Water Park newbie questions

Hi everybody,

I'm planning to spend a couple afternoons at Blizzard Beach at the end of September. I'll be there solo, and have never been to a Disney water park before. Actually I've barely been to *any* water park before, and definitely not in the last 20 years!

So I have total newbie questions:

* I'm planning to bring a waterproof pouch for my phone, car keys, and epi-pen. Can I bring that pouch with me on the lazy river? How about for the water slides?

* If I'd rather just leave my cell phone in the car, can I go on the water slides and stuff with my car keys, credit card, and epi-pen in the pocket of my board shorts?

* What are the chances of finding a locker available in the afternoon, during the week of September 27?

* If I'm walking around with my towel, and I go on a water slide, what do I do with my towel? Or do I have to find a chair to put my towel on while I'm on the slides?

* What else should I know as a person going solo to the water park?

:cool2: I'm probably overthinking things . . . but y'all are planners too, so hopefully you've overthought things too! Thanks in advance for any advice.

No you can't bring or wear anything metal and/or sharp on the slides or the lazy river. You can leave your towel and other non-important items on a chair. There should be plenty of lockers available.

Yeah, I would definitely just park your stuff at a chair and then go exploring from there. If you do need a locker, I have never seen them sell out before. It's possibly happened, but I doubt it! Have fun!

Thanks very much! I'll plan to grab a locker for my keys and stuff, and just throw my towel on a chair.

This is your best option however you are allowed to have a water proof pouch with you on the lazy river and some other attractions FYI. I have a younger brother who has to have his Epi-pen on him at all times. He has a water proof pouch that is lanyard style that he carries it in at the waterparks. We always take him to the first aide station first thing in the morning to take his insulin and diabetic supplies there and we also let them know he has an epi-pen and ask if there is any restrictions on him taking it in the water proof pouch. IIRC the only restrictions at the waterparks have been the bigger water slides such as the drop slides which he wouldn't go on anyway. He was able to carry the waterproof pouch on the large family water raft style slide every time.

So, if you are not comfortable having your epi-pen that far away from you, check with cast members when you get there but you should be able to take it in the waterproof pouch on some of the attractions. For the big slides, if you carry a towel with you, you may be able to find an empty chair nearby and place the pouch on it (recommend not doing this with valuable and car keys) and cover with the towel while you are doing the big slide and it should be waiting for you when you get off.

Thank you, this is very helpful! I do feel more comfortable if I can keep my epi-pen with me, so if I can take the pouch with me on the mellower attractions I might just stick to them.

Love BB. We rent a locker (only takes cash BTW) for phones, wallets, etc. Everything else you can leave on a chair. There are plenty of little areas scattered around the mountain where you can park your stuff - never had a problem with that. If you are staying on-property they will give you a towel - you don't need to bring one. You pick those up in the shack next to the lockers. Otherwise you can bring your own or rent a towel - don't know the cost. Bring a lunch if you can - food there is not great.

Keep in mind; BB closes when the thunderstorms roll in. That happens pretty much every afternoon. We lucked out and had a full day there, but we had planned on getting there early and leaving if (when) there was a thunderstorm.

Honestly I would contact Disney direct for answer, especially since you have an epi-pen. I have been going to the parks for many years, although not in the last few, and I have a water camera (metal) on a strap on my wrist I take on ALL the rides/slides except for the big plummet drops. If you have your items in a waterproof (plastic) bag I don't see the issue. The metal thing is in regards to your bathing suit so there are not metal rivets or zippers that scratch the slides.

I never carry my phone around but lock it up in locker with wallet and keys, I def don't trust leaving anything I'm not prepared to lose at the chair. So I leave towel, shirt, sun lotion and if I bring a cooler with drinks and food.

We have a KYSS bag, which I love! It has a small chain on the side with a combination lock that you can use to fasten the bag to a chair or umbrella, or some other fixture. The lock also goes through the zippers, so it prevents someone from unzipping your bag and/or walking away with it. Its a decent size and big enough to fit our phones, towels, books, credit card, etc. While I'm sure it's not totally theft-proof, its enough of a deterrent in a crowded place like a waterpark. Makes me feel better about leaving stuff at my chair for when lockers aren't available or they're far away.

You may even want to put your towel in your locker. We are big BB locker fans - they are pretty centrally located and easy to access, so we just put everything in there, including our towels, and head out to the slides.

If you need to carry your Epipen on you (bee allergy?), what I would suggest is sewing an o-ring into the lining of your suit, which you can hook your little valuables dry-pouch to. (You also need a small hook on the valuables pack, of course, but that is probably there already.) Easy to do, just like securely sewing on a button.

I always sew them in my family's suits because my DH and kids will not swim without goggles, so they need a place to put them when on water slides. I always wear sunglasses when walking around water parks, and it works for that, too. For we girls I put the ring inside the suit under the arm, where it's easy to get to, and also easy to clamp down on with your upper arm so that it's anchored when on slides. (Note that because of the slides, a more modest one-piece suit or tankini is probably your best option for a waterpark.) It can sometimes be a wee bit lumpy under the suit, but you'll never see any of those people again, so who cares?

We bury all of our stuff in the sand in a large baggie.

Thanks, this is great advice. I also bought a pair of board shorts/swim trunks to wear with a bikini top, so I've got pockets on the sides of my shorts. I can't see much without my glasses, so I'll be wearing my prescription sports goggles around the park and on the lazy river, but I guess I'll need to take them off for some slides.
