Wave Runner Tour at CC

The wave runners on Castaway Cay were the highlight of my last cruise. It was a very rough seas kind of day and I still had fun. They said it's normally smooth as glass. No matter what the conditions, I'm planning on doing it again next time!
:jumping1:

My DH wants to do this on our next cruise and trying to talk me into going out with him. Is it escorted or do you get to go out where you want? If I remember correctly it's an hour but how much $$ ? Anyone else have any experiences?

It is an escorted eco tour. They take you out and away from the island to the mangroves and then a sandbar, stopping at each area to explain how they affect the islands.
We had heard that they don't let you open up and really run but after the 1st stop, one of the guides asked if there was anyone that wanted to try to keep up with him so 3 of us went at full throttle to the next stop. There is a second guide that is at the rear so no one gets left behind and they don't make anyone go any faster than they are comfortable going.

I've done this excursion twice. It is a blast! :cool1: It is an escorted tour that starts out with a trip around the docked ship (cool photo op!) After a brief stop for a discussion by the mangrove trees, you zip out to a sandbar (between Castaway Cay and Abaco.) If you take a morning tour, the sandbar is underwater. In the afternoon, it is dry. You get about 15 minutes to just hang out and enjoy the beautiful views of the blue-green water (again, great photo ops...bring your waterproof camera!) Your guide will give a little talk about the history of Castaway Cay, as well as the Bahama's. After that, you have some 'free time" with the waverunners. You can go as fast or as slowly as you like! And yes, you can bring children over 8. You must be 16 to drive and 18 to have a passenger. I think the cost is $95 for a single and $160 for a double. :sunny:

Happy Sailing! :teeth:

Last April, DH and 2 DSs (16 &18 at the time) were sched to do the parasailing on CC, but as it was too windy they were cancelled that day - and VERY dissappointed. :sad2: The waverunners had just started recently, and one of the CMs told the boys to try them - the boys had a blast - it was really the highlight of the trip! They still talk about them. :cool1:

We have our first DCL cruise coming up, and I was interested in the jetskis...My question is do they rent them out (by the hour, half hour, or etc) without having to take the eco tour? Or is the only way you can even ride on one is to go on the tour? If it is the only way on CC, then we will probably book it....
Does anyone know of ones to rent on any of the other Eastern stops, like St. Thomas, St. marten, etc, and how much it is? Thanks so much!

Unless they have changed it, the only way you can rent them is to go on the eco-tour. It lasted I think somewhere between 45-60 minutes.

Michelle2,

On Castaway Cay, you may only ride the waverunners as part of the "ecotour."

We've rented them on both St Maartin and St Thomas, as well. As I recall, it was a better deal at Orient Bay on St Maartin ($45 for thirty minutes.) At Sapphire Beach on St Thomas I think they were $60 for thirty minutes.

Happy Sailing!

IS THAT $160 FOR THE ADULT AND $160 FOR A CHILD?? OR IS $160 INCLUDE BOTH OF YOU?

It was $160 for adult AND child. Me, DH and DD's, 11 & 12, rode on 4/26 (total =$320.) VERY WINDY AND CHOPPY SEAS, but we're mariners, so we handled it well. It was The Best and the kids, at first a little nervous, were loving it. We saw quite a few sting rays and sea turtles, and my husband had something as wide as his wave runner quickly slip beneath his craft - he has no clue what it was! I also heard it was as smooth as glass most of the time. Remember, if you don't keep your finger on the throttle (with rough seas) You'll have a 6 foot swell crash over you, like I did! You've got to gun it and skim across the top of the water. Man, what a great time that was!!!

This is something Dh and I want to do also. Sounds cool! Do we book this ahead of time? :goodvibes

We booked via telephone. I think you're allowed to book it either 60 or 90 days in advance. It seems now you can book your excursions, etc. via the Disney Cruise Line website. When we booked, it was all filled up, but when we showed up to actually do it, a lot of people had backed out. If you don't get a reservation, I would go to the boat beach in the morning and let them know you are interested. You'll probably have to check back every so often to see if anyone has cancelled.

I have been trying to book this reservation for our 8/20 cruise. When I book on-line it shows it will cost $320 for two people. Can this possibly be right? I called Disney's shore excursion number and they confirmed. I sent them an email, but who knows when they'll get back to me. $320 for two people is outrageous!!!

WOW! :earseek: It's really gone up in price. Last year my 2 teen DSs rode for $90.00 or $95.00 each - can't remember which price.

The problem is that they are giving EACH of you a double wave runner, which would actually accommodate four people.

I went round and round and round with the good folks at DCL for a week and a half about this for the 8/20 repo cruise. It about drove me bananas. I finally spoke with a supervisor and finally made her see the light ... it does not make sense to only have doubles available, when you use the exact same bloody machine for a double or a single ... it took her the better part of 20 minutes to "fix" it in our reservation so that we have one double (for me and DD to ride) and one single (for DH). The double is costing $160 and the single is costing $95.

You'll need to call back DCL and be persistent ... you'll probably need to ask for a supervisor over the excursion department, and maybe, just maybe you will luck out and get someone who understands the problem.

You have been trying to book 2 (doubles) ($160.00 X 2= $320.00)

Do you want 2 (single riders) $95.00 X 2= $180.00
or just one double? ($160.00)

If you look on-line go to the site you will notice that there are two Excursions listed one for double. then under that you'll find one for singles

Do each of you want a PWC or do you want to share?
My DH is large so I wanted my own booked 2 singles for $ 190.00

Good Luck

So, all I need to do is book my husband? and he gets to take anybody with him? Maybe I'll try that. I assumed I needed to identify the two individuals who were going on the excursion. I'll keep trying. Thanks MAGICinMYHEART and ivanova for helping me out.
