Water Parks Opening Ceremony?

Back when I worked at Blizzard Beach on a College Program (spring 2002), most days they would have a small opening Ceremony. Of course this could of changed in the 4 years since then.

Every morning a Ski Captian would be picked from the families waiting at the turn styles before the park opens. This family would be then let in and givein a free locker/drink cup etc. and then led to their own reserved picnic/small pavilion area where they can put their items not left in the lockers. Then the ski captin would be sent up to the top of summit plumit.

Everyone else would start to be let in about 5-10mins to park opening, but the bridges over crosscountry creek woud be roped off (access to the shops and towel/locker rental would be opened).

At park opening time, the crowed of people at the bottom would do a count down to park opening and at zero the ski captin would go down the slide officaly opening the park.

That would be a lot of fun to watch...when we were there last May we were one of the 1st in line and nothing special happened. Everyone was asked a couple questions for a survey and then let in to go stand at the ropes until the opening time.

When I worked there this past fall they still do the Ski Captain ceremony.

At TL they pick a big Kahuna to start the waves at the wave pool. They get the same items the ski captain gets as well.

Wonder if they still do this now there is EMH? Anyone know how busy the water parks are the first hour of EMH? My DD is hoping to be chosen to open BB!!

Last Wednesday we arrived at Typhoon Lagoon about 7:40 and our youngest son was chosen as the "Big Kahuna" He got a medal, a refillable mug, towel rental for everyone, a locker, all the donuts he could eat, and would have gotten food for the day and Ice cream however we didn't stay through lunch time. We were given a tour of the park, and our son got to tell the lifeguards to get to work, etc. He also got to start the waves and "control" the intensity of the waves while we were there. The big Kahuna family also got a reserved spot on the beach at the wave pool with a table and umbrella. He thought it was terrific. We went to Blizzard Beach the following day but I don't know if they did the ski captain thing there or not.
