Wax seal on toilet... Ever replaced it? **UPDATE Post #24**

Okay, not to be Debbie Downer here, but if someone put ceramic tile over the original subfloor/flooring and tried to use the original flange and bolts, the bolts may be too short. Before you put things back together, make sure you've got long enough bolts...they sell ones for retrofits that are longer than normal. Just a thought!

Good luck, and keep us posted!
:thumbsup2 The wax seals came with new bolts and screws... pretty long ones actually.

Hoping it all works out!!!

If you do have a problem with the flange, my husband says to go to Lowes. They sell a replacement flange that inserts inside the old pipe. The one they have at Lowes was better than anything they had at Home Depot.

My husband used to be a pipefitter. He's also replaced a toilet or two. He says a worn wax ring would cause the leak and a broken flange would cause the toilet to move. Check the flange when taking the toilet off to see if it is broke... also check the floor beneath the ring to make sure it is solid! That might be a cause of the toilet moving. Good luck!

Just wanted to say thanks to all, and *whew* it was an easy, 10 minute fix!

So far, so good! :worship:

The old wax seal was definately compromised... but the flange was perfect, thankfully!

The toilet is NOW bolted down tight, it's not moving an inch! They had SO much wax on the bolts and screws, it was no wonder the toilet wouldn't stay put!
