Or sugaring, to be more precise. Like many women of a certain age, I've found I have an excess amount of chin and lip hair, which has gotten to the point that I need to go to the salon about every two weeks just to keep it under control. This is getting expensive, as it runs about $25 plus tip for every visit. So I googled "at home hair removal" and found a simple mixture of sugar, lemon juice and water and decided to give it a try.
Now, being someone who has a difficult time inflicting pain on myself, I enlisted DH to do the actual ripping. He did a great job. The sugared areas look every bit as good at when I have it professionally done. I don't know if he'll be doing my eyebrows anytime soon, but I'll save about $70 per month by letting him do my lip and chin. :yay:

How does it work? I am trying to figure out how it would stick and to do a wax. I am fortunate the only place I am really shaving is my underarms.

I get sugared every 5 weeks in the warmer months and 6 in the colder months.

I found someone that does it out of her home and pay $25 for a Brazilian and eyebrows plus a $5 tip each time.
I find it entirely worth my money.

If you've found another solution that is great!
But if your DH ever gets tired of doing it I would suggest that you shop around because you can likely find a better price than the salon you were going to.

1 cup sugar
2 TBSP lemon juice
2 TBSP water
Small strips of cotton fabric

Heat mixture in a saucepan until the sugar is melted and the mixture begins to darken somewhat.
Allow to cool a bit (you don't want to put boiling sugar on your skin). It will thicken as it cools.
Using a small spatula or tongue blade (even the back of a teaspoon would work) apply the mixture to the area to be waxed. Then apply the fabric strip to the area and press firmly. Leave it on a few minutes and then rip against the direction the hair grows.

That's awesome! I've been researching it for a while now, but have yet to take the plunge and actually try it out.

Sally Hansen waxing kits work great too. Very cheap and easy to use and no burn risk.

I bought the sugar stuff in a kit a couple of times. I had just as good results with honey and a washcloth.

not how is it applied, but how does sugar work.....like hot wax? I have a hot wax kit, but I am kind of scared of it, it gets pretty messy

The sugar solution sticks to the hairs and the cloth strips so when you rip the strips off the hair comes with it. Just like with waxing. I didn't find it messy at all. And nothing to buy. I already had sugar and lemon juice. I cut up an old shirt to make the strips.

Do yourself a favor and get electrolysis for that. It's permanent. Takes several visits, but mine were about $25-30 per visit, and now I never have to go anymore, which is priceless.

Have you thought of trying to get your facial hairs removed with threading? Around here, it's less than half the price at Art of The Eyebrow. This chain salon is everywhere. It's quick and walk-ins welcome. Some complain of stinging pain but I only felt it when she does my top lip. It also lasts longer than waxing. less redness and irritation and you sit in a reclined chair not on a bed.

I've done threading. It was ok. But now that I've discovered just how good DH is at sugaring, I'm good. Except for my eyebrows-I'm not sure I can trust him to shape those lolo
