Ways to maximize savings when purchasing direct DVC contract.. (credit card rewards etc)

Right now we fly Southwest but we're open to switching with all the changes they're making. Maybe it would be nice to go for AA since they have a lounge at LAX, MCO and HNL? And ohhh thats good to know about only the hard pull showing up!

The extended financing on a business card would be nice if that's option so the balance doesn't show up on my credit report if that's an option?
As @eticketplease mentioned SW is also a Chase Ultimate Reward transfer partner. Chase also just refreshed SW cards and with the change in bag fees you may honestly be interested in opening and having one of them: https://www.doctorofcredit.com/source-chase-to-increase-annual-fee-on-their-southwest-card-line/

Amex is actually great with business cards because once you open an Amex and get the initial hard pull on your credit report, Amex will most likely never pull your credit again. You can open ten more business cards and nothing shows on your credit report after the very first hard pull.

Chase will do a hard pull for every single business card, but none of them report balance or credit lines.

Some banks do tend to report business cards to your credit report (for example Capital One does outside of Venture X Business and one Spark card) so just be mindful of that and check here. Doctor of Credit is a great resource! https://www.doctorofcredit.com/which-business-credit-cards-report/

How much do you plan on spreading across cards? Amex Blue Business Plus (MR points) or Amex Blue Business Cash (straight cash back) can offer a decent bonus with 2% back on all purchases and 0% financing for 12 months. Amex is also more generous with business credit limits.

It really sucks that Chase employees really have no knowledge of what the card is actually about. But if you choose in the future to get it, it will qualify. Although I still think there are better cards to get.
It's frightening how uninformed Chase reps can be. Someone posted in another DVC thread that Chase told her she could not refer someone to a CIP from her current CIP :sad2:

Chase is updating the refer a friend and its not as good as it once was. You will no longer get a referral on biz cards if that person already has a biz cad :(

Wow thanks for this!!

I’ve only opened Chase business cards that certainly is a way to get multiple AMEX ones!!

Planning to buy 150 Poly points or so so that'll be roughly 31k + closing costs? Idk it seems like theres no one best card for all of my needs so maybe it'd be good to do a combo of like a CSP for points with SW and Capital One Venture X for lounges and etc. even if it means forgoing the 0% financing? With how many DVC points we own we're probably looking at 1-2 WDW trips a year from the West Coast and a trip to AUL every 1-2 years. We do like going to Japan but I wouldn't say it's somewhere we're going to be going every year or anything like that

If you put the whole thing on a new SW card you will certainly qualify right away for the companion pass!!

If you're tempted by the Sapphire Preferred, I would also look into the Chase Ink Preferred. It still codes 3x travel, has a $95 annual fee, and higher sign up bonus points right now. The spend is 8k vs 5k, but with the 3x travel and higher bonus it's a higher payout per dollar spent for you.

Chase has some interesting "rules" and some may be up in the air with the new dynamic bonus approval process, but it generally only allows two new cards per person in a 30 day period. Just keep that in mind if you want two SW cards for a companion pass or a CIP and a CSP per person. Also don't list your spouse as an authorized user on the personal cards and vice versa because it will show as an account on a credit report with Chase and hit the legacy 5/24 rule (this was hard and fast until about a month ago when dynamic approvals came out. Some people report going over 5 cards in 24 months, but some are still seeing pop-ups so it's best to play it safe).

I’m about halfway to companion pass and I just dumped my whole purchase on that card. I don’t think it will get us all the way there but it should make it doable! Free flights will save me more than any credit card bonus!

Sorry I was referring to if they opened the card now. The welcome offer is 100,000 points after spending $4k puts you at 104,000 useable points then add the 10k of points that are just for the CP by holding the card gives the PP 114k out of 135k. Then DVC purchase was estimated at 31k so then the CP would be hit for sure.

That makes sense - I got it in the beginning of the year where it gave the companion pass for the year, but a lower point value. Definitely got my money's worth out of it this year, hoping for one more year of it!

VentureX is a keeper for us but I must point out that not all priority pass cards are the same. Cap1 didn’t have a lot of what was on my AMEX or Chase. The AMEX was then missing some that Chase had. So if the airports don’t have bank specific lounges and you are relying on the Priority Pass ones then the one that comes from Chase is the one to have imo.
Priority Pass between chase and capital one are identical. The only difference will be in February when Capital One drops guest access. But you can give an authorized card holder guest access for I think $125 a year, which would still be less than the CSR. You would just be limited to 1 guest vs the CSR allows 2.

Like I stated previously I can’t compare the priority Pass issued through Citi but I know for a fact that AMEX, Capital One and Chase are not identical.

Looking at capital one in ATL for B

Now also ATL in B we will look at AMEX

Finally staying in B at ATL we will look at Chase

Chase also has access to the takeout but it doesn’t all fit in one screenshot of the app.

None provide money for the takeout just giving the ability to place orders

My purchase was in the 50k range and I got 8 new cards between myself and my husband. Earned way over 1million points. So more than one card can really get you huge savings

BBP is what my whole last resale purchase is on!

Honestly, as long as someone is smart and organized with their credit, they should open up as many cards as they can hit SUBs on. The credit card companies don't mind as they know many play the game and my credit score basically never moves more than a few points here and there from opening and closing cards. It's a great game to play if you want to travel on the cheap.

Hrmm I see, what do you guys think of doing a CIP because I do value it transferring to SW since they seem to have the flights we need and also transferring to Hyatt since we do like staying there, we're actually staying in a Hyatt during the first part of our Tokyo trip.

In addition to the CIP maybe do an Amex business for the 2% cashback and 12 months 0%? I'd lose out on the lounges I guess but getting better points and cashback takes priority 🤔

I think that is a solid plan. But we never use lounges.
