Can you wear water shoes on the rides?? I was planning to pack water shoes for the family, but if they are forbidden on the rides I wonder if it's worth the space in the suitcase ?

Most rides, yes. The big slides like Summit Plummet or Slush Gusher they make you take them off.

Watershoes are a good idea, IMO! I was only asked to take them off for the big slides, but was able to wear them on everything else with no problems. I was glad to have protection for my feet while walking around.

don't know if you have swam in them before, but if you have any weak swimmers be careful. My 3 yr old had to be rescued wearing them, was usually a good swimmer but I guess they weighed her down.

We've never been asked to remove our shoes for Crush n Gusher. Summit Plummet and Humunga Kowabunga are the only two that don't allow shoes, I think.

Are water shoes important to have? I generally don't like wearing water shoes, so I prefer to go barefoot. But, I'll buy/bring a pair if it sounds like i'll need them.

The consensus on the disboards is that you need them, so we bought them. It was a waste of money. The seating areas are all sand, so you we ended up with wet, sand filled water shoes rather quickly. We just took them off and we were fine. It was early June, so maybe the pavement is hotter later in the summer, but even then I would probably just wear flip flops.

Water shoes or not, you need to wear something on your feet. The water parks are huge, and you will be walking quite a bit. Aside from hot pavement, you could easily step on something and injure your feet, and some surfaces are also rough. The last thing you need on a Disney vacation is a foot injury.

I like to wear water shoes in the wave pool at TL for the grip, but that's about it. Flip flops are more comfortable to walk around in, imo. As far as protecting your feet from the nasties, the only time in my life I've ever had athlete's foot was during a trip in which the water shoes were only removed from my feet to ride the big slides. Since then I'm a bit more cavalier and fatalistic when it comes to foot protection at the waterparks.

I need them for the arch support now but I went barefoot for years at the water parks and it was not a problem. So I don't think they are absolutely necessary. They frequently make me take them off and hold them on the rides which is a bit of a pain. We do tend to go to the water parks for a few hours rather than a full day so that might make a difference.

I prefer to wear flip flops. Easier to slip on and off. I definitely like to wear something on the pavement and in the restrooms.

How about Keens? Are they too bulky to wear on the slides? I usually alternate between Keens and sneakers at the regular parks.

PP said Slushin Gusher, not Crushin Gusher. Slushin Gusher is the slightly smaller body slide that parallels Summit Plumet at BB, and you are required to remove your shoes.

Crushin Gusher is the water coaster at TL. :)

Yes, I know...I thought PP had it wrong LOL. I don't remember one called Slushin Gusher. Guess we need a waterpark visit on our next trip to refresh my memory...and fill me with mini-donuts mmmmm

We've walked (ran) on some really hot ground at TL where I wished I had had water shoes on. I specifically remember the bridge path being very hot.

Shortly after our last trip my DH ended up with a really nasty plantar wart. The only place he had walked around barefoot was at the waterparks.

We like flip flops/Crocs for walking around, but we don't like water shoes. They feel heavy on your feet when they get wet. If you wear water shoes other places and are comfortable in them, then maybe bring them. If you aren't used to them, I would just bring Crocs or flip flops.

I always go with water shoes. PP's have mentioned the hot pavement in the summer but I also find the non slip things on stairs and such to be very painful after awhile. Also, the bottom of the wave pool in TL is really rough and downright painful without shoes.

I always take them and even though they make me take them off on the body slides it's still totally worth it.

If they make them take off water shoes, do you just get to hold them as you go down the slide?
