My kids aren't really into clothes brand names yet. They do have some if I can find them cheap. My friend goes to a shopping day at one of the name brand stores. It won't let me write it here. Anyway, she gets shirts for the kids and it is $5.00 a pound. So they have some. My concern is that when I tell them they need to save their allowance for things they start talking about how poor we are. I don't want to put that burden on them but I think if they want something and it isn't for their birthday or Christmas they should earn it. Brooke wonders why our house doesn't have stairs. Ethan isn't as bad as her but I'm sure it won't be long. I just don't know how to teach them that money doesn't grow on trees without them worrying about money. I think I'm a stronger person and can give up a lot more than some because of how I was raised and I want that for them too. Plus, because my family never traveled or really did a lot of extra things it is a blessing for me and I think my kids take it for granted. When they ask me why their friends have more I just tell them that their friends didn't go on a Disney Cruise.

Daniel went though his entire senior year in High School and he never wore a shirt that cost any money. That was his goal. He would give Blood and get free shirts...he would do mission work and get free tee shirts....he worked with Youth and got free shirts.....he even wore his Chick Fil A shirt when he was supposed to dress up for something.....:rotfl: :rotfl:

Now my girls are not like this at all.....but Annie works and buys all of her own clothes. She told me the other day that she will never pay more than $5 for a shirt....so I guess I have taught her something!!:rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

I forget to give them their money so now I owe them like $20.00 each. We are going to Walmart tomorrow so I'm sure they'll spend it. They both got money for Christmas too.

We had to quit giving our kids allowences, I got too far in debt to them and could not get myself out! :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

Now, I just have then get a job at 14.....Annie works 4-7 2 nights a week and she gets an $80 paycheck every other week...She is too cheap to spend it, so her savings account is growing!!

I think some kids like to be antiestablishment! My son, Mike, wouldn't buy 'designer' label clothes even if he had the money......I often think he'll be sitting in his law office, writing briefs in his Disney Cast Connection outlet shirt or his old Transatlantic shirt! He wears this ancient zip up the front sweater around the house and it has holes in it. I am glad he says he won't wear it anywhere else......

He was always this way.....I sure hope he finds a girlfriend with the same values.....he'd have a fit if she made him dress "stylish"!!!!!:clown::clown::clown::clown::clown:

Our younger DS has a t-shirt that a college friend bought him: black with white letters across the chest which say TRENDY

:rotfl2:

Cracks us up.

In the family Christmas picture he is wearing a red Hawaiian style shirt with designs of BIG BLACK DRAGONS and a navy fleece vest unzipped over the top. Even his brother wanted to loan him a "nice" sweater or shirt to put on, but that's who he is so we are oK with it. :thumbsup2

well the vet visit was uneventful.....Chloe did try and bite the vet tech upon shot #3 - she wised up I guess! So they are done for a year aside from getting spayed and some other shot for racoons that I had never heard of.....Tebow hasn't had that one even.

I am so worn out this week..I blew up today.....John starts softball next week Tues and Thu.....yet closes on Wed and wants to work out M and F - WHAT ABOUT ME????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

he offered to pick up the girls t and t but hell, that doesn't help.
He was off today, do you know he picked up both girls and brought them to my office at 4 so he could be working out by 430. I am over it.

Let's see who can guess what we, Eastwood Manor, will not be doing on Sunday?

WATCHING THE WORLD SERIES???? :rotfl: :rotfl:

I do believe that Sunday calls for a Masterpiece Theater marathon... I have a couple of the last Classic ones on my DVR...

You need some TEQUILA V!!! Seriously though, deep breath and tell John it aint happenin'. I'd say you need a vacation, but didn't you just have one?

:thumbsup2: Sounds like you have a good plan.

Dr Phil had some families today whose adult kids were living at home and parents were paying the full cost of food, car, insurance, cell phone, clothes etc.

One of the outside experts he had on today gives a class to grade school kids about handling finances. Two of the young adult kids sat in on it. The participants each get a piggy bank with four compartments--SAVE, SPEND, INVEST and something else--i have a headache and am not thinking clearly--sorry.

The 25 year old girl was in tears because she said this teacher was the first person who ever treated her like she was mature enough to handle her own finances.

Sounds like your ideas are good ones ::yes:: Maybe the Dr Phil Show website will have a link to order the piggy bank or at least info about the concept if you want the kids to make their own.

:)

Whoa... you really were sick today... did you catch the Suzanne Summers Hormone therapy show on Oprah today?

I'm that bad. And BTW you're old. I had to look up the term.

:lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

GO SPEED!!!

Uggg, I am so upset. So I planned to go tubing on the 7th. There are a bunch of people but I wanted to drive up seperatly and stay for longer. I was off and Matt was not on call. Until today, one of the other guys also had plans and switched their on call weeks. He has been sick so missed his week and has plans the same weekend we have plans. So now Matt is off this weekend and I have to work and when I am off and we have plans he is on call. We are still going as I will not cancel on the others but now it will just be more complicated. I know it will be ok but I needed to vent.

Well Jill... I say go and make the best of it... you may be surprised... stay cool and enjoy!!!

I am actually afraid to weigh in tomorrow!:crazy2:

It has been such a STRESSFUL week!! I am so mad at myself!!!:mad::mad:

It's been so UP and DOWN with my mom! First I think everything is AOK, then the bottom falls out and she's crying and upset over something I did or DIDN"T do, or something I "took over" for,or spoke instead of her, or took over the converstation.....

