We here in Grand Rapids lost a hero today.

In the early morning hours of Sunday, July 8, a fellow officer (and friend of my DH and myself) was shot to death while on duty. I am a paramedic and I was working when this incident occurred and was actually on a call less than a half-mile away. I heard the gunfire that claimed the life of this brave young man.

I ask that you keep the family of Bobby "Koz" Kozminski as well as his fellow officers in your thoughts and prayers. My DH is a GR police officer and has to return to work tomorrow morning and he is not sure how he will react when this all "hits him". He was off duty this weekend. The police and public service community is a close-knit family and tragedies like this cut very deep and affect us to the core. Please keep us all in your prayers as we go through this very difficult time.

Here is link to the Officer Down Memorial Page. Please take a moment to read about Koz and the sacrifice he made.

I am from Kalamazoo. I just watched this story on the news. This is so very sad and my heart goes out to his family and little girl. I will pray for his family and his work family. Tomorrow will be a hard day for the officers returning. I hope your husband gets through the day alright.

I'm so, so sorry. Godspeed to Bobby.

My DH is also a cop and stuff like this is so frightening.

I would just like to say THANK YOU to all of the men and women who serve this country as police officers and firefighters and of course our military men and women too.

I appreciate what you do for us.

My prayers for everyone affected by this tragedy.

My prayers are with him & his family. My DH is also a police officer and it is never easy to hear about these tragedies.

So very sad. We will keep the officer's family and and all of the GR police officers and their families in our prayers. :grouphug:

Sending lots of prayers!!!

My DH is a police officer also. This is one of my worst fears.

Thank You for all of your support. :grouphug:

I just talked to my husband. He said that there is a growing display of flowers and cards at the Fallen Officers' Memorial at Police HQ. Even Bobby's 3-year old daughter came down and left a small bouquet of flowers for her daddy:sad:
Everyone here is stunned and at a loss for words. I told my husband today that I feel like I lost both a cousin and a brother-in-law. Because I am a paramedic, we work with the police, but not always directly. So in that regard, Koz was like a "cousin" to me. But, because he worked directly with my husband (same shift, same area, same team for 5 years!) he was like a brother-in-law. I was probably one of the only paramedics Koz knew by name. I know I will always remember him.

Thank you for your thoughts and your prayers as we continue to struggle through this painful ordeal.

I am so sorry to hear about this. My husband is a detective, and this is one of those things that you never think about, but it's always there in the back of your. My prayers are with your husband that he can get through this as well as the fallen officer's family.

I'm so sorry for your loss. Without people like you dh and Koz we would not live in the world we have. I appreciate the work your family does daily. My thoughts are with you all.

:sad2: Oh how sad! My DH is also a police officer and stories like this just remind you how dangerous their jobs really are even though you try not to think about it too much. Prayers going out for his poor little girl and his family and work family. He died a hero for sure. :sad1: God rest his soul.

This is terrible. My father in law was killed in the line of duty so I have a personal connection to this story. My children are growing up with out their grandfather it is difficult to explaing to a 2 and 5 year old where Daddy's dad is...in heaven. My thoughts and prayers are with the family.

I heard this on the news. Such a horrid tragedy. :sad1: His family is in my prayers.
