We had a great crop of at least 12 large beautiful watermelons growing in different locations around the property. All have been stolen. They were removed very carefully from the vines, not a seed or rind was left behind. The other varieties of ripe melons are undisturbed. Whatever it is was has a thing for watermelon.
It's prob a raccoon or bear. Whatever it was is a hard worker to carry them such a long distance without dropping them. I'm just thankful they left me my honeydews.

That's awful!

I hope the culprit pays for it with bad gas or indigestion.

I think it was the two-legged variety.....the worst!

Your melons may have been sold at a roadside stand somewhere.

Oh no, how annoying, and disappointing!! I agree, I think it's a 2-legged thief.

What an uncomfortable feeling, knowing that all this time, someone's been eyeing your melons.

:smooth:

Don't look at me I only eye ones in my own backyard!

I would agree it's got to be the 2-legged variety, as the four legged tend to make a big mess every time one wanders thru by me.

It's really a mystery. We live in a very nice secluded neighborhood. The house next door just sold for 600! Creepy to think that someone could've been eyeing my melons;)
It is so frustrating after waiting all this time then first to see one patch one night go then another and so on. They had to step over the cantalopes mind you that were also ripe.
Don't worry Mark I know my melons would be safe with you:)

Oh Deb, so sad. I would think if it was an animal where would be some residue, rind, seeds or something. The fact that there is a lack of evidence, is even sadder.

That someone would enter someone else yard and take them all. They would have to know you have watermelons and where they are. Very sad it it was a 2-legged thief.

If you have bears in the area, I would lean more to the fact that they were the culprit. It might just be a mother bear an her cubs.

I've never seen a bear here. Once during the last drought a bear went for a swim in someones pool here. Maybe???

Lo-jac, LOL
That got me thinking. What if I turn the motion sensor lights on the garden and maybe set an alarm:P