Then I find out she didn't do ANY arrangements for elec., phone, newspaper, etc ahead of time (like 2 weeks ago) so I have to handle it today.

Then, she can't go out or do anything until 11am, then she needs to come home for lunch and a glass of wine, then off to try to do something else, but by 4 she's too tired to do anything anymore, so home again for afternoon cocktails....then the whole evening is shot.

Oh, thanks for letting me VENT (AGAIN) I have said "sorry" to her so many times this week!

I think she and I need to go to family therapy as soon as we can find a therapist! What a great time I chose to go off of my anti-depressives.......

Any time and I always seem to think I can go off my meds at stressful times - until that load of bricks comes up and knocks me over...

Congratulations to Willie!!!!!!

I am so impressed by your weekly menu......nowadays we all just eat whatever, whenever, wherever we want! Patrick eats when he wants to, Chuck eats late lunch, hardly any supper. I try to follow a low carb, high veggie diet......now that mom is here, I try to make something for her, but half the time she doesn't want to eat......

I remember....oh, here it comes......the olden days when my kids were small and I planned out a whole week of meals ahead of time and we all ate at the table together........oh, how things have changed in our old age!!!!

Ohhh yeah... the days of black and white TV...

You aren't the only one who think we are wimps! Did you see the leader of the free world... and our new neighbor .... weighed in on our school situation. I had to laugh at what the Associate Head of School at Sidwell Friends (where his daughters go) said about all Obama's comments

Washingtonians have bickered for decades over whether the region is too quick to close its schools for snow and ice. Now they're arguing over whether one of their newest neighbors, who happens to be president, was right to take sides in the perennial debate.

Either way, President Obama was off to a quick start in fulfilling his promise to embrace Washington's ways. It's a winter pastime for residents to second-guess officials who close schools at the first whiff of winter weather, and the president dived right in.

Some people said the president should be making nice with his new town. One reader wrote on washingtonpost.com: "If Obama wants to run the schools, he should resign and run for the School Board."

At Sidwell Friends, Associate Head of School Ellis Turner replied to the president's challenge in an e-mail to The Washington Post. "No question, the president is right," Turner wrote. "The next time it snows, we would like to invite him to help us make the decision. His involvement will make it much easier to explain to our students why they won't be able to spend the day sleeping and sledding."

My brothers went to Catholic High Schools... my sister and I went to public (it was too expensive for us all to go)... When they THOUGHT about snow they would close it... we'd get stuck going to school because the superintendent lived on our block and the mayor lived on the next one... we were always the first to get plowed out...

And up here... we have to be having ICE before they will cancel it... those school busses can really book in the snow...

My mom's famous words on my 16th birthday... she woke me up with...

HAPPY BIRTHDAY... GET A JOB!!!! :rotfl: :rotfl: (and I did...) :upsidedow

So how was Wendys? Did you have a Biggie Fry?

It was a drive thru nightmare... my windows were frozen shut so I had to hand my money and get my food by opening the door and handing it OVER the door... and I was racing to make the movie cause I wanted to make sure I got there early enough to get a balcony seat cause those are the stadium seats... (downstairs are regular seating... ) and I think Wendy's was just having a really bad night and my iced tea with lemon tasted like too many coffee/tea things were brewed and mixed in together... not good... but the movie was GREAT!!! And the semi-Elvis impersonator who works pt time at the concessions gave me a refill on my popcorn for a $1 because my mom ate most of mine while I was on the phone with my nephew...

But did you have a BIGGIE FRY??? I've been craving all day!

well.... :rolleyes1 But don't tell anyone... I shared with Mom...

I haven't been able to get myself back on WW since before my dad died... it's coming soon - as soon as my body tells me it likes me again... :upsidedow

Just doing a quick drive by posting here. I'm all caught up. I haven't checked the Wii since I got home tonight to see if we've received any of your Mii's. I'll check it later, maybe tomorrow.

Got a big meeting tomorrow. After my work in the Federal election last Sept/Oct, I am now going to be working in the Provincial election for our Deputy Premier (Premier is like the Governor of our Province). However, I have been asked by the local riding of one of the parties to help them out with their election as they are trying to unseat the incumbent (opposition party). I dislike the incumbent so I said no problem to helping them out when I could, but they have to remember that I have already committed to the other person's campaign. So tomorrow I get to meet their team and the candidate and see what support I can offer them.

It sure is nice to be wanted by politicians .... Hopefully that will have some sort of trickle down affect.

I've been into politics since I was born, I think... worked for the county before I quit to go back to college (election Div.)

I don't think I was ever wanted by any politicians... and we would have gotten trouble if they did... :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

Thanks from Willie and I think I might just turn into that Susie Homemaker if it kills me;)

sorry to hear of the rough road with your mom, I so understand. Know that what you do is kind and right. It's terrible to get old and not feel like you are in control of your own life. I hope when it's my time I can be gracious to my children for whatever they decide on my behalf if they must.:sad2:

Whoa... you really were sick today... did you catch the Suzanne Summers Hormone therapy show on Oprah today?

I did and Willie watched it too, he said, hey mom that's you :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: I figure for the most part it was ok no reason not to have him grant both his sister and his mother some sympathy for the struggles of being woman.

Connie,

Are you doing Weight Watchers? You might talk to your leader or raise some of your challenges in your meeting.
