Is it me or did WDW turn up the volume over the last few years. My sister has always had issues with sound. Since we discovered basic earplugs, she has had the whole world open to her. On previous visits she would pop her plugs in and away we would go. She could many rides and go to all the parks.

2 trips ago we tried stacking ear plugs and ear phones to block the sound in Magic Kingdom. This didnt even get close to protecting her from the noise from any shows, rides or parades. We spent over an hour looking for a quiet spot for her to sit and decompress from all the noise. We didnt find a single spot.
We left Magic Kingdom with her crying in pain then zoning for almost a day and a half. So no more MK for us. Then the same thing happened at Hollywood Studios this last trip.

Please Please Please Can anyone out there help with some suggestions. I really hate for her to miss out on WDW. We have always had fun going to the parks together.

No, it has gotten louder for some reasons. I tried to ask to lower it down, but they couldn't because the older guests cannot hear it.

Were you using the ear plugs that get shoved inside the ear along with a set of headphones? Have you tried noise-canceling headsets? I have a pair that I use at work on the flight line and can barely hear a plane running its engines. Something with a bit more protection may be what's needed.

Yes, she was using ear plugs with shooting range headphone. We also tried the noise canceling headphones they sell in the malls. Those didnt work. Where do you get the ones you were using Random Ninja?

Yeah, there are a lot of things in the World that are so loud I can't imagine how anyone can stand them, let alone enjoy them. It makes me feel like Roderick Usher sometimes! And I must have small ear canals or something, because I've yet to find any earplugs, even children's ones, that don't hurt to wear.

I use a 3M Peltor Tactical. The company makes several different models but you'll probably want one with active noise canceling like the 6S Active or the Tactical Sport. Amazon has several models. The actives are more expensive but they're worth it.

I sure think so! While I don't have any real *issues*, I have very sensitive hearing. I wear the soft foam earplugs during most shows. Indiana Johns and Lights, Motors, NOISE are the worst for me. I even use them now on the GMR.

Noise canceling headphones are not what you want. They really don't work to block sounds. You want noise blocking headphones. I can't recommend any particular ones; you might do a Google search for reviews.

It HAS definitely become louder at WDW! I noticed this last month. We were standing in line to meet Mickey and Minnie at AK at the Adventurer's Outpost (or whatever it is called), and they had super loud music piped into the narrow hallway that is the waiting area. What is that all about?!

It was pretty much everywhere. We had to yell to hear each other. My daughter has hypersensitive hearing and was melting down every day. I was just online today looking for better earplugs. We use those smushy ones that are white or orange and you warm them up in your fingers and them smush them into the ear. They didn't work this trip and have worked for all of our other five trips.

Have you considered industrial ear plugs or ear muffs?

These are made for people who need hearing protection from dangerous sounds, so they work very well.

I think it should be adjusted to normal hearing ranges and those who cannot hear it at that level should us assisted hearing devices. The louder noise levels are damaging the hearing of younger people. I know many older people hate to admit they are becoming hard of hearing but they need to get over their denial and deal with it in a way that doesn't hurt the hearing of younger people.
I am hard of hearing and use captioning devices, assisted hearing devices and even my I-phone with an app for volume boost.

I think it's not just at WDW, but everywhere.. sounds, noises, talking, blaring out at you.

when you go to pump gas, there are now speakers screaming at you about the prices, what is available in the convenient store, etc. and VERY loud!

same thing in the grocery store aisles. there is both video and audio, someone blabbing at you the whoel time you are in line.

it's like an Orwellian society. with audios and videos surrounding us, telling us how we shoudl think, what we should buy, etc. etc.

So true about being around noise all the time! I need to get a set of earplugs for movies. I love action movies and they are SO loud. I end up spending the whole movie with my fingers holding my ears closed but I guess some people enjoy it.

IDK about the World getting louder but it's still a library compared to Universal. The level of constant noise and blaring volumes there boarders on inhumane.

I am happy you brought this up. I have very sensitive ears as well and wear ear plugs a lot in the parks, at the cinema, and other 'loud' places. We'll be sure to bring the best ear plugs we have on our upcoming trip to WDW. I have some plastic ear plugs for kids that work pretty well for small ears. Foam types hurt my ears too, but the ones used on industrial sites and airports are fantastic and come in different sizes. Custom ear plugs (with active noise cancellation) are the best, and can be adjusted for surrounding noise levels, but too expensive for us right now.

There are some quiet spots listed on the WDW website for people with cognitive disabilities. You can always go to first aid to use their rooms for a quiet place if needed.

I wonder if they have it turned up louder to discourage people making phone calls well in lines or in the meet and greets?

I honestly don't think it's that loud. Maybe it's because I have 4 boys? :confused3
Just make sure it isn't because you are getting a hearing loss. It isn't particularly loud for me but I am hard of hearing so the fact I can even hear it means it is quite loud.
