Water parks or MNSSHP?

My fiance and I are planning our honeymoon, and plan on spending about 7-8 days in Disney World. We'll most likely be going the second to last week of August 2019, around the 17-23ish. Do you think doing either of the water parks is worth it? Will they be crazy busy at this time? We've been to Disney together multiple times but never done the water parks. Is it worth adding an extra day to our vacation and spending a day at either TL or BB?

Alternatively, if there's a MNSSHP during our trip, do you think we should do that instead? Ideally I don't want to pay for both MNSSHP ticket and a water parks ticket, unless both are really worth it.

We really enjoyed MNSSHP. As PP said - the water parks will always be there. We don't always go around MNSSHP - so when we are there - we will go. Our kids love the parade and the fireworks.

Are you planning on purchasing park hoppers? If so, adding the "plus" option to get water park visits would be significantly cheaper than going to MNSSHP. If you are only getting base tickets, that's another story.

My inclination would be to recommend doing MNSSHP. The water parks are something we do if we want a day away from the parks. IMHO, they warrant a half-day at best and I don't think either BB or TL are worth adding a day of vacation and a ton of extra expense for.

If only able to do one, we'd choose water parks over MNSSHP, however we've been to many. If it's the only time you'll be at Disney for Halloween time, I guess I'd go with that, but otherwise I'd do the water parks.

I'm biased because I don't like water parks lol

BUT unless you plan on being during MNSSHP again soon, I would do that. Water parks are there year round.

Ohh good point! Yes, we've never done MNSSHP or the water parks. Probably won't be back in the parks for a few years after this honeymoon since FH will be going to dental school, but I'd say we'd obviously be way more likely to be back when the water parks are open versus being there for Halloween again.

Is there a way to link these experiences to a virtual registry? Then maybe someone could gift them to you and y’all could enjoy both on your honeymoon!!

They could just ask for Disney gift cards instead.

To me the water parks are nice, but not distinctly different enough from the rides I will find at my local amusement parks. They aren’t unique enough to take a day away from me going to Disney parks especially since the transportation to get there isn’t always the easiest.

On the other hand, I went to MNSSHP for the first time last August and absolutely loved it. The parade was so unique and hocus pocus is my favorite Halloween movie so a stage show with the Sanderson sisters was amazing. The fireworks show was also great. I would recommend MNSSHP to anyone even though I did have a bit of sticker shock when I first saw the price and added it up for our party of 4.

OP, you should pick whatever interests you more. I'm the opposite of the post above...it's not wrong, it's just different tastes. I'm biased because I love water parks and think MNSSHP and MVMCP are insanely overpriced...we'd never do one. In our opinion, for MNSSHP you're paying to be in a park that you can be in anyway with your regular ticket. Makes no sense to me whatsoever at the price they charge. The water parks are something you won't experience with your base ticket. If you enjoy water parks, then they're definitely worth the money.

I'd recommend MNSSHP! It's a fun and amazing event. You can dress up, I love the parade, it's at night, lines are shorter, the fireworks are great, and CANDY! You're allowed to enter MK at 4 p.m., then the day guests leave by 7 p.m., so the crowds are less than normal. Whichever you choose, enjoy and congrats!

Don't get me wrong. I love the party. But if it's water parks vs the party, the water parks are going to win. Every time.

If you love characters and you love parades and fireworks, well you're probably going to love the party. If not, well you're probably going to think it wasn't worth the money.

I should add that yes there is trick or treating. And it is nice. But you're not paying all that money to go trick or treating. And that isn't going to make or break your party. Yes the lines for several rides are short. But again, with other times that you can go for short ride lines, you're paying a lot of extra money if that is all you're doing. So that isn't really make or break either. There are some dance parties for the kids usually with characters. But these are for the kids.
I forgot there is a short villains show. But this isn't make or break either. What will make or break the party is your enjoyment of the parade and fireworks and the characters (especially if you have kids) It really does boil down to that.
Oh and don't schedule table service right in the middle of the party. Eat before hand and get right to where you wish to start the party because it can get crowded fast at the characters.

I’d pick the Halloween party over a water park any time.
Think about what you might like to do at they party.
We love the parades, fireworks, shows, trick or treating, rare characters, etc.... that are unique to the party.
If none of those things appeal to you, pick a waterpark.

I think the parties are awesome but I just don't think I could get in the Halloween spirit in August! In my opinion, a waterpark sounds way more refreshing in August than a fall themed party.
