbia Pangora:

9499.jpg

Again, the odd thing for me is to be on my feet continuously and not have them hurting. Not even sneakers or running shoes are as comfy as these puppies have been.

Food at Universal

- Disney has met their match for bad park dining. I take that back, Disney is quite good by comparison! Forget finding anything for Sukie to eat other than cheese pizza. There was nothing I wanted to eat. I rate the food at Universal about par with a Six Flags amusement park. With the exception of the restaurant Mythos at Islands of Adventure which was quite good.

Walking

I have been wearing my pedometer everyday, and it seems like I'm averaging about 24,000 steps a day, or a little over 11 miles a day.

Drivers Down Here

- I'm used to driving in Chicago, and let me say, the Dan Ryan Expressway is a walk in the park by comparison to driving down here. I have never seen such passive-aggressive drivers. They follow you about 2 car lengths behind you at 65 mph rather than just pass you. I have not seen anything like this before. Do they have some problem with passing down here? And when they do decide to pass, they do so on the right instead of the left. This almost caused an accident, when I moved to the right to get out of the way of someone who was on my tail, when they decided to pass me on the wrong side. To make matters worse, there was no one around us? No other vehicles not for a few blocks distance ahead and behind.

My iPhonee

- I find that I'm using my iPhone more than my normal camera. I have had a cell phone for years, but have been rather ambivalent about them. As those of you who have Facebook know, I have been taking pictures and posting them immediately. I have also been using the Smugmug app to upload them to a Smugmug album and then delete them from the iPhone. I'm having a lot of fun with it.

That's all for now. We are headed back out to the Boardwalk area.

i love your idea of "quick"

Lots of walking good job. I've got to get my butt outside. After this post I'm doing it. Check back and see if I did :rolleyes1

Does your iPhone give you the battery life you need for all the posting and uploading? I find if I use mine heavy thru out the day it's potentionally dead in the evening. always have to charge it at night. Just womdering what you find.

Our dishwasher woke us last night, huge clacking noise. Repairman just came and left. The motor is going. He said use it until it dies. Such a nice repair guy. I'm so glad we have one we can trust. I just don't have the extra $300-400 around to replace it right now. Will be sad if it dies, we will be with out for awhile.

Keep Paul in your prayers. He is still battleing to get an interview. He may have a lead at Adobe for a contract job. Man stuff is tough out here. Just nothing to be had :sad2: As far as he knows his contract with SONY is over on 5/15. Maybe they will tell him day before if it's extented. So Stressful :scared1:

Santa Barbara looks bad. I know you are a bit away, but stay safe V & Bubba

Have a great time, and remember to keep your elbows off the table or you'll end standing with your nose against the wall like Ken did :rotfl:

We had a very nice waiter, but no fun antics at all. The waitress at the tables behind us was excellent and we enjoyed listening to her. Had a good meal though.

Sorry about the poorly dishwasher. I hope it keeps going for a long time!!!!!!!

I bet you are stressed over the job situation. I will be thinking of you and praying Paul gets a really great job!!

Yes, the fires are worrying. Hopefully Tink and Bubba are well away from them.

Didn't have time to pop by this morning as we were off at 7.30 to get to Fort Wilderness. Really enjoyed the Segway Tour there. Called back in the room for a freshen up before catching the bus the DHS. Much busier today!!! Met our cruise friends and wasted the time waiting for our lunch ressie on the Bg Movie Ride. Well, at least it was cool in there!!!!:lmao:

Lunch was good as I said. We then went off to ToT and had a hilarious ride there with our friends. Much more fun with other people. Very busy when we came out, and with the parade about to begin we went to the Art of Animation and drew Dale!!! I was very proud of my effort.:) I has ben very hot again, and is supposed to get to 95deg tomorrow.

We said our goodbyes to our friends, and promised to try and meet up again in October. The were staying, but we had to get back to pack. Plus they were off to American Idol, and I think that it is well down at the bottom of the list of things I want to do!!!

