I'm here.

Deb, you have a wonderfully inspiring WW leader here who is willing to help you on your way. Go for it. there is also WW online. I believe Shannon is following that.

Ian. Fantastic story and before and after photos. Thanks for sharing.

Holly, glad you had a great time in Chicago visiting Truman and Tallullah and their pet humans.

Michelle. How is the kidney stone?

Hi Marilyn, You are so right when you say how lucky I am to have Ian want to help me get started. I think I'll start with WW online because it fits more into my lifestyle right now. If I need more reinforcement down the road after I have lost some of the weight, then I'll consider adding the meetings. To begin I'd like to keep it easy.

Oh yeah, I LOVED this Marilyn. So funny coz it's true.

Michelle. How is the kidney stone?

still there but I believe getting smaller... at least I've talked myself into that... it's not as bad... still hurts but not like it did...

Bad new: my fridge/freezer broke down....

I noticed on Monday that fridge is not working and checked freezer seem fine until last night freezer thaw out... we throw out everything out...

Ian is going to order new fridge/freezer today as our was 8 years old and no guarantee not worthing to have it repair might cost expensive...

Kettle is not working and my bedroom light is not working....

What is next???

Scottishwee35

Murphy's law... sorry...

Tink Rules

I got a new cross stitches : It is "Me to You - Wedding Day"!!

I cannot wait to get on with it as it is for my brother...

I have not finish Puppy Love cross stitches yet - half way to go... I leave it and start new one, when I finish it, back to old one lol...

Scottishwee35

Ohhhh I want to get back into stitching again... I always had more than one project going at a time... I'd get bored with one... then go on to another...

I just want to say:

:grouphug:I LOVE YOU GUYS!:grouphug:

.

Back at ya babe!!! :lovestruc:lovestruc:lovestruc

Oh now you have me teary!!! Love you too, and looking forward to September.

Jackie... you made Marilyn cry...

Holly, sounds like you and mom had a great road trip! :drive:I'm glad you didn't kidnap T&T, as I'm looking forward to meeting them. Every once and a while, I call up sister Peg and say "it doesn't matter if you are home...I'm coming over for some puppy love" :dogdance:

Deborah, so sorry about the fridge. When I had my power outage problem, I had to throw away a mess of stuff. Thankfully the frozen stuff made it to Peg's freezer. I still have to replace some of the basics that got pitched out.

When I had one of my surgeries my brother called me and asked if he could bring me anything... I told him Maggie... his dog...

Hi Jackie and Marilyn!

I love all you guys too :grouphug:

Everytime I come here with a few minutes to try and catch up on everyone's news, I find a group of the most friendly, caring , sharing people

Kathe

:grouphug::grouphug::grouphug:

Deborah, I wish it were that easy to visit you! I would have done so long ago. Ian & Sukie are the only DISers withing driving distance for me.

I'm within driving distance... just the other way... a couple of extra tanks of gas, an overnight in Ohio, perhaps... you could stop off at Niagara Falls... just don't ask Shannon for directions cause she STILL thinks they are in Illinois...

Isn't the saying that bad luck comes in threes, you should be safe now! Sorry you have to get a new fridge though.I always worry that my fridge might go while I'm away on vacation , what a mess that would be :scared: Didn't Lisa have to clean out her mom's fridge once, after she moved , and hadn't told anyone there was still food in it? I had to replace my washer and dryer a few weeks ago, I'm still waiting for the third breakdown (might be me!)

Kathe

Ours went about a week after we got home last year...

My clothes dryer is almost TWENTY years old....I keep expecting to find it dead some day. The washer was replaced a few years back, but that dryer just keeps going and going. I don't think they even make appliances any more with that kind of life span. I guess it pays to keep the exhaust vents cleaned out, eh?

Speaking of laundry...think I'll go throw in a load. :laundy:

.

Mom got the clothes dyer when I was born... when we moved out of our house in Park Ridge, we finally got rid of it... I told mom that since I was 24 at the time, that anything older than I was was... it was NOT moving with us...

Just 2 weeks today, at this time, we will be enjoying breakfast at Olivias with some of the Thieves.:dance3:

Marilyn... what dates will you be where please... ;)

Deb, your motivated attitude is helping me get motivated. Not motivated enough to go to meetings, but I'm thinking I might try the online option too. I'll check it out tonight after Tyler's in bed. Just a quick couple of posts now after my dad & stepmom just left and before we head out to get the guinea pig. Tyler helped me get the cage all set up, now the only thing that's missing is the animal. :thumbsup2

And I expect a PHONE CALL from one of the American's cell phones so I can say "HI" and hear your voice!

.

I'll do my best! Someone needs your number.

