Thank you so much for reporting back to us as I am contemplating between this and waterproof Panasonic Lumix.

Hi Disneyfalcon, thanks for posting the info so quickly. i like what i see. i'm a little surprised there is no retractable lens cover. we cruise the end of june but i want to get the camera early so i can get used to it. i'm primarily going to use the camera for underwater picture and video taking. does the camera take a long time to reset after using the flash? also, have you tried video underwater? would the buttons be easy to operate underwater?
sorry for all the questions.

No problem Ellen! Ask away!
I was suprised by the lens cover thing too. I don't know if that's normal or not. Maybe someone who has an Olympus could tell us if their's does.
I was glad to see that it takes some good pictures on land, but I definitely bought it primarily for underwater use. I have a camera for every day use that I love. I really wanted something that would take better pictures than the AWFUL ones the disposable one we used in January took. Not to mention with the ruggedness of it, I thought it would be good for the kids too.
I haven't tried the video underwater, but it looks great in my living room!
The controls are very easy to use. I don't think they'll be a problem above or below water.
The camera has a continuous shooting mode which is nice. I tried it with the flash on, and while it wasn't instantaneous, there were only 2 or 3 seconds between bursts.
disneyfalcon,
a couple of questions already. what does the camera come with. is the wrist strap floatable? i'm thinking that might be a good thing to invest in.

Thanks so much for the review!! The pictures are great!
I have studied the waterproof cameras so much and couldn't wait...I just ordered my Canon D10. I am actually happy that the lens does not retract. That was one of the big problems they were having with the Olympus cameras. Sand would get caught in the lens and cause problems as it opened and closed. The two big reasons I went with Canon are the picture quality and the fact that I can use an SD card. The XD card that you had to use with Olympus is what turned me off from them. From what I have read, everything else about them is wonderful.
I was and still am a bit concerned about the bulkiness of the D10, but figured it would work the best for what I need it for. I'll let you know!
Thanks again Disneyfalcon for the pictures and reviews. Oh, and I am with you on the Wii wrist straps....it is a must for us here, too!!

where did you order the D10 from?

. However, the camera doesn't have a floating wrist strap and thought I'd buy one for us to use for the cruise and give it to her when we return. Hi
I have been watching this thread with great interest. One thing though, can I ask what kind of battery this camera uses? I love my lithium ion in my fuji as I can just plug it in and leave the battery in place. We have just not found any NiMh batteries (rechargeable or not) that last as long as ith lithium one does.
TIA
Wanda
PS. would love to see a shot of it against your hand like you suggested maybe sideways and direct on?
PPS. That was a beautiful shot of the fence line...loved it.
A good friend of mine is letting us use her Olympus underwater camera during our cruise -- yes, she's a great friend and I adore her giving spirit. However, the camera doesn't have a floating wrist strap and thought I'd buy one for us to use for the cruise and give it to her when we return.
The Olympus one that I've found on Amazon has gotten some reviews where the camera did not float, but sank. Not good.
Any suggestions?
