My kids were 6 and 8 when they went on their first Mediterranean cruise by themselves. Mind you it was Costa, and a two for one deal but they managed just fine and even planned their own shore excursions online beforehand.

And before anyone thinks they are spoiled, they have after school jobs and paid for it with their own money.

Oh lord, they have money........ they would NEVER drive a 40 year old car. They LEASE a new luxury SUV, but always break the lease 2 years early to get the latest model. They move up to a brand new custom built house every 3 years, and lord forbid it not have granite counter tops and stainless steel appliances. They have cable, a dish, netfix, a home theater system and stream movies on their 150" smart TV. They are the ones that Verizon designed the bring your own phone plan for, because they get a new phone every 6 months, not every 2 years. And Safeway delivers their groceries, and they tip the driver $100.



Seriously, this is a very affluent group or a group that is deeply in debit because of discretionary spending. If you are doing multiple Disney trips a year, and multiple Disney cruises, you are spending above what I would consider a middle class income.

I'm with you, a middle class income isn't going to afford what most on here claim.

We're horrible parents. Our DD hasn't passed an AP exam (out of the 6 she's taken), SOMEONE (probably us) will have to take out loans to pay for her college, my kids have been disciplined by others because they're not always on their best behavior, our house looks more like the Heck's than the Brady's, and we only manage a vacation every other year (and go into debt to do so).

I'm stealing the line about "... more like the Heck's than the Brady's ..." because that describes my house on all days that end with the letter "y".

The most amusing threads on here to me are the IQ threads. It was mentioned in those threads too... apparently everyone on the DIS have GENIUS children. They should all be in mensa. I don't have kids but I'm not a genius and I'm sure if I had kids they'd be just average

SO many things I could post but here are a few.

I rarely have my vacations paid for in advance. That's what credit cards are for.
I have a mortgage and a car payment and credit card payments.
I have a retirement account but the kids are going to have to pay for their own schooling. I will help as much as I can, but it is going to be their responsibility.
My kids are not sports stars, nor do they get straight A's
I occasionally take them out of school for family vacations and have no regrets.
Don't come to my house at 3:30 AM and I don't care if you are offended.
I let my kids eat whatever they want on vacation, bring on the donuts, chicken strips and ice cream.

Oh, I don't get that impression at all. I'm not so much amazed at the # who claim to be liberals with no guns (which IS high). But, the number claiming everyone they know is the same is somewhat staggering.

My older son supposedly is a genius according to his IQ. My question though is if he's a genius why does he make so many dumb a** decisions? IQ isn't all it's cracked up to be. He also has absolutely no hand/eye coordination and the poor kid can't play any sort of sport to save his life. I worry about him much more as he gets older than his normal bratty younger brother who's better at sports and makes friends more easily. I think a high IQ's over rated. Anyone who brags about it is full of it.

As for being a bad Dis'er, I'm too lazy to coupon and the few times I've tried I can't find coupons that I would actually use. When I do find useful ones I forget to use them. I either let my 4 year old go to the bathroom alone at certain places or make his older brother take him. I can't stand anything mouse-related and the few times I tried to get my kids to wait to meet characters my kids either got too impatient to wait or the characters scared the crap out of my younger son and he cried. When we did a Disney cruise my sons didn't enjoy most of the onboard parties because they thought they were too loud.

I don't post stuff that would indicate how much/little were worth because I figure that it's none of anyone's business.

I don't contribute to a retirement fund because I'm a stay at home mom so there is no tax break for me. My dh does. I have no idea how much is in it but I can guess.
We can't afford a Disney cruise every year, this is our first one and could likely be our last (for now anyway, we'll see).
Sometimes the vacations are paid in full before we leave, sometimes they are not.
We have a mortgage. A car loan. A balance on our HELOC that never seems to go down much.
We think that staying on property at Disneyland is overrated and a waste of money; we would rather walk ten minutes from our $85/night hotel then spend $300-$500 a night to stay on property.
Vancouver is not the beautiful city it once was, when I was growing up in 80's, why the heck people continue to want to stay here for more than one night before or after their Alaska cruise is beyond me.
If we do sail to Alaska on DCL next year it won't be paid for in full and it will be in an INSIDE stateroom.

I think that is another classic stance, people that try to back up their opinion by saying EVERYONE in their family / social group / region / country etc. all agree with them and think the SAME WAY !! lol. I guess I am not in tune with everyone else's intimate opinions and details as well as the average diser is.

I find that we tend to have only the extremes here. People either have 7 million in the bank or they have nothing and worry about every purchase that they make (and that can be the same person on different threads). Or everyone in their family has multiple guns or they think that there should be no guns allowed at all. Or....