Once I have packed we will wander over to DTD. I love the location of SSR.

Ian.......Those are really nice shoes.....I like Columbia brand almost anything they make is good. I wear Columbia sandals all year round unless I am wearing my Croc sandals.

YOU ARE SO RIGHT ABOUT DRIVERS HERE!!! They tailgate, they don't use their turn signals, and they weave in and out of traffic.....just to get to a red light, and then, if it's yellow, they run right through it!!!:scared1::scared1::scared1::scared1::scared1:

I'm sending über-good vibes your way for Paul and the interview at Adobe. Is this a lead for a contract position or a lead for a contract attorney position, you know, working on contracts?

Regarding the iPhone, I've been getting pretty good battery life for all the photos and uploads. We do pop back to the resort in the afternoon, when I plug it in for a while, but I have never run out of battery life.

I'm amazed by the little gizmo.

We're going to be at DTD tonight

Connie... (and Ian..) it's because most of the drivers are from NY... :rotfl2:

I am not a NY driver. I never knew how to drive when I lived in NY. I got my first driver's license when I was 27 years old when I moved to Chicago.

My first and only driver's license was an Illinois license.

Connie - I took my driver's test in Elgin!

Oh dear I cannot believe that we flow to Orlando one year ago today... sob sob....

One year on this Sat we had the party times of Panama Canal....

oh well it is a good memory....

anyway, I had the meeting today as just myself with lots of boss, rnid and interpreter... Oh yes, I was very nervous but when I was in meeting I was fine....

I am glad now as the bosses realised about deaf awakeness...

Now Marilyn what is DTD and SSR??

of course, I am idiot again... try to find out as I felt that it is shortnote lol....

Oh well I have a cup of tea now...

thanks and ::yes:: to both, it's a contract job for one year and he is working mostly on licensing these days, so contracts.

I also have to add my thought about "quickie", as that term harkens back to my childhood best of memories.

Our house is four blocks from the park, which we of course call "our park" as it's on our street. When we were little (my sister and I) out with my parents in the car, we'd drive by and sometimes Dad would stop and say go out and have a quickie. That meant we could have one ride, on one piece of park equipment, slide, climbing gym, swing (that is hard to measure of course). So we got quickies when Mom and Dad were in the mood to give them, mostly not when we asked. I of course have continued this tradition with my kids. They like us love it too and we still do it.

So when someone says they had a quickie ;) I think something completely different than what most people might think

Hi Sandy! Good to see you on here! Tyler still uses his FE you made for him! :goodvibes Hmmm......I don't think I posted a picture on here to share. It's camo with skulls, very cool!

Nan, sorry about the dishwasher, that must be a bummer!

Best of luck for Paul getting an interview. Fingers crossed for Adobe!

Ian, thanks for posting your tips today. I'm interested in the shoes and might give them a try. Ever since I gained all my weight back I have trouble with my feet hurting, so these might be just right for me. If they make them for kids, I might get a pair for Tyler too because when we were buying shorts outfits for him the other day, he asked if he can get some really good walking shoes for vacation, and some with good ventilation (his words are "shoes where the air can go through so my feet don't get sweaty"). :thumbsup2

I called in today and missed work because I woke up with a killer migraine. Took some meds and slept until 4:30 pm! Yikes!

Had a small and very late lunch and am heading out to karate class. This will be the first time I've done it 2 days in a row. :goodvibes The mom of one of Tyler's friends from his karate class just started the adult class and she goes to tonight's class, so I told her I'd come so we can help each other get through. :thumbsup2 It will be her second class, so she's still very nervous just like I was.

Then I'm going to try KFC's grilled chicken after class. I wanted to get some last night after class, but they were packed full of people and the drive-thru line was really long. I checked both of our locations and each told me to expect a 15-20 minute wait for our food. That would have gotten me home well after "Lost" started, so I couldn't do that. ;)

OK, better go.....class starts in 25 minutes. :yay:
