I know that we have gone from the waterparks to the big parks on a direct bus, so I imagine they go the other way as well. So you probably could take a break there mid-day.
Whether you would want to is a different story. By mid-day, the waterparks become very crowded, and the lines get very long. For maximum waterpark pleasure, I would recommend that you get there when the waterparks open, then leave when they get too crowded.
For a swim in the middle of the day, I would recommend skipping the waterparks entirely and just going back to your resort for a swim. Since I see you will be staying at AKL (my favorite!), this is a very good option. If you are staying for a long time, the waterparks become a better option; but in a visit if a week or less, you might skip the waterparks completely and still have very full days.
