Water heater is leaking, what new one should we buy?

Just to add, Rheem, Bradford White and
A. O. Smith make their own and almost all the other tank type brands available.

Mine is a Bradford White. I have always thought of Rheem as being an economy/contractors grade brand.

We just got a new one last month. We went to Home Depot and got the Rheem Performance Platinum. Best advice we got was to stick to the ones with the 12 year warranty instead of just 6. They have much better quality parts in them.

Our year old rheem water heater quit making hot water. Called a plumber in. The parts for the fix were covered under the rheem warranty. The price of installation was not. The parts were about $20. The installation price was almost the price of a new one. We went with a new one.

And our plumber said ours was not the only rheem hot water heater he had seen with the same issues. He recommended not buying another rheem. Sometimes the “warranty” isn’t worth very much.