And yours too, please... just pm me... ;)

Well, my dad and stepmom are coming to town today to bring the bike they got for me last week as an early birthday present. Dad told me they'd leave their house at 11am, which means they'll get here at 12:30. He's always early though, I already planned on them being here earlier than that. Well, he called me about 10 minutes ago telling me they're on their way. No time to clean now, so I'm going to just shove all the crap lying around my living room into a big box to put away properly after they're gone, do a quick wipedown of the bathroom, hop in the shower, call Tyler's dad and tell him I'm ready to pick Tyler up. We didn't discuss a pickup time, but whenever Tyler spends an extra night there, he usually wants to come home sometime before lunch.

I'M SO EXCITED for Tyler to come home because he'll see his new computer! We're the proud adopted parents of very cute, wonderful Mac, no longer needed by its former owners! :yay::yay::yay:

Those former owners are SO nice... and so are their humans... :goodvibes

My dryer was almost that old. It hadn't actually died completely, but it was slowly wearing out, parts breaking off and clothes getting caught and getting marks on them that wouldn't wash out. Since I had to replace the washer I decided it was time for the dryer to go too! I don't have laundry to do today, but I better get moving. I have dusting, vacuuming and scrubbing to get done! I think I'll be going to get Serenity this afternoon for a visit, and my SIL might be stopping in to see her.

Kathe

Kathe... my mom used to lift the washer (full with water) and let it drop onto the floor to get it to kick into gear... she also used to take a rubber mallet to the station wagon... :upsidedow

I've been awake for HOURS!!!! My meeting is over, I slept like a baby and now I'm trying to figure out if I'll get another hike in before it gets too hot. Maybe not - it would be an extra one and I think I'll keep planning for TORTOLA!!!

Booked my rental car (well it's a hold) drop off is at Hilton Hotel in WDW. It's Avis and I called Thrifty too - which was a bit cheaper but I didn't like their drop off locale as much. Budget said their's was Doubletree downtown Disney and after a few phone calls - and the dollar amounts were so similar - I just booked it. Plus Avis has this $20 GAS savings card thing - so I'm ahead of the game in my book.

YIPEE! Flights BOOKED
Cruise - booked and paid in full
Hotels (THANKS IAN - all booked!) both locations
Park tickets - next on the agenda! AND I got my AZ Tax check refund !!!!!

I'm a happy gal.

OK.... it looks like we've been invaded.... who let HER in.... :rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2:

Hi Peg!!!! :yay::yay::yay::yay::yay::yay:

This is perfect. You can microwave or grill and that's fine. I would just add in something else that's easy, steaming, for vegetables, and also salad or perhaps soups.

There is also a WW slow cooker cookbook. We don't sell them in the meeting room anymore but I believe they are still available on Amazon.

Points is a shorthand way of talking about calories. Every food has a points value and every person has a personalized points target. I think points make it easy and manageable, plus there are some foods for instance where the points allow you to "get more." I usually have fat free cheese slices on my sandwich. Well, one slice is 1 point, but 2 slices are also 1 point. It doesn't tip up in points until 3 slices. So, therefore I get more than I would if I had just counted the calories.

You calculate a personalized points daily points target, then you also get a set of weekly points to use as you see fit. A little everyday, or all of them for a big bash. They are there to help you from feeling deprived.

Sukie does most of the cooking during the week, and I cook on weekends.

Typically our meals during the week are very simple. Some grilled veggie burgers, soup and some steamed veggies.

I eat HUGE meals. I mean the sheer volume is staggering. But, it is comprised mainly of vegetables.

I also really like the "I Can't Believe It's Not Butter" spray and the Molly McButter cheese sprinkles.

We still do have some very special meals out, but special means special. I like to focus on IPF

I = Items (what I choose)
P = Portion (how much I eat of it)
F = frequency (how often I eat it)

[When I weighed 90 pound more, I was eating half of an extra-large pizza a few times a week. Now pizza is very infrequent, a very special treat, and I don't eat half a pizza anymore.]

I would say that using fruits and veggies are good, because they are filling and round out a meal. Starches are good too, but the right kind. Some are more filling than others. For instance a plain baked potato is more filling and has more staying power (for satisfying hunger) than bread. I frequently have oven roasted potatoes (no oil) with my dinner. I also have a sandwich everyday (bread that is 1 point for 2 slices) for lunch.

For me it worked. I realized that I couldn't go it alone. I don't know why. The support really helped and I also used (and still use) the tools for living and helpful habits (all the behavioral tools) to help motivate myself and help me control situations.

I have already started using "mental rehearsal" for our trip to WDW. I have the entire "film" in my head of the meet-up brunch at Olivia's and what I am going to order and how I am going to order it. This is just one of the tools for living. I know it sounds goofy, but the more mentally prepared I am, the more likely there will be a winning outcome and I'll make the right choices rather than panic and make a choice that will make me unhappy later.

