Water in checked luggage?

Is this allowed, or does it have to be packed in carry-on? I read somewhere that some people just put a luggage tag on the case of water and that's ok as well? TIA!

We checked a sturdy water gallon on our trip in September for formula bottles.

How do you manage to get water in your carry if you are using Disney transportation from the airport? We are flying in the day of the cruise, and our luggage will be checked in when we check into our flight.

You would have to rent a car, private transportation or taxi to get to a store to buy the water. Dcl transportation doesn't stop.

I was wondering the same thing. My sister was gonna bring a case of water to the ship but was worried about being able to carry that and her bag and purse. I suggested putting luggage tag on it and when you give your bags to the porters, give them them the water. Hope I didn't give her bad advice?

DCL policy is that all beverages you take onboard must be in your carry on bags. Not checked.

There is a reason - checked luggage is not handled in the gentlest of manners. This is one of the holding spots on the Fantasy on embarkation day. Yes, things just get "tossed in the pile".

Officially it's against DCL's rules. They state that all beverages need be in carry ons. Do people slap a tag on and let a porter take it? Yes, they do but it's still against DCL's stated policy. Maybe this thread should be added to your post on the DCL FB page about folks smuggling booze since it's against the rules too. ;)

Yes that is bad advice. the porters will take it because they don't work for disney ( any thing for a buck) but Please do not do this. I had a whole suitcase wet because a case of water broke.

Thanks. I will tell her to just forget the water.

In case she asks, the water onboard (used for making ice, preparing food, in the shower) is processed the same as most bottled waters (reverse osmosis and filtered). It's fine to drink as is.

Wow! That is incredible! Yeah, definately would not want to check water!

Guess the rules are there for reasons that are not always apparent. :-)

You can put water in a rolling carry on so you don't actually have to "carry" it. The water onboard is fine for most people and they do also sell bottled water onboard if you don't want to carry on. Putting it in checked luggage or checking a case is not allowed for very good reasons.

If she does want the water, have her put it in a rolling bag. As long as she can lift it up onto (and off of) the conveyor belt at the security area it'll be OK.

She doesn't want the possibility of soaking her clothes, and she really doesn't want to soak other peoples' clothes, by checking it.

Also, I have read of reports where some beverages were "checked" and they spilled........the captain made the person responsible pay for the laundry / dry cleaning of the victims before the ship took off. That would be one expensive case of water. I've also read of can sodas exploding in a "checked" suit case.

What I would do: buy the water at home. Place it in its own "carry-on" size rolling suit case. "Check" the bag on the airplane, but do not put the DCL tags on it. Go to the luggage claim area and claim that suit case. Carry it onboard the ship.

Or.........bring a few empty water bottles and fill up w/ water on the ship as needed.
