Okay, I've been able to play with my D10 a little!
First off let me say that I haven't used a point and shoot in years so I'm still getting used to it. I'm not used to the shutter lag, or having to press the button halfway to lock in focus. I'm struggling with focus at times. Now this camera is probably exactly like every other point and shoot in those regards, I just haven't used them in so long, it's taking a little playing.
I didn't have much luck in auto mode, but it was focus issues, so probably my fault.
First impressions - It's a little fatter then I thought. I had read that it is bulbous, and that is an accurate description. It's rounded and the lens does not retract. So it won't easily fit in a pocket like some other slim models. That doesn't bother me, it still fits my needs. I can take a picture of the camera next to may hand if anyone wants to see it.
I am a little concerned that there is no lens cover and it doesn't retract. This might be normal too, I'm just concerned about scratching the glass.
I haven't had time to play with all the bells and whistles. I think the facial recognition thing will be great, once I get the focusing part down.
Now for some pics - It goes against every grain in my body to post something with no work done in photoshop at all - not even sharpening for web, but I knew that's what you would probably want to see.
I took it on a field trip this morning and took some outside pics. It was a cloudy, rainy, yucky day, so the colors of the sky are not overblown, that's what they were.
I also walked down to the water, but unfortunately I couldn't put the camera in deep enough to take a picture without wading out in the water and I was not dressed for that!

So these are shots on the beach:
Out of desperation for water pics, I filled up the tub. I took these in two modes. The above pics were taken in P mode with the ISO set at 100. There are also several scene modes including an underwater mode. Canon recommends the underwater mode for the ocean. There is also an aquarium setting which would have been more appropriate, but I totally forgot about that one. The underwater mode for the ocean is meant to subdue the blue tones of the photographs so I think that's why we have a funky color here:
Here's some underwater back in P mode:
If anyone would like to know more, or get me to try something, I'd be happy to! My cruise is in 15 days

) so I'll get some real ocean shots then. I'll be sure to post them when I get back.
