Hi everyone, getting in to the planning mode now, taking my grand-daughters for the first time (also first flight and first time away from mum) they will be 10 whilst we are in Disney.

What would you do about water, do you buy all bottled water or are your children's stomaches okay on tap water. The girls drink gallons of water prefering water to other drinks!!!

Obviously don't want to have two children with gasto problems, but equally bottled water is so expensive in the parks!!!

Advice please

Lynda

We buy our water from the supermarkets about $1 for a gallon then fill our bottles from that. The water at wdw has got better over the years but I still don't like the taste.

I think the water out of the taps is perfectly save to drink. You might not like the taste (to be honest I've not noticed any difference in taste between my tap water here and in Orlando), but it is OK to drink if you don't want to buy the bottled variety.

Regards

Rob

We've survived on the water from drinking fountains and taps on all our trips to Orlando since 1995 ;). DDs were 10 and 5 on our first visit and we have always refilled our water bottles from the fountains around the parks. I know there are many here who don't like the taste, but we don't have a problem with it.

I remember someone here pointing out that US legislation regarding drinking water is much stricter than in the UK, making virtually all hotel tap water safe to drink, especially in tourist areas such as Orlando.

Our DS also prefers water to most other drinks and he (along with me and DW) doesn't like the taste of the water 'straight from the tap'. You can buy a big bottle of mineral water fairly inexpesively from the supermarkets and carry it around in a flask or bottle with you - it is much cheaper than buying it bottled at the parks.

Richard. :)

The water is definitely safe to drink! I usually take a bottle with me so that I have one with me at all times but we do drink from the fountains - it tastes of chlorine but it is very cold!

It is only the taste that puts people off the water in general :)

The thing about "straight from the tap" water in Florida is that it isnt cold, no matter how long you leave the tap to run. If you decide to drink it then bottle some up and cool it in the fridge first. Personally, I cant take to the tap water and prefer to bulk buy bottles from the supermarket, but everyone has a different take on this....do whatever works for you! You can buy bottled water very cheaply outside the parks (only the French brands are expensive like Evian). I think I got a tray of 24 sport top 330cl bottles for around $5.

we stay in a villa which means we have access to a large fridge & freezer.

We buy bottled water from the super market in very large containers & decant it into smaller bottles for in the parks. we also freeze the bottom quarter of the water the night before.

once we've drunk the water we' ve brought in , we refill the bottles from the water fountains. We never bought water in the parks, bought other drinks though.

My kids had no problems from drinking the park water but they didn't like the taste. They stiill had to drink it though!!!!!!

We also bought a polystyrene (spell?) cooler from the supermarket . Every morning we filled it with ice & bottled drinks & kept it in the boot of the car. Its was wonderful to come out of the parks after a long day to a hot car but a cool drink.

I packed plastic beakers to go with the cooler.

If you visit the Disney water parks you can take the cooler in with you filled with drink and / or food. No alcohol or glass allowed in them.

We do the same Disney Owl, the luxury of a villa alllows you to freeze lots of freezer packs, take cool boxes etc. Having strollers (doesn't that just get you in the holiday mood!) means we have small cool boxes with numerous half frozen bottles in them all day long. We also started freezing those pouches, the name of which escapes me at the moment, which our kids love to drink. They're very cheap, a few dollars for 2 dozen, from places like Walmart etc.
