How much does it hurt the first time?

Going to the beach soon and am considering waxing for the first time!

It depends on how much hair you have.

I get my underarms waxed and have for years. It hurts for a few seconds but mine is "maintenance" so not very much.

It is going to hurt. But since I have been doing it so long my hair is much lighter (even when I let it go longer in the summer). So over time, the hair is lighter, doesn't grow back as quickly and is easier to maintain.

I love not having stubble and or shaving all the time!

Just got it done about an hour ago!

It was only my second time (first time was about a month ago). I LOVE it because I have pale skin and dark hair, so even after shaving you can still see a "shadow" and waxing eliminates that.

I don't find it very painful at all. I don't even flinch. Do you get other body parts waxed? I think compared to other parts, it doesn't hurt.

Yes, it will hurt. Ask and see if you can/should take an OTC pain med before your appt. (maybe some tylenol or ibuprophen). Also ask if you can put a local numbing gel or something on the area - like ambesol (for teething babies).

If you have access - ask someone for Emla spray or creme. My cousin used to work in a pediatric office, and she asked her rep for some spray. (it's what they spray/put on babies before they circumcise).

I do agree with pp - the more you do it, the less it hurts, and the lighter the hair comes in. It is lovely not to have prickly pits.

I think waxing underarms is MORE painful than a brazilian. Seriously.
I wax - but have only done my pits once - NO way do I want to do that again.

I find it to be a 3 on a pain scale of 1-10 - totally not bad and the results are great. BUT the key is to find a good waxer - a bad waxer HURTS!

First time will hurt. But it's reallllly quick and the pain will last just a second! I get mine done all the time. It becomes relatively painless after a few times.

Edit: Seriously, pain killers? Come on now. The pain only lasts a second.

For me, a Brazilian is FAR more painful than underarms. And the anticipation is much worse...my esthetician gives me a towel to hold because my hands sweat so bad from the anticipation! And a Brazilian takes longer--about half an hour or so...underarms take 2 minutes.

Yes I get other parts waxed.

I haven't done my underarms because I've heard it stays sore much longer.

The thing about waxing is, the more you have it done, the less hair grows back.

Seriously????? Brazilians are way more painful IMO. Pain scale for brazilian (1-10...10 being the worst) i'd give it a solid 10!!!!
Armpits, honestly a 2. I hardly flinched.

Nah. Brazilian really is a 3. Armpits are a 10. Legs are like a 5. Eyebrows a 1.

I've gone back to shaving my armpits (sorry if TMI.) Too much pain plus they stay red for a full day afterward. No thanks.

Really??? I find this shocking, cause I put brazilians right up there with child birth pain. Its bad!

I don't think it's that bad either! It's weird how differently people perceive pain.

I have found the sugar waxing to be easier than traditional hot wax.

Anyone try threading? OOOMMMG its painful. Maybe the lady who did it was too rough, but man i'll never do that again. My sis got threading done as well, and she said her lady was gentle. So i guess it depends on who you get.

I hated threading. Love the results but it does hurt!

Sugar waxing is done without strips. The wax never fully hardens.