I don't want to make it sound like I will be depriving myself either. I will just be choosing when to "spend" my points and when not to. I still have Dole whip planned in, nice dinners and a big splurge at Boma and California Grill.

You can attend a meeting for free as a guest. As I tell my new members, it is important to find a leader you like and a group you like. I lead 3 meetings on Sunday mornings and all three are so completely different that it's astounding.

I have some members that are big fans and some members that come and prefer other leaders. Just like fashion, there's choice. Otherwise, there would be only one style of clothing for everyone in the world.

OK, one of my final comments about WW. I like the fact that everyone, including the CEO is on the program. Everyone who leads a meeting must have reached their goal and stay at their goal. Unlike other programs, we all know what members are going through. I have a member who lost 100 lbs who has just become a meeting leader.

I like the fact that WW requires that we "practice what we preach."

But honestly, I also believe that any program that works for you is the right program, be it WW or something else that helps you reach your goals.

I hope that some this helps. I know that Weight loss is not easy. I wish it was.

Thanks Ian. This is a tremendous help. I literally took notes.

Weight Watchers is designed to produce a weight loss of up to 2 pounds a week. It doesn't make a difference if you are a man or a woman.

A man gets more food because a man's body is composed of more muscle than fat. Muscle burns more energy than fat.

If you have 2 people a man and a woman and both weigh 170 pounds, the man's 170's is a higher percentage of muscle whereas the woman's 170 pounds is a higher percentage of fat. That's just biology.

I personally do not believe in "weight loss contests" or "races" because it is setting people up for failure. The question is arriving at a destination and not how long it takes to arrive.

I myself kept giving myself "deadlines" and remained overweight for over 20 years. When I finally removed the time aspect, I arrived at my weight destination, even though it took 18 months.

Now 4 years later, I can still say I am at my destination.

It's how you look at it that makes all the difference. Change your way of thinking and you have it halfway beat.

I'm so glad that it clicked for you Ian and thank you so much for sharing your wealth of knowledge with us.

YEAH we can do it together....you, me and Shannon. Cool.

I can't wait to see pics of Tyler's new guinea pig....can't wait to hear what he names him or her.

How exciting for everyone. It must just be a WW sort of day. What an exciting journey you're all embarking on.

I had some very intense meetings today. I had 2 people start crying in my 9:30 AM meeting. One member (who I adore) was very upset because a coworker had been nasty to her, and had been judgmental about towards her about her weight. She recently moved back to Chicago, after having been very ill and surviving cancer.

Other members were really supportive, and I honored that she felt safe enough in the meeting room to let it out. I think she found it very beneficial.

I came home physically and emotionally exhausted this afternoon.

For you WW newbies, just remember to plan your food. I also don't want to hear any lip. If you can invest energy in planning a Disney vacation down to the minutest detail, you can plan a meal at home.

(Wow this is GREAT! I can be obnoxious as I want, because I'm not speaking in an official capacity!)

So, this is my last FULL weekend. Next weekend is very poopy because I only have 1 full day to get ready to go away. Unfortunately, I've got my Sunday morning meetings and then I have to be back at the WW Center at 4PM for training class. I have to attend this training because if I don't I won't be allowed to lead meetings until I do.

So next weekend I have ONE day to get ready for the trip.

I have advised Sukie that next weekend I want his FULL cooperation and I don't want him to give me any lip.

I had a glorious afternoon yesterday getting electronics, batteries and cables in order for the trip.

Can anyone remember a time when a vacation did not include taking a ton of electronics with you? Perhaps just some Instamatic cassettes?

Message received, SIR!

I plugged in what I'd eaten today to see the points value and I would have already used up my points and some of the extra ones..the chocolate malt put over the top!:lmao:

I have some WW guidlines and my immune enhancing foods list (funny how they kind of match up) and will be off to the grocery store in a bit.

V - you do WW meetings right and it's Shannon who does on-line?

Off to with WISH forum to sign in with the WW gang. Hope to see some of you over there.

Just a quick post while Tyler's getting his pajamas on for bed and picking out his bedtime book. He wanted a male all along, so we went to 3 stores to find the right guinea pig.
 He named him Oreo and took a short video that I'll post later after he's in bed. After about 20 minutes in his new home, Oreo started coming out of his little house to explore. The guy at the pet store told us they adapt pretty quickly. I love getting him out and holding him, he's very cute and soft! :goodvibes I haven't heard him making any guinea pig sounds yet. BUT the guy at the pet store told us he'll sort of vibrate when he's happy, sort of like purring (he said it's called burring), and he was doing that when I was holding him and Tyler was holding his toy guinea pig up to him and having the toy one make noises. ;)

OK, off to read bedtime book.
