How old do you need to be to pilot the water mouse? How much is it? Do they have them at the Poly available for rent?

I know the age used to be 12. You could ride in one with an adult if you were under 12, however. We have not rented one in a few years so I do not know if the age limit is still 12. They do have them at the Polynesian but I can't remember how much they are.

Maybe someone else can confirm the age limit. My guess is that it's still the same.

Hi, we rented the watermice at the GF, but saw that they have a marina and watermice at the Poly too. I think alot of Disney hotels have marinas...at least all the MK deluxe ones do.
We were there in Oct. 2003 and the age limit was still 12, BUT I could have sworn I heard somewhere that the age limit has gone up to 16...But since we have not been there since Oct, I would double check on that. I just remember being disappointed because our son would have been able to drive his own on our next trip, but now I don't think he can.
These costs are not for sure, and are just from memory, but I think 30 minutes was like 22.50, and the hour was around 30. So doing the hour was almost as cheap as the half hour. There was also a family and captains plan that is a good deal if you have more than one driver of the boats. We liked taking 2 boats out at the same time (with a kid with each of us), and loved doing it whenever we were taking a break or had some free time. We had a blast with them!

Does anyone know how deep 7 Seas Lagoon is? Do they provide life jackets for those riding the water mice? I take it water mice are easy to drive and maneuver? Do they limit how far you can go? From the Polynesian, I'm just wondering what you can see while driving a water mouse (any resorts other than GF and Contemporary?) :boat:

Thanks!
Tink

It is about 10-16 feet deep. Yes, they provide life jackets.

They are very easy to drive. I believe you can go just about anywhere in the lagoon and bay lake.

You can see GF, Poly, MK, TTC, WL, Ft Wilderness, River Country and Discovery Island.

We just returned from the Poly. DD 16 wanted to drive one, which she had in past yrs, but we were told that she needed to have a valid drivers license to drive it herself. Sorry, don't know cost, but I know that they issue you life vests.

We rented one at the WL in July. When we called to check on them we were told the new name is SeaRacers.

To drive at WL the age requirement was 12 with a minimum height requirement also. Perhaps they have changed it since but this was the sign in place at the WL marina.

I believe it cost us about $30-35 for an hour. (This was plently of time because the seats are not padded but it was a whole lot of fun. One of the best parts was seeing MK and Epcot from the water. The entrance between the two water ways is hot and slow though.

One thing to keep in mind is to carefully observe the wake rules because we were told at the marina that there is no warnings. Any violation and the harbor patrol would pull you and no refunds. Just make sure you look at the map carefully so you remember the colors.

Hi, I am a travel agent and just recieved an e-mail from Disney saying that they require a valid drivers license for anyone driving a boat on the seven seas lagoon. You need to only be 12 to drive else where such as crescent lake by the Yacht and Beach club.:D

Just remembered another question - are there seat belts to prevent someone (around 6 years old) from falling out?

Thanks,
Tink

No, there are no seat belts. There is a clip the driver puts on their life jacket to kill the motor if it comes undone.

The seats are pretty deep so as long as you aren't whipping around doing tight turns they should be okay. However, the CM at the counter mentioned that children must stay seated as they can tip.

We didn't have any problems but then my son was 10 at the time.

How do you pay? Do you need to bring cash down with you, or can you charge it to your room? Also, is there usually a wait to use one?
Anyone know what the boundaries are for the Epcot resort area??

thanks,
katie

we just returned from the Boardwalk Inn Aug 3rd and when rented the water mice we could go all the way to MGM and then to the bridge that connects the Boardwalk area to the Beach Club:D

I can't remember where I copied this info from to give appropriate credit, but I have the following in my trip planning spreadsheet:
Boat Prices:
Sea Raycer: $22.53 (plus tax) per 1/2 hour; $28.16 (plus tax) per 45 min.; $30.98 (plus tax) per hour
Also note that annual pass holders get a 15% discount.

WE rented the boat that seats 4-6 and went all over from WL to the campground, to MK and Poly, Contemp, and Grand Floridian, and all around Discovery Island.

But how do you rent a boat at Epcot??

We stay every February/March at Vistana Resort. Is there any restriction on renting searacers/mice to off site guests? I would love to do this for a non-park day. Has anyone ever done this?
Thanks! ::MinnieMo

The guidelines for renting the water mice has changed at the Seven Seas Lagoon resorts. You have to have a valid driver's license to rent one and that person has to ride in the boat. The driver can be 12 or older but must ride with a license driver. You must have your license with you at the time of rental.

To drive alone you would have to have a license. The change was due to a very serious accident recently on Bay Lake.

They are easy to driver, harder to stop.

Drivers of canopy or pontoon boats must be 18 years of age. Drivers must provide ID with birth date in order to drive certain watercraft.

A child must be at least 12 years old and at least 5 feet tall to drive a WaterMouse™ alone. There is a maximum combined weight of 320 lbs permitted for a WaterMouse™, or 2 passengers. All drivers under the age of 18 MUST have a parent or legal guardian sign a release.

From Disneys website. YMMV ;-)
